ELISE GARRETT DUCK

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Elise Garrett Duck, 85, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mignon Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Herron officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Duck died Aug. 23 at her residence. She was a member of Mignon Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Donald E. Duck of Sylacauga; one daughter-in-law, Mary Duck of Sylacauga; one granddaughter, Krista Underwood; one grandson-in-law, Zack Underwood; and four nieces, Brenda Brown, LaMerla Mizzell, Sue Treace and Martha Payton.

Pallbearers will be Skip Smithwick, Kirk Smithwick, Pete Cooper, Jimmy Hayes, Marvin Rochelle, Dan Payant, Jack Wallace and Carson Grier.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Mignon Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ROLAND GARRETT

BIRMINGHAM — Funeral service for Roland (Partner Doc) Garrett, 46, of 39th Terrance North, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Campbell Baptist Church in Alpine with the Rev. Richard Fair, the Rev. Richard Cochran, Bishop Charles Williams and Minister Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Garrett died Aug. 19 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham. He was a graduate of Talladega County Training School, was a member of St. Campbell Baptist Church, Local 559 Union in Birmingham and the Birmingham Housing Authority, where he received a 20-year pin from the county and a certificate of classes from the housing authority. He was a carpenter, plumber, county supervisor and lead man. He was a native of Talladega County.

He is survived by his friend, Jannie R. Mostella of Birmingham; his father, Leamon Garrett of Alpine; four brothers, Leamon Garrett of Talladega, Marcus Jerome Garrett, Jesse James Garrett and Willard Garrett; one sister, Brenda Joyce Garrett of Alpine; his grandmother, Piece O. Willis of Alpine; and a host of aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends Friday from noon until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The body may be viewed at the church from noon until service time.

Garrett's Funeral Home will direct the service.

JERRY LANE ISBELL

WATTSVILLE — Funeral service for Jerry Lane Isbell, 52, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Wattsville Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Ford, the Rev. Len Blanchard and the Rev. Herbert Owen Welbourne officiating. Burial will be in Broken Arrow Cemetery.

Mr. Isbell died Aug. 22 in Homewood. He was born Feb. 7, 1949, was a native and lifelong resident of Wattsville and was retired from Pell City Ready Mix after 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, David M. and Willie Ruth Isbell, and his twin brother, Terry Wayne Isbell.

He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Isbell of Wattsville; five daughters, Mary Rowe of Cook Springs, Tracey Crossley of Jasper, Cathy Murphy of Jackson, Tenn., Jeanie Barkey of Lincoln and Shirley McDaniel of Odenville; one son, Timothy Isbell of Anniston; seven sisters, Cathleen Thompson of Wattsville, Claudine Graham of Pell City, Joann Echols of Ragland, Linda McVey of Pell City, Joyce Gentry of Pell City, Barbara Alverson of Gadsden and Bonnie Blue of Pell City; one brother, Ronnie Isbell of Ashville; and eight grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Jason Isbell, Timothy Isbell, Kevin Isbell, Dale Blue, Steve Campbell, Earl Sims, Bobby Echols and Clyde Lee Echols.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

MARVA LOUISE JOHNSON-PLAYER

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Marva Louise Johnson-Player, 52, of 903 West College St., will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeremiah Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson-Player died Aug. 26 at Citizens BMC in Talladega. She was a member of Kingston Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham Johnson Sr. and Katie Swain Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra Evonne Johnson and Lisa Ann Johnson of Talladega; two sons, Kenneth E. Player and Marcus L. Player of Talladega; one sister, Bertha Mae Swain of Alpine; two brothers, Abraham Johnson Jr. and Freddie Johnson of Talladega; and six grandchildren.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

ELMER BENTON PRESTON

PELL CITY — Memorial service for Elmer Benton Preston, 78, will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Parker officiating.

Mr. Preston died Aug. 22.

He is survived by one sister, Mary P. Sullivan of Pell City.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

FRANCES DAY TIDWELL

CHILDERSBURG — Graveside service for Frances Day Tidwell, 81, was Saturday in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Beck officiating.

Mrs. Tidwell died Aug. 16 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Childersburg, a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class and was a past president of Childersburg Garden Club.

She is survived by two sons, Bill Tidwell and wife Jane of Birmingham and Dr. Jim Tidwell and wife Vicki of Frankfort, Ky.; one sister, Sally Pemberton of Tallassee; one brother, Willie Frank Day of Tallassee; and five grandchildren, Poppy Tidwell of Birmingham, Ivy Tidwell of Birmingham, Will Tidwell of Frankfort, Ky., Chandler Tidwell of Frankfort, Ky., and Patrick Tidwell of Frankfort, Ky.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel directed the service.

WILLIAM ALLEN WEAVER SR.

PELL CITY — Funeral service for William Allen Weaver Sr., 68, was Monday at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Bobby Parker officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Weaver died Aug. 18 at his residence. He was the first person to be born in the old Martin Hospital in Pell City, was a graduate of Oxford High School and was retired from the military with 28 years of service. During his time in the military, he served in the Navy, Army and the National Guard. He was a member of the VFW Post 107 of Leeds and the American Legion where he served as the Sergeant at Arms.

He is survived by one daughter, Selina Skelton of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Bill Weaver and wife Wanda of Pell City; two sisters, Judy Ayers and husband Melvin of Pell City and Nickie McKee and husband Charlie of Pell City; one brother, Jack (Butch) Weaver and wife Patsy of Pell City; his grandmother, Nora Cooper of Anderson, N.C.; his grandchildren, Jennifer Galvan, Johnathan Honeycutt, Jessica, Nathan, Bill Weaver and Jessie Walker; great-grandchildren, Adam Christian Galvan and Kaylie Breann Honeycutt; uncle, O.S. Cooper of Birmingham and George Pounds of Monrow, N.C., aunt, Frances McDuffie of Pedmont, S.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

JAMES H. BREWER

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for James H. (Jim) Brewer, 70, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jeff Rutledge and the Rev. Dwayne Quesenberry officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Brewer died Sept. 12 at his residence. A native of Talladega, he returned here to live when he retired after 22 years in the United States Navy. He served in the Korean War, Vietnam Conflict and supported the armed forces during the Desert Storm War. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot in 1993. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., commander of Post 4261 and District 4 multiple times and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a civil servant with more than 40 years of service to the country he loved. He loved God, family and country.

He is survived by his loving wife, Verline Brewer of Talladega; three daughters, Rachel Haynes of Talladega, Judy Martin and Joy Knight of Midwest City, Okla.; three sons, Thomas Brewer and Robert Brewer of Talladega and James Harvey Brewer Jr. of Copperas Cove, Texas; one sister, Bernice Miller of Lafayette, Ind.; two brothers, Ray Roberts of Houston, Texas, and Guy Brewer of Florida; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

military will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.

OSCAR SHELTON CAMPBELL

TALLADEGA — Graveside service for Oscar (Bill) Shelton Campbell, 87, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega with Paul Powers officiating.

Mr. Campbell died Sept. 11 at Talladega Health Care Center. A native of Taft, Tenn., he had lived in Talladega since 1972 and was a member of Talladega Church of Christ. He was a retired street department supervisor with the city of Talladega, was a veteran of World War II and a former member of the Exchange Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Katie White of Decatur; one stepdaughter, Neta Pearson of Lynchburg, Va.; and one sister, Sara Bennett of Huntsville.

The family will receive friends Thursday at noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Talladega Church of Christ.

Pallbearers will be Mitch Allen, Mark Allen, Scott Allen, Joshua Allen, George Allen and Cecil Parks.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

TOM CLARK

ASHLAND — Tom Clark, 99, died Sept. 11 at Clay County Hospital in Ashland.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Garrett's Funeral Home.
