Funeral services for Willie Pauline Hite, 75, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Dale Bates officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Mrs. Hite died Monday, Dec. 15, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born July 24, 1928, in Cullman County to Matthew and Bertha Hicks Thompson. She was a nurse's aide retired from Hanceville Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Luther Hite.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Carol Parrish) Hite of Haleyville and Doyle (Kay Kretzschmar) Hite of Hanceville; a brother, Dallas Thompson of Phelan; two sisters, Agnes Brock and Louise Bates, both of Cullman; three grandchildren, Jeff Hite, Joanna Hite and Doyle Andrew Hite Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Garrett Ryan Hite, Brennon Luke Hite, Candice Lashae Anderson, Camron Kretzschmar and Cassidy Kretzschmar.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Janet Marie Reid
Memorial services for Janet Marie Reid, 59, of N. Biloxi, Miss., were Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville, Miss.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home of Biloxi, Miss. was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Reid died Sunday, Dec. 14, in Ocean Springs, Miss. She was a native and lifelong resident of the coast. She was a retired librarian assistant with the Jackson County School District and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Seymour.
Survivors include her husband, Carl "Don" Reid of N. Biloxi; a daughter, Donna Marie (Charlie) Burks of Ocean Springs; two sons, Carl Jr. (Teresa) Reid of Vancleave and Richard (Kimberly) Reid of Baton Rouge, La.; her father, Hugh C. Seymour; two sisters, Bedola Bond of Ocean Springs and Lula Jacquet of the Latimer community; three brothers, H.C. Seymour of Ocean Springs, Clarence Seymour of Vancleave and Michael Seymour of Latimer; and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Leukemia Society of America, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10605.
Quotez Donta Cole
Funeral services for Quotez Donta Cole, 26, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Liberty Church of God Cathedral, Elder A.J. Johnson Jr. officiating, with Burial in Glasco Hill Cemetery in Adamsville. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Mr. Cole died Tuesday, Dec. 16 in Hanceville. He was born in Birmingham on Sept. 23, 1977. He was a machine operator with American Proteins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Green.
Survivors include his mother, Jean (Mervin Turner) Lewis of Hanceville; two sisters, Aretha Johnson of Hanceville and Lashan Johnson of Tarrant; two nephews, Damion Johnson and Ollie Johnson Jr.; four nieces, Tishana Cole, Kristianna Johnson, Ollena Johnson and Olleshia Johnson; two special friends, Clarissa Bailey and Willie Pebbles; two uncles, Jessie Lee Cole and Jimmy Lee Cole; two aunts, Mary Johnson and Sally Sutton; two brothers-in-law, Ollie Johnson and Early Johnson; adopted grandparents, Leon and Vanzetta Turner.
Pallbearers will be his best friend, Richard Lewis (brother); and two cousins, Tavoris Patton (brother) and Bettye Green.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ernest A. Cordes
Funeral services for Ernest A. Cordes, 69, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Lake Catoma Baptist Church, the Revs. Layne Howard, Chris Cordes and Carroll Jordan officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Cordes died Tuesday, Dec. 16 at his residence. He was born June 25, 1934 in Cullman County to Herbert O. and Agnes Ann Canant Cordes. He was chief financial officer for the Loef Company in Athens, Ga. He graduated from Hanceville High School and Birmingham-Southern College. He was a member, teacher and treasurer of Lake Catoma Baptist Church. After retirement he was employed by Office Equipment Company in Cullman. He and his wife were foster parents for Georgia Baptist Children's Home for 15 years. He was a former member, teacher and treasurer of Crossroads Baptist Church in Carnesville, Ga.; a former member, teacher and choir director of Friendship Baptist Church in Mocksville, N.C.; and a former member, teacher and choir director of Leawood Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C. He sang all of his adult life. In his early years he sang in a quartet and then as a soloist in various churches and at numerous special events. He was a veteran of the armed forces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Edward Cordes.
Survivors include his wife, Lea Kretzschmar Cordes of Cullman; four sons, Jeff Cordes of Nashville, Tenn., David (Stacey) Cordes of Winston-Salem, N.C., Nicholas Cordes of Atlanta, Ga. and Joshua Cordes of Cullman; two daughters, Janet Cordes (Gerry) Blakeney of Martin, Ga. and Valerie (Alan) Brock of Cullman; a brother, Melvin (Martha) Cordes of Vinemont; a sister, Lucille (Edgar) Looney of Decatur; a grandson, Sean Patrick Blakeney; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bates died Tuesday, Dec. 16 at her residence. She was born Feb. 1, 1913 in Morgan County. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Daniel's Chapel Baptist Church and the Homemakers Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Washington and Mary Vincent Owen; her husband, Clyde B. Bates; two brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Billy W. (Miriam) Bates of Eva and Darrell B. (Linda) Bates of Fultondale; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wood of Eva; a sister, Leatha (Billy) Bowles of Apex, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Herman Henry Kress
Funeral services for Herman Henry Kress, 87, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. J.C. Graves officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Kress died Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 26, 1916 to John and Barbara Wolf Kress. He was retired from General Motors. He was a lifelong resident of Cullman, also helped on the construction of the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Lee Kress.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ann Dolan of Flint, Mich.; a grandson, Mark Dolan of Cullman; a granddaughter, Crystal (Vernon) Page of Decatur; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Page and Lindsay Page, both of Decatur.
Visitation was Wednesday.
Myrtle Ruth Overton

George Robert 'Pop' Southard

Mr. Southard died Tuesday, Dec. 16 at his residence. He was born May 14, 1915 to Theodore Lee and Pearl Mae Walls Southard in Jefferson County. He was a foreman for Burgreen Construction Company. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hartselle.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Elmore Southard; a daughter, Barbara Southard; and a stepdaughter, Ann Sumrall.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Southard of Hartselle; three sons, George Southard of Hartselle, John Southard of Harvest and Danny Southard of Athens; two stepsons, Jerry Jetton and Jimmy Jetton, both of Hillsboro; a daughter, Marilyn Laxson of Athens; four stepdaughters, Melba Southard and Karen Jetton, both of Hartselle, Janice Mayfield of Hillsboro and Teresa Reid of Cullman; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Robert P. Hager Sr.
Funeral services for Robert P. Hager Sr., 83, of Eva will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Lexington, Ky., the Revs. Clyde Ledlow and David Welsh officiating.

He died Dec. 17 at his residence. He was a member of the Christian Church (Hillsdale) in Lexington. He was born May 23, 1920, in Kentucky, the son of Samuel and Dora Ann Copenhaver Hager. He was a store manager of Begley Drug Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy (James) Partain of Hayden; two sisters, Zell Smith of Cullman and Evelyn Montgomery of Everett, Wash.; one brother, Dovard Norris of Cullman; two grandchildren, John (Susana) Partain of Mexico and Julia (Frankie) Wall of Hayden; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley Partain and Adam Partain, both of Lorton, Va., and Jake Wall and Luke Wall, both of Hayden.

Mr. Wood died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at his residence. He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Alabama to James Walter and Dozie Bell Dye Wood. He was an electrician and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He started his career as a electrician with Richard Electric Company. He later owned and operated his own business. He later started work for the Board of Education and worked there until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Levi Jackson Wood and Elvie Wood; and a sister, Effie Eady.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Wood; two daughters, Linda Bartlett and Barbara Turner; a brother, the Rev. Duel Wood; a sister, Christine Drummond; five grandchildren, Joe and Thurlom Johnson, Rhett and Kevin Bartlett and Lori Bartlett Hammack; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today.

Mrs. Walker died Friday, Dec. 12, at Medical Center Blount. She was born in Cullman County on May 6, 1933, to Chester and Arizona Pierce Harper. She was a retired cook for El Rancho Restaurant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Bernard Walker; and her parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Sue Reynolds of Joppa, Cecelia Hyatt of Ryan and Sharron Wise of Locust Fork; a son, Tommy Walker of Scant City; five sisters, Florence Burns of Calif., Flossie Haigler of Birmingham, Pat Heatherly and Mary Valincourt, both of Cullman, and Betty McCauley of Pinson; two brothers, R.Q. Harper of Cullman and Jake Harper of Baileyton; nine grandchildren, Shannon Reynolds, Chris Wise, Todd Wise, Kevin Reynolds, Brady Hyatt, Heather Hyatt, Steven Hyatt, Daniel Walker and Christina Walker; and five great-grandchildren, Justin Wise, Zach Wise, Cody Wise, Joseph Wise and Emily Hyatt.
