Funeral services for Maybelle Haynes Bentley, 88, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Mac Butram and Terry Bentley officiating, with Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Berlin.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bentley died Monday, Aug. 2, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Cullman County to Ed and Eunice Vinson Haynes. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Richard Bentley; a son, John Delane Bentley; two daughters, Billie Jean Payne and Charlotte Nell Graham; and two sisters, Aileen Evans and Wynell Robertson.

Survivors include two sons, Bob (Eunice) Bentley and Ray (Teri) Bentley, both of Cullman; two daughters, Dorothy (Jack) Haddock of Madison and Joanne Abrams of Rome, Ga.; five sisters, Doris Smith of Cullman; Melba Summerville of Rome, Ga.; Ruth Pulco of St. Petersville, Fla.; Faye Handley of Grand Blanc, Mich.; and Marie Harbin of Anniston; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Oma Day

Funeral services for Oma Day, 89, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Mt. Joy Church, Tommy Graves and Horace Swann officiating, with Burial in Mt. Joy Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Day died Monday, Aug. 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 4, 1915, in Cullman County to Charlie Frank and Dessie Owens Freeman. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Basil Day Sr.; one son, Delmer Day; four grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Ray Day of Hanceville, Jimmy Day of Bremen and Basil Day Jr. of Cullman; two daughters, Dorothy Vincent of Hanceville and Joycie Fay Potter of Hammond, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today.

Timothy Lee Ledford

Funeral services for Timothy Lee Ledford, 37, of Cullman will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, J.W. Hicks and Dennis Shaw officiating, with Burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Vinemont.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ledford died Monday, Aug. 2, at his residence. He was born Dec. 13, 1966, in Orlando to David Ledford and Irene Pennell Campbell. He was a truck driver for Heartland Express.

Survivors include his father, David Ledford; his mother, Irene Campbell of Conro, Texas; his wife, Gina McNab Ledford of Cullman; one son, Zachary Ty Ledford of Cullman; one daughter, Jessica Morgan Ledford of Cullman; four brothers, Mark Ledford, Scott Ledford, Lewis Ledford and Kenny Ledford; and one sister, Hope Baxter.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Emogene Hitt Garrett

Funeral services for Emogene Hitt Garrett, 74, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Roselawn Chapel, the Rev. Lynn Hitt officiating, with Burial at Roselawn Cemetery.

Roselawn Funeral Home-Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Garrett died Monday, Aug. 2, at Woodland Medical Center in Cullman. She was born July 25, 1930, in Alabama to Roy M. and Clister Bell Hitt. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church of Bessemer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lee Garrett.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Jean Garrett (Carl S.) Taylor of Upton, Ky.; two sons, Stephen David (Sande) Garrett of Hartselle and Dale Allen Garrett of Grant; four sisters; four brothers; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Claud Barnett

Funeral services for Claud Barnett, 84, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home, J.T. Larry officiating, with Burial in Mt. Grove Congregational Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnett died Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Hanceville Nursing Home.

Connie Sue Akers

Funeral services for Connie Sue Akers, 42, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Ozell Givens officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Akers died Tuesday, Aug. 3, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Laura 'Lorene' Bachmuth

Funeral services for Laura "Lorene' Bachmuth, 63, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Seventh Street Baptist Church on Alabama Highway 157, the Rev. Steve Britt and Dorothy Frady officiating, with Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bachmuth died Monday, Aug. 2, at her residence. She was born Oct. 10, 1940, to William Bartley and Mollie Florence Nobinger Rucks. She was the co-owner of Cullman Industries for more than 25 years and an active member of Seventh Street Baptist Church. She is going to be remembered for her friendship, generosity and faithfulness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Bachmuth; one sister, Louise Witt; and one brother, W. C. Rucks.

Survivors include one son, Vincent (Suzanne) Quick of Cullman; two daughters, Pam Bachmuth of Birmingham and Diane Bachmuth of Houston, Texas; two brothers, John Murl (Melba) Rucks and Billy (Shirley) Rucks, both of Hanceville; two sisters, Faye Rucks of Birmingham and Fifa Jo (Harold) Harris of Gardendale; and four grandchildren, Eric Quick, Alex Quick, Morgan Jones and Lindsey Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to J. Max Austin Jr. Professorship for Ovarian Cancer at UAB Gynecology, 1016 18th St. S., Birmingham, Ala. 35025, or to the Seventh Street Baptist Church "Building the House Fund."

Visitation was Thursday.

William Bertis Holmes

Funeral services for William Bertis Holmes, 93, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, James Wray officiating, with Burial in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holmes died Friday, Aug. 6, at Woodland Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1911, in Morgan County to Dayton and Julie Ray Holmes. He was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Verna Murphree Holmes.

Survivors include two daughters, Faynell Ward and Evelyn (Edward) Boike; one brother, Looney Holmes; one sister, Lorean Brown; three grandchildren, Berry Ward, Steven McDonald and Scott McDonald; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Ward, Tyler Ward and Caitlin McDonald.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nell Kelley

Graveside services for Nell Kelley, 77, of Texas will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Methodist Cemetery in Hulaco.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kelley died Wednesday, Aug. 4, in Texas. She was born Aug. 4, 1927, to Dewey Greene and Ethel Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Larry Kelley; one brother, Jack Greene; and one sister, Betty Harper.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus Clinton Kelley; two daughters, Charlotte Kelley and Sherry (Eddie) Green; one daughter-in-law, Deborah Kelley; two sisters, Dorothy Cox and Ceidell Greene; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday.

Lesley A. Lay

Graveside services for Lesley A. Lay, 91, of Crane Hill will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Livingston Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Lay died Saturday, Aug. 7, at Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge, Ga.

James C. Rodgers

Mr. Rodgers died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.

Mary Grace Cupp Self

Funeral services for Mary Grace Cupp Self, 81, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Tony Tidwell officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Self died Saturday, Aug. 7, at her residence. She was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Alabama to Asa C. and Essie Frances Dial Cupp. She was a beautician and housewife.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Curtis Self and Victor Marion (Connie) Self; three grandchildren, Mary-Beth Myers, Chris (Karen) Self and Trent Self; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary Christopher Myers, Sabrina Alyce Myers, Grace Belle Myers and Jackson Paul Self.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today.

J.C. West

Funeral services for J.C. West, 86, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Larry Pruitt officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. West died Saturday, Aug. 7, at his residence. He was born Sept. 12, 1917, to Willis and Dora Bell Pounds West. He was a retired field representative for Marshall Durbin Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leroy, Clarence, Sam and Charles; and two sisters, Louise Tomlin and Lovella White.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Alma Leipert West; one son, Jim (Rose) West; two brothers, Homer (Catherine) West and Donald (Juanita) West; four grandchildren, Jim (Donna) West II, Kim (Buddy) Johnson, Kelly (Bradley) Askew and Chris (Blakely) Seagroves; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today.

Helen Sims

Hilda 'Sue' Baker

Funeral services for Hilda "Sue" Baker, 63, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, David Stancil officiating, with Burial in South Cemetery in Blountsville.

Mrs. Baker died Tuesday, Aug. 10, in Hanceville. She was born in Blount County on March 1, 1941, to Tom and Mary Holcomb Green.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Billy Gene Baker.

Survivors include four sons, Eddie (Melissa) Stancil, Frankie (Teresa) Stancil, Tony (Patty) Stancil and Joe (Samantha) Baker, all of Hanceville; four granddaughters, Ashlee, Jessica and Desiree Stancil and Heather Brown; four grandsons, Tristian and Zachary Stancil, Iza and Jacob Baker; two brothers, Joe (June) Green and Tommy (Jill) Green, both of Hanceville; two sisters, Bonnie (Junior) Sams and Frances (Garvey) Bennifield, both of Hanceville; a sister-in-law, Sandra Green; a stepson, Wayne (Kathy) Baker of Cullman; a stepdaughter, Pam Baker of Cullman; and seven stepgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donald Webster Steele

Funeral services for Donald Webster Steele, 71, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, J.W. Hicks and Delwin Kilgo officiating, with Burial in Missionary Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Steele died Monday, Aug. 9, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born in Cullman County on Sept. 1, 1932, to John Gordon and Tennie Smith Steele. He was director of E.M.A. and a store owner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Timothy Barnett.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel (Ponder) Steele; four sons, Ricky (Connie) Steele, Greg (Sheree) Steele and Michael (Cindy) Steele, all of Cullman, and Ronnie (Merlene) Steele of Crane Hill; a daughter, Teresa (Alan) Barnett of Falkville; two brothers, Larry (Betty) Steele of Ocala, Fla. and Ray (Sherry) Steele of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Dean (Larry) Burkhalter of Inverness, Fla., 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Blount Hospitality House, 610 Madison St., Huntsville, Ala. 35801.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
