Funeral services for John G. Oaks, 55, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. Jack Collins, Blanton Adair and Paul Hicks officiating, with Burial in Oak Level Cemetery.

Mr. Oaks died Monday, Jan. 12, at Oak Level Cemetery. He was born April 1, 1948. He was a car salesman for Bill Smith Pontiac. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by father, Ralph Gordon Oaks.
Survivors include his mother, Avis N. Oaks; two brothers, Ray (Joan) Oaks and Ed (Joanie) Oaks; four nieces; and one nephew.
Visitation was Tuesday.
Cecil Hubert Reid
Funeral services for Cecil Hubert Reid, 87, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Grad Tanner officiating, with Burial in Herring Cemetery.

Mr. Reid died Monday, Jan. 12, at his residence. He was born Sept. 1, 1916. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Dora Gray Reid; a brother, Silas Reid; two sisters, Katie Blackmon and Pearl Reid; and a granddaughter, Debbie Penn.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne B. Blackwood Reid; three daughters, Andryne (Rufus) Penn of Massey and Janice (Jerry) Laney and Sandra (Danny) Woodard, both of Cullman; a sister, Myrtle Parker of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Craig Laney, Eric Laney, Matthew Laney, Sherri Penn Edgil, Molly Woodard Yeager and Lisa Woodard; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Tuesday.
Hazel Harvel Mayfield
Funeral services for Hazel Harvel Mayfield, 90, of Hartselle will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Peck Funeral Home, Mark Mayfield and the Rev. Tony Moses officiating, with Burial in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Mayfield died Monday, Jan. 12, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Morgan County to John Benford and Nora Viola Moss Harvel. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny K. Mayfield; a granddaughter, Penny Mayfield; two great-grandsons, Tommy Craig Vest and Robert Bruce Mayfield; and her parents.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Mayfield Vest of Eva; four sons, John William Mayfield of Florence, Robert Earl Mayfield of Decatur, Jimmy Ray Mayfield and Roy Benford Mayfield, both of Hartselle; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Estelle Higdon of Hartselle.
Pallbearers will be six of her grandchildren.
Visitation was Tuesday.
Evelyn Nunn Moses
Funeral services for Evelyn Nunn Moses, 78, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Fairview Baptist Church, David Chambers and Norman Dye officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Moses died Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Oct. 9, 1925 in Cullman to Ben and Leana Bailey Nunn. She was a parts clerk for an automobile dealership. She was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Talmadge, Garless, Paul, Afton and Lowell "Bobo" Nunn; and three sisters, Nep Self, Mozell Golden and Opal Chambers.
Survivors include her husband, J.M. Moses of Cullman; and two sisters, Luenett Gorham of Baileyton and Vonda Lee Huffstutler of Oneonta.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Graveside services for Ray Keith Wooding, 58, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Arkadelphia Cemetery.

Mr. Wooding died Wednesday, Jan. 14 at his residence. He was born Aug. 8, 1945 in Illinois. He was a lab technician for Compressor Industries. He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Wooding; a brother, Randy Wooding; and a sister, Ann Johnson.
There will be no visitation or viewing.
Wilma Burleson
Graveside services for Wilma Burleson, 83, of Hartselle will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Hartselle City Cemetery, the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating.

Mrs. Burleson died Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Morgan County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Estes and Audrey Mae Entrekin Lockhart; and her two husbands, George Hutson and Hulbert Burleson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Jane (Jerry) White of Hartselle; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Jay) Conway of Cullman; two great-grandsons, Clay Conway and Drew Conway, both of Cullman; three brothers, James Lockhart of Decatur, John Lockhart and Norman Lockhart, both of Hartselle; and extended family members, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Starkey and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Brenner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Roger D. Pate
Funeral services for Roger D. Pate, 57, of Tuscaloosa will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Fairview First Baptist Church in Cullman County, the Rev. Jim Abbott officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Pate died Tuesday, Jan. 13 at his residence. He was born July 8, 1946 in Alabama. He was a warrant officer in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Pate.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy J. Pate of Tuscaloosa; two sons, William "Billy" Pate of Arab and Dale Pate of Birmingham; a daughter, Lisa Diane Barrett of Arab; his mother, Iris England of Falkville; his sister, Nell Duquette of Falkville; a half-sister, Claudia Brown of Battle Creek, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
John Harold Speegle
Funeral services for John Harold Speegle, 89, of Birmingham will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood, with Burial in Hayden Community Cemetery.

Mr. Speegle died Monday, Jan. 12. He was a member of West Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from A & A Ash as a clock and watch repairman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvyn Mae Speegle; his parents, John Wesley and Della Jane Cofer Speegle; three brothers, Clyde Speegle and Quinton Speegle and Rayburn Speegle.
Survivors include two sons, J. Alan (Bess) Speegle and Wayne M. (Donna) Speegle; a daughter, Cleo Speegle (Mike) Lackey; three grandsons, Chad Speegle, Cris (Lisa) Speegle and John Paul Speegle; two granddaughters, Lisa Speegle (Wilson) Whittington and Laurie Speegle; a great-granddaughter, Hayden Speegle; and two sisters, Imogene Lit of Carbondale, Ill. and Pauline Murray of Oneonta.

Margarite Martin Miller
Funeral services for Margarite Martin Miller, 81, of Buena Vista, Va. will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Rick Ramsey officiating, with Burial in the Green Hill Mausoleum.

Mrs. Miller died Wednesday, Jan. 14 at her residence. She was born May 7, 1922 in Buena Vista to Isaiah B. and Virginia Hall Martin. She attended the Evangelical Methodist Church in Buena Vista.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Miller; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Thomas L. Miller Sr.; a son, Thomas L. Miller Jr.; a daughter, Sharon (Sidney) Leathers of Cullman; a daughter-in-law, Kathy M. (Royal) Sausley of Waynesboro, Va.; a special niece, Sue Bradley of Amherst, Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Buena Vista, Va. Rescue Squad.

Jean Jefferies Sornsin
A rosary for Jean Jefferies Sornsin, 76, of Cullman, formerly of Fargo, N.D., will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Fr. Kevin McGrath officiating. Funeral services will be in Fargo.

Mrs. Sornsin died Thursday, Jan. 15, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Dickinson, N.D. on July 21, 1927, to William and Claire Hemmer Jefferies. She married Earl W. Sornsin on Nov. 27, 1948. They lived in Fargo and traveled extensively before retiring to Alabama in 1989. She worked at the Cullman K-Mart Store for the past nine years. She and her husband are members of Sacred Heart Parish.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jane Stevenson; and four brothers, Bill Jr., Don, Jack and Jim Jefferies.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Earl Sornsin of Cullman; eight children, James (Karol) Sornsin of Cullman; Jeanette Sornsin of Huntsville; Peg (Paul) Smith of Minnetonka, Minn.; Patt (Chuck Parker) Sornsin of Kailua, Hawaii; Jeffery (Nancy) Sornsin, Dan Sornsin and Chuck Sornsin, all of Fargo, N.D., and Beth Sornsin of Goleta, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Michael, Jared, Ashley, Kristen, Jora and Joe.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Lizzie Maybelle Champion

Mrs. Champion died Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born March 23, 1914, in Morgan County to John and Susie Black Plunkett. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Holy Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three sons, James Champion of Cullman, Marshall Champion of Hartselle and W.C. Champion of Falkville; two daughters, Linda Gail Kyle of Cullman and Dollie Ann Champion of Falkville; two brothers, Martin Plunkett of Priceville and Ranzie Plunkett of Holly Pond; 32 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Brookover, Don Green, Pedro Mandez, Wayne Hill, Leon Suggs and Andrew Suggs.
Visitation was Thursday.
Pansy Estelle Jones
Graveside services for Pansy Estelle Jones, 84, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Hopewell Cemetery, the Rev. Doug Pitts officiating.

Mrs. Jones died Friday, Jan. 16, in Hanceville. She was born in Hanceville on April 17, 1919, to Alvin Lemuel and Susan Camp Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Luther Jones, Aquilla Jones and Charlie Jones; and a sister, Nettie Jones.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth G. (Hazel) Jones of Blountsville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
