Funeral services for Christine D. Brock, 85, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Clyde Ledlow officiating, with Burial in Etha Cemetery.

Mrs. Brock died Saturday, July 24, at her residence. She was born May 18, 1919, in Georgia to Joseph Madison and Molly Estoria Davis Daniel. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Brock, and one son, Carl Brock.
Survivors include three sons, Sherman R. (Elizabeth) Brock of Madison, Bruce Michael (Cindy) Brock of Eva and Jay Byran Brock of Baileyton; two daughters, Peggy (Glenn) Burden of Baileyton and Sandra K. Brock of Oden Ridge; one sister, Amie Lee Cook of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
Levie Wilson Crumbley
Funeral services for Levie Wilson Crumbley, 85, of Cullman will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Albert Dean Estes officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Mr. Crumbley died Friday, July 23, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1919, in Georgia to Virgil Herman and Curtiss Savanna Smith Crumbley. He served in the Army and was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Jo Crumbley; two brothers, Sam Crumbley and Tom Crumbley; and two sisters, Lucille Dover and Ruthie Posey.
Survivors include one son, Marlin (Pam) Crumbley of Cullman; one daughter, Carolyn (Jackie) Payne of Cullman; two brothers, Ray Crumbley of Cullman and Harold Crumbley of Atlanta; two grandsons, Clint Jordan Crumbley and Jason Wayne Payne, both of Cullman; one granddaughter, Anita Brannan of Hanceville; and one great-granddaughter, Rhianna Youmans of Hanceville.
Visitation was Saturday.
Joel E. Pesnell
Funeral services for Joel E. Pesnell, 85, of Clearwater, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Richard Saylor officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Mr. Pesnell died Thursday, July 22, at his residence. He was born May 19, 1919, in Baileyton to Joel Arrister and Athia Putnam Pesnell. He was retired from aerospace work with the missile guidance system. He also owned a trucking company and worked for Honeywell. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the Honeywell "Minirig" retirees. He enjoyed gardening, making things work and helping his family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Geneva Godfrey Pesnell of Clearwater; one son, James Allen (Paula) Pesnell of Springfield, Va.; one aunt, Feddie Sue Pesnell of Eva; one uncle, Odie (Molly) Pesnell of Mobile; one sister-in-law, Kathryn F. Foster of Moody; and one cousin, Montez McClung of Eva.
Donald L. Nicholson
Donald L. Nicholson, 55, of Cullman, formerly of Carbon Hill, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 26, at the Kilgore-Green Chapel with Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Fayette County. The Rev. Dudley Brock will officiate and Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper is directing. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Willie Mae Nicholson; and four brothers, Billy Joe, Bobby Joe Wayne and Gary Nicholson.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia W. Nicholson of Cullman; son, Paul M. Nicholson and his wife Jessica of Cullman; daughter, Vicki L. Nicholson of Cullman, and son, Darren Nicholson; granddaughter, Heather L. Kitchens of Cullman; brothers, James P. Nicholson and his wife Annette of Adamsville, Charles R. Nicholson of Huntsville, Harry E. Nicholson and his wife Molly of Demopolis, and Jimmy and his wife Glenda of Inman, South Carolina; nieces; nephews; and friends.
Pallbearers will be Toby Kitchens, Wayne Nicholson, James Chavis, Deon Nicholson, Tommie Tidwell and Rich Jesse. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Nicholas, Jerry Gilbreath, Dr. Chris LaGanke, Dr. James Lee, Dr. Scott Warner, Dr. Charles Lovelady and the CRMC staff.
Herman Cecil Davis
Funeral services for Herman Cecil Davis, 84, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Brother Delbert Freeman and Brother Larry Nails officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Mr. Davis died Sunday, July 25, at his residence. He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Alabama to the late Northern and Hopy (Johnston) Davis.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida B. Davis; a stepson, Frank Davis; brothers Grover, Ethridge, Les and K.B. Davis; and sisters Bessie Helms, Flossie Thrasher and Mae Bolzle.
Survivors include a sister, Mozelle "Sally" Dison of Attalla; a sister-in-law, Sada Oria Davis of Cullman; a stepdaughter-in-law, Dalphine Davis; a stepgrandson, Ronnie Davis; two stepgrandaughters, Patsy (MIke) Kelsoe and Janet (Mitch) Hestla; seven great-stepchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Herschel Asber Doss
On July 22, 2004, Herschel Asber Doss passed away at his farm, which was part of first land patent issued by the United States (1820) in present day Cullman County and where he had resided since 1943. Doss was a great-great-great-great-grandson of Daniel Speegle, who was appointed as one of seven commissioners to locate and organize a county seat for the newly created Hancock County, Alabama (name changed to Winston County in 1858 for area that included today's western half of Cullman County). Daniel Speegle came to Alabama about 1820 from Lincoln County, North Carolina settling in the current day Brushy Creek/Trimble area. Speegle has hundreds of descendants in Alabama and other sections of the nation.
On Jan. 20, 1912, Doss was born to his parents, Jeneral Mack Doss and Wella Knight Doss, their fourth of 10 children, at Loretta (Valley Springs) in Cullman County. A prominent farmer, Doss served for more than two decades as trustee of Good Hope Junior High (now Good Hope High School) and for many years as a deacon and trustee of the Good Hope Baptist Church. He served on the Good Hope Town Council until he was 80 years old.
For several years toward the end of his working life, Doss was employed by the United States Dept. of Agriculture.
He registered to vote at 21 and was an active Democrat throughout his life.
Doss was preceded in death by his wife of more than 63 years, Dorothy Pauline Blalock Doss, who was the great-granddaughter of Cullman County's first probate judge, Thaddeus McMinn. Doss is survived by two sons, Chriss H. (Harriet) Doss of Birmingham, Jack M. (Glenda) Doss of Good Hope; two daughters, Peggy Jean Doss of Good Hope and Patsy Pauline Doss (Mal) Patterson of Hartselle; six grandsons; four granddaughters; five great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters.
Doss is survived by four siblings, Margaret D. Trimble of Woodland Nursing Home in Cullman, Kenneth G. Doss of Athens, Ala., Freda D. Livingston of Cullman, Robert Dale Doss of Mobile; a great number of nephews, nieces and cousins; and a great host of friends.
Mr. Doss' family wishes to thank his dedicated caregiver, Melba Robinson.
Visitation will be at Moss-Service Funeral Home on Monday, July 26, 2004, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral will be Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Good Hope Baptist Church where Doss has been a member for more than 70 years, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral.
Dr. Ralph Andrews and the Rev. Kenneth Hester will officiate and Moss-Service Funeral Home will be in charge. Pallbearers (grandsons and grandsons-in-law) will be William Doss, Reuben Doss, Morrow Doss, Logan Doss, Kelly Patterson, Mac Patterson, Gaylon Tidwell, Robbert Tindal, Andy Irvine and Paul Cannon, Jr.

Phyllis Louise Partain
Funeral services for Phyllis Louise Partain, 56, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Randy Sellers and Jack Nelson officiating, with Burial in Welti Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Partain died Monday, July 26, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 9, 1948, in Cullman County. She was a teacher's aide for Cullman County Child Development Center.
Survivors include her husband, Milford Partain of Cullman; her parents, William S. Beason and Thellene Bailey Beason; three sons, James Rodney (Anita) Partain of Vinemont, John Paul Partain and Christopher Michael Partain, both of Cullman; a brother, Tommy (Wanda) Beason of Gardendale; a sister, Glenda Henderson of Cullman; and three grandchildren, Arial Partain, Doyal Wayne Partain and Corie LeighAnn Partain.

Sara Wooten Forrester
Graveside services for Sara Wooten Forrester, 59, of Cullman, formerly of Birmingham, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Wootens Chapel in Cahaba Heights.

Evelyn Marie South
Evelyn Marie South of Decatur was born in Morgan County, the daughter of the late Robert and Lula Lee South. Ms. South was a member of Central United Methodist Church, having served on various committees including the Administrative Board, President of UMW, leader of the Agape Circle, and substitute teacher of the Builders Sunday School Class.
She graduated from Florence State Teachers College with a B.S. degree in education, a master's degree in administration and supervision from George Peabody College for Teachers, and post-graduate work from the University of Alabama. SHe was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, AEA and MCRTA.
She was a retired educator, having worked in both public and private schools. Many of these years were spent in Laboratory schools of George Peabody College in Nashville, and at Ball State University of Indiana where she was training teachers. Many summers were given to teacher training at the University of Arkansas, the University of Montevallo and Florence State Teachers College. She also taught education classes at Athens College. Her last 16 years of work was as principal at Eastwood Elementary School in Decatur.
She considered among her most formative years in education those spent teaching in the Fairview Public School of Cullman County, under the strong but gentle leadership of L.W. Yates, where they were a model of innovative teaching of that day.
A very happy conclusion to all of these varied experiences was the last 16 years as principal of Eastwood Elementary School, which was genuinely supported by the parents, community and a small staff as dedicated to the love of teaching as she.
Ms. South is survived by three sisters, Amy Blair of Decatur, Francis Goodwin of Florence and Gertrude Hinds of Cullman; a brother, Clyde South of Addison; a brother-in-law, Luther Hinds of Cullman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services wil be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur, the Revs. Hal Nobel and Mitchell Williams officiating, with Burial in City Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will be Russ Walrand, James Lockhart, Bill King, Ben Masterson, George Hall and Ralph Huff.

Joseph Wiley Johnson Sr.
Joseph Wiley Johnson Sr., 62, of Flintstone, Ga., passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004. He had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life and was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and had owned and operated TAG Truck Sales for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Johnson of Flintstone, Ga.; two sons, Joseph Wiley Johnson Jr. and George Thurlon Johnson, both of Cullman; a brother, James "Jimmy" Johnson of Cullman; two sisters, Martisha Stanfield of Red Bank, Tenn., and April Wyatt of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Chad and Jared Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Brent, Trent and Kelsey Johnson; special friend Barbara; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. EST, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Sprayberry officiating. The family will begin receiving friends after 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Armstrong died Sunday, July 25, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Morgan County to J.R. Frank Hogan and Sarah Elizabeth Chenault Hogan. She attended Pleasant View Holy Church of Christ and in later years Macedonia Baptist Church.
The family would like to recognize Zora Orr and Susie Williams, two people that were really close to Mom and helped her every day, and a host of friends and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F.M. "Melvin" Armstrong; and her parents.

Wilma White
Wilma White, beloved wife of Rodney White of Boca Raton, Fla.; daughter-in-law of Max and Marian White; sister-in-law of Susan Jones; and aunt of Christopher Jones, all of Cullman, passed away peacefully in her Florida home on Thursday, July 15, 2004, with her family by her side. She donated her eyes to help others.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. July 30, 2004, at Rocky River, Ohio, Presbyterian Church.

E.C. McGinnis

Mr. McGinnis died Wednesday, July 28, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Cullman County to L.B. and Janie Gorham McGinnis. He was a farmer and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include one brother, A.W. (Edna) McGinnis of Holly Pond; and four sisters, Maxine (John) Clingingsmith of Holly Pond; Ann (Van) Drake and Clois McAnear, both of Cullman; and Myrtle Goodhue of Clarehue, Okla.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
