Edward Canady Jr.

Funeral services for Edward Canady Jr., 72, of Arizona will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Dr. Bill Wolfe officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Canady died Saturday, Jan. 3, at his sister's home in Gardendale. He was born Sept. 8, 1931, to Edward and Ester Ingram Canady. He served in the U.S. Air Force from November 1951 to December 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one brother, Foster (Judy) Canady of Cullman, and two sisters, Helen (Ralph) Fine of Gardendale and Estelle (Bill) Green of Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice, c/o Odyesey Healthcare of Birmingham, 2100 B South Bridge Parkway #250, Birmingham, Ala. 35209.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

James Michael 'Mike' Eller

Funeral services for James Michael "Mike" Eller, 53, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, John Edward Hunt and Billy Wooten officiating, with Burial in Bethlehem Cemetery in Douglas.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eller died Friday, Jan. 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1950, to James Clovis and Jesse Marie Murray Eller. He was a nursing home consultant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Ollie and Bernice Murray.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Marie Hopkins Eller; one son, James Christopher Eller; one stepson, Cory Edward Walden; two daughters, Lisa Marie Tarvin and Angela Michelle Reeves; one stepdaughter, Jamie Nicole Cottingham; two brothers, Anthony E. Eller and Jodie Eller; one sister, Brenda J. McGriff; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Ehlman, Jamie Ehlman, Hal Chaney, Mark Baldwin, David Butler and James Roden.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kathryn Jeanette Putman

Funeral services for Kathryn Jeanette Putman, 68, of Blountsville, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, with Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Blountsville.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Putman died Saturday, Jan. 3, at her residence. She was born in Hanceville to Roy Mac Henry and Ada E. Milligan Isbell. She was a retired licensed practical nurse for Woodland Hospital. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bruce Putman; a son, Michael David Putman; a sister, June Little; and her parents.

Survivors include a son, Randy Putman of Blountsville; a daughter, Vicky (Sherrell) Smith of Blountsville; three brothers, Roy Isbell of Tuscaloosa, Paul Isbell of Selville and Ricky Isbell; two sisters, Mary "Sissy" Hood of Selville and Connie Calvert of Trafford; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Katie Mae Sears

Funeral services for Katie Mae Sears, 94, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Simcoe United Methodist Church, Tony Thomas officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sears died Sunday, Jan. 4 at her residence. She was born June 27, 1909 in Woodland. She was a homemaker and a member of Simcoe United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Nora White Greene; her husband, Will Mack Sears; a son, David Sears; two daughters-in-law, Vassie and Opal Sears; and three brothers.

Survivors include six sons, Donald A. Sears, Joe Shelly (Janet) Sears and Blaine Sears, all of Baileyton, Johnny (Annette) Sears and Burland Sears, both of Simcoe, William Arthur (Mellie) Sears of Gardendale; a daughter, Mary Lynn Sears of Cullman; a special child, Judy Knight of Vinemont; a sister, Dorris Wilson of Weaver; and 33 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Herbert Aubrey Calloway

Funeral services for Herbert Aubrey Calloway, 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, with a Masonic graveside service at Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Calloway died Monday, Jan. 5 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alabama on Dec. 12, 1921 to Robert Clarence and Eva Mae Crutchfield Calloway. He was a retired aircraft mechanic from Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. He was a military veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ottomese Griffin, Helen Bone, Magdelene England and Marguerette Hill; and three brothers, Raymond, Earl and J.W. Calloway.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Calloway; three sons, Herbert A. Dan (Darlene) Calloway Jr., Randy (Tess) Calloway and Sammy (Tina) Calloway; three sisters, Bobbie Schultz, Elizabeth Denson and Roberta Smith; four brothers, Chester, Lester, Clarence and Elwin Calloway; and three grandchildren, Robert Calloway, Emily Calloway and Kristin Erwin.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nancy Lucille Burden McGriff

Funeral services for Nancy Lucille Burden McGriff, 88, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Holly Pond Chapel, the Rev. Tommy Graves officiating, with Burial in Brooklyn Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McGriff died Monday, Jan. 5 at Huntsville Hospital Main. She was born Dec. 15, 1915 in Cullman County to Sam and Bernie Lowe Burden. She was a retired printer for the U.S. Government.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Homer McGriff.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy McGriff Johnson of Madison; and a sister, Willene Bailey of Brooklyn.

In lieu of flowers, make donations in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Nolia Geneva Hulsey

Funeral services for Nolia Geneva Hulsey, 85, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Simcoe Methodist Church, the Revs. Tony Thomas and George Canoles officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery. The body will lie in state a half an hour before services.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hulsey died Monday, Jan. 5 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born June 9, 1918 in Cullman County to William Everett and Roxie Lou Della Handrix Waldrop. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forrest D. Hulsey; a son, Steve Hulsey; and a daughter, Reba Carol Keith.

Survivors include a son, Delane (Jenny) Hulsey of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Simcoe Methodist Church building fund.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Geneva Nell Couch

Funeral services for Geneva Nell Couch, 73, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Larry Joe Stallings officiating, with Burial in Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery in Jones Chapel.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Couch died Sunday, Jan. 4 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born March 8, 1930 in Cullman County to Allen Oliver and Hattie Lee Payne Edge. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Eugene Couch.

Survivors include three sons, Larry (Ann) Couch of Cullman, Sammy (Sharron) Couch and Craig (Sandy) Couch, both of Flint, Mich.; a daughter, Betty Baldwin of Flushing, Mich.; a brother, Earnest "Nick" (Mary Nell) Edge of Cullman; a sister, Thelma "Toots" Chambers of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Edna Rosell Edge of Cullman; eight grandchildren, Tammy (Brian) Hill, Debra Bagwell and Scotty (Stephanie) Couch, all of Cullman, and Donna Davis, Brandon Davis, Rachel (Michael) Glasgow, Matthew Couch and McKensie Couch, all of Flint, Mich.; and six great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Jackson Hill, Tyler and Madie Bagwell, Cooper Couch and Chandler Davis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bessie F. White

Graveside services for Bessie F. White, 89, of Hanceville were Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Missionary Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Dr. Ralph Andrews officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. White died Friday, Jan. 2 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born April 21, 1914 in Cullman to David Franklin and Leola Lee Alvis. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Seventh Street Preservation or to Good Hope Baptist Church.

Grace Opal Pollard

Funeral services for Grace Opal Pollard, 88, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Billy Gamble officiating, with Burial in Enon Baptist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Pollard died Saturday, Jan. 3 at her residence. She was born March 3, 1915 in Carroll County, Ga. to Robert T. and Maude Ellen White Pollard. She was a nurse in the U.S. Navy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two brothers, Arvin H. (Martha) Pollard of Luthersville, Ga. and Jerry Lee Pollard of Mt. Olive; and two sisters, Carolyn (Robert) Cheatwood of Cullman and Queenie Octavia Whitten of Eantonton, Ga.

Visitation was Monday.

John Herald Johnson

Memorial services for John Herald Johnson, 87, of Addison will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Nichols Funeral Chapel, G.R. Bridmon officiating, with Burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson died Nov. 22 in Greeley, Colo.

Survivors include his wife, Dura Isbell Johnson; two daughters, Janis Moore and Sherri Woodall; two brothers, Gerald Johnson and Theron Johnson; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Athel Zach Alston

Funeral services for Athel Zach Alston, 74, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Addison First Baptist Church, with Burial in Meek Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Alston died Sunday, Jan. 4. He was born Nov. 23, 1929.

Survivors include a son, Phillip Alston of Minor Hill, Tenn.; two daughters, Rhonda Stallings and Teresa Crider, both of Addison; two brothers, Fred Alston and E.C. Alston, both of Addison; a sister, Inez Woods of Addison; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Ethel Mae Corley Rosser

Funeral services for Ethel Mae Corley Rosser, 63, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Village Chapel Funeral Home in Gadsden, Billy Wise officiating, with Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.

Village Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rosser died Sunday, Jan. 4. She was married to Houston Rosser for 40 years. She was a dean of World College of Gadsden for 12 years. She attended Carroll Lynn Business School in Rome, Ga. She was the office manager for Dr. Grow in Anniston and made several trips to Haiti with missionary ministries to help with the children. She loved to participate in church activities and loved to cook for the church.

Survivors include two stepsons, Hugh Rosser and James Rosser, both of Centre; a stepdaughter, Sarah Tierce of Centre; two sisters, Edna Rollins and Joy Graves, both of Hanceville; three nieces, Vicki Rollins and Joanna Clark of Hanceville and Paula Brown of Anniston; two great-nieces, Angela Star Rollins of Garden City and Christina Graves of Hanceville; and two great-nephews, Brandon Graves and Buddy Bishop, both of Hanceville.

Carl Alexander Boyd

Funeral services for Carl Alexander Boyd, 87, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Roselawn Chapel, the Rev. Bill Simrell officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Roselawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boyd died Sunday, Jan. 4 in Decatur. He was born June 30, 1916 to Thomas Jefferson and Josephine Gann Boyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Isaac Boyd, Erskine Boyd and Earnest Boyd; and four sisters, Lillian Self, Pearl Smith, Mattie Boyd and Mable Barnett.

He is survived by two sisters, Opal Norton and Idelma Abbott, both of Decatur.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
