Mrs. Rhoads died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born March 21, 1909, to Albert A. and Margaret Ann Hanley Carpenter. She was a nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Glen (Nita) Rhoads and Jerry Rhoads; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He died May 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 31, 1935, the son of Dr. Charles and Christine Teichmiller Gross. He was a machinist at Parker Haniffin.
He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He graduated from Cullman High School in 1954 and from St. Bernard College in 1972. He retired from Parker Haniffin in October 2003 after 29 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Irene T. Gross of Cullman; a son, Michael Gross of Cullman; a daughter, Lisa (Don) Bates of Madison; three brothers, Tom (Bonny) Gross, Buford (Jane) Gross and Perry (Teresa) Gross; five sisters, Catherine (Dusty) Miller, Rachel (Theodore) Schafer, Imogene (Raymond) Heatherly, Christine (Mike) Livingston and Barbara Harper; three grandchildren, Trey Bates, Gage Bates and Sidney Bates, all of Madison.
Visitation was Friday.

She died May 6 at Windsor House Nursing Home of Huntsville. She was born Feb. 9, 1925, the daughter of Ernest and Lillie Mae Tucker Chandler. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Roy Cupp.
Survivors include three sons, Steve (Barbara) Cupp, Mike (Susan) Cupp and Jeff (Melanie) Cupp, all of Cullman; four daughters, Linda (Dan) Dodson of Huntsville, Kay (Ben) Klugh of Little Rock, Ark., Pam McWilliams of Downingtown, Pa., and Cecille (Bobby) Cooper of Columbus, Ga.; a brother, D.W. "Sonny" Chandler of Cullman; two sisters, Carolyn Murphree and Ann Smith, both of Cullman; nine grandchildren, Bryan Cupp, Brandy West, Rachel Dodson, Becky Dodson, Dustin Cooper, Brant Cooper, Tyler Cooper, Haley Cooper and Alesia Cupp; and a great-grandson, Chandler West.

Taylor Burton of Cullman; a stepson, William Skinner of Cullman; two daughters, DeDe Merrow of Glenrock, Wyo., and Jennifer Escarsega of Casper, Wyo.; two brothers, Wayne Burton of Vista, Calif., and Eddie Burton oif Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Diane Conley of Lovell, Wyo.; eight grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be delivered to Cullman Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday, May 15, pror to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Zeta Mae Alaniz; three sons, Henry Ricardo Alaniz, Arthur Lee Alaniz and Michael Anthony Alaniz; a daughter, Ethel James; four brothers, Fred, Ruben, Henry and David Araniz; four sisters, Irene, Alice, Gloria and Oralia Alaniz; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Reynolds died Tuesday, May 4 at Ivy Hill Health and Retirement. She was born June 26, 1914, in Cullman to Russell Jones and Savannah Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W.J. Reynolds; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Sybil (Keaton) Taylor of Alexandria, Va., Jane (Mack) Hankey of Cleveland, S.C. and Judy (Niles) Nordquist of Escondido, Calif.; a sister, Eileen Roper of Cullman; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bertie Lou Thomas

Mary Ethellene Almon
Funeral services for Mary Ethellene Almon, 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Bradley McDonald officiating, with Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Mrs. Almon died Sunday, May 9, at her residence. She was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Cullman to William N. and Arlevia Baker Barker. She was a teacher for Fairview School and the Cullman County School System. She attended Cullman College and Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina. She taught school for 28 years and four years at Mt. Holly in North Carolina. She taught a year at Hanceville and 23 years at Fairview. She was a a member of Unity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Jo Almon; and a sister, Lillie Mae Barker.
Survivors include a host of friends.
Visitation was Monday.
Bessie Mitchell Wright

Mrs. Wright went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9. She died at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born on Feb. 23, 1914, in Cullman to John H. and Adal Anderson Mitchell. She was a homemaker and a member of Brickyard Baptist Church for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Paul Karl Wright.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Harper of Holly Pond and James (Karyle) Harper of Gadsden; three grandchildren, James R. Harper Jr., Deanna Moody and Kem Eliopoulus; a brother, George Mitchell of Guntersville; three sisters, Betty Burden of Baileyton, Peggy Noles of Arab and Ann Talley of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Jean Mitchell; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Thomas died Monday, May 10, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Cullman County to Noah and Bertha Self Bryant. She was a homemaker. She and her husband, Hulen Thomas, were married on March 17, 1953, and just celebrated 51 years of marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Leola Franklin and Lorene Nunn.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Gary Thomas, Danny Thomas, David (Sandy) Thomas and Ricky (Sonya) Thomas; three daughters, Debbie (Ronnie) Bright, Kathy (Michael) Smith and Linda (Craig) Chapman; a brother, James "Mel" Bryant; two sisters, Johnnie McElroy and Sandra York; 14 grandchildren, Brandy (Jason) Glover, Jeff Shumate, Matthew Bright, Wes Smith, Wade Smith, Natasha Thomas, Nathan Thomas, Desiree Thomas, Miranda Edge, Matt Edge, Amber Thomas, Caleb Chapman, Lindsey Chapman and Haley Chapman; and two great-grandchildren, Katie Glover and Jacob Glover.
Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Ronnie Bright, Craig Chapman, Jason Glover, Michael Ryan and Lynn Shumate.
