Funeral services for Ernestt Roland West, 70, of Daphne will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Larry Stallings officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. West died Monday, Dec. 8, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1933, in Morgan County to Ernest L. and Ara Brooks West. He was a retired carpenter for the city of Mobile. He was a veteran of the U.s. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion Patrica Howell West; a brother, Hershel West; and a sister, Ethel Brannon.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Monica) West of Montgomery, Horace 'Randy' West of Daphne and Thomas West of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Virgie (Harvey) McCain of Crane Hill; and a grandson, Morgan West.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Dixie Maze

Funeral services for Dixie Maze, 85, of Holly Pond will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Sardis Baptist Church in Winston County, the Rev. Glen Woods officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haze died Saturday, Dec. 6, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Missouri to Zeb and Renie Sawyer Vance. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther Garland Maze; a son, Elbert Maze; a daughter, Velma Maze Skinner; and three grandsons, Jimmie Maze Jr., James L. Beck and Quincey Ramey.

Survivors include a son, Jimmie Sr. (Catherine) Maze of Milano, Texas; two daughters, Marie Beck of Houston, Texas and Margaret (Karlton) Smitherman of Holly Pond; three sisters, Opal Bailey of Kentucky, Elsie Rodgers of Jones Chapel and Ruby Vance of Huntsville; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.

Norvil Smith

Funeral services for Norvil Smith, 64, of Logan were Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Walter Blackman officiating, with Burial in Sardis Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Saturday, Dec. 6, at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 28, 1939. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel F. Smith; and his grandparents, Wheeler and Clerey Smith and Janeral and Beulah Brock.

Survivors include his parents, Fred E. and Velma Brock Smith; two brothers, Gail (Faye) Smith and Earl T. Smith; and seven sisters, Clovis (Frank) King, Shirley Couch, Earlene (James) Bozley, Geneva (Hershel) Stewart, Vera Hollingsworth, Linda (Wendell) Hutson and Glenda (Mike) Slaton.

Visitation was Sunday.

Carrie Mae Randolph

Funeral services for Carrie Mae Randolph, 90, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Vernon Willis officiating, with Burial in Mt. Pisgah United Congregational Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Randolph died Sunday, Dec. 7, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 27, 1913, in Alabama to William Jackson and Idella Gregg Pruett. She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Congregational Presbyterian Church for 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.W. "Wink" Randolph; her parents; four brothers, Collins Pruett, Herman Pruett, Finis Pruett and Earnest Pruett; and seven sisters, Buelah Akin, Elma Dye, Wilma Rooks, Edna Prater, Wynell Walker, Estelle Baggett and Verdie Duke.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Griffin, Melba Schwaiger and Brenda (Ray) Brown; a son, Darrell (Judy) Randolph; a brother, E.D. "Fritz" (Ethel) Pruett; four grandsons, John (Tonya) Schwaiger, Steve (Lila) Schwaiger, Kevin (Fran) Brown and Jesse Randoph; four granddaughters, LaDonna Griffin, Angela (Greg) Baker, Kori (Patrick) Wiginton and Serena (David) Roth; four great-grandsons, Brandon Miller, Dustin Schwaiger, Jarrett Baker and Tyler Roth; and eight great-granddaughters, Jordan Schwaiger, Shelby Schwaiger, Olivia Schwaiger, Tiffani Schwaiger, Carrie Baker, Emily Klair Brown, Brooke Roth and Jennifer Roth.

Visitation was Monday.

Lillie Mae Barker

Graveside services for Lillie Mae Barker, 96, of Cullman were Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Lower Cain Creek Cemetery in Heflin, the Rev. Brad McDonald officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barker died Saturday, Dec. 6, at her residence. She was born Jan. 19, 1907, in Cleburne County to Nesba and Arlevia Barber Barker. She was a retired school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a niece, Mary Joe Almon.

Survivors include a sister, Ethalene Almon of Cullman.

Visitation was Sunday.

Wilma Elizabeth Boyles

Funeral services for Wilma Elizabeth Boyles, 66, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, De. 10, 2003, at Arab-Heritage Chapel in Arab, the Rev. Junior Berry and the Rev. Morris Nunnelley officiating, with Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Boyles died Sunday, Dec. 7, in Huntsville. She was born De. 22, 1937, in Madison County to Elmer and Beatrice Hastings Thompson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Baileyton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "R.L." Boyles, and parents-in-law, Jim and Mary Boyles.

Survivors include tow sons, Randy Boyles of Arab and Robbie Boyles of Baileyton; two daughters, Sharon McCollum of Oneonta and Sue Pruitt of Baileyton; two brothers, Gene Thompson and Junior Thompson, both of Tennessee; three sisters, Margaret Larkin of Arab and Janice Ekart and Rhonda Hall, both of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Lakeyda Nichols, Shane Washburn, Ray Thompson, Hannah Boyles and Blake Boyles; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Nichols and Cody Nichols.

Pallbearers will be Bob Hall, Ronald Vickers, Jerry Larkins, Kevin Whitworth, Chuck Nichols and Johnny Larkins.

George Larry Bartlett

Funeral services for George Larry Bartlett of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Nichols Funeral Chapel, Randall Edmondson, Allan Hughes and Ricky Bartlett officiating, with Burial in White Oak Cemetery in Cullman.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bartlett died Sunday, Dec. 7, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bartlett of Cullman; his mother, Vera Bartlett of Nesmith; a daughter, Lori (Roger) Hammack of Houston; two sons, Kevin Bartlett and Rhett Bartlett, both of Cullman; four sisters, Carol (Jack) Stewart of Crane Hill, Sandra (E.J.) Ergle and Charlotte (Billy) Owens, both of Addison, and Diann (Kirby) Key of Cullman; a brother, Gary (Carolyn) Bartlett of Logan; and four grandchildren, Zach, Kendre, Levi and Ralie Hammack.

Julis Roy Sumner

Graveside services for Julis Roy Sumner, 44, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Greg Washington officiating.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sumner died Sunday, Dec. 7, at Bankhead Forest.

Survivors include his mother, Emma Mae Delopper of Crane Hill; five sisters, Judy Ortiz and Jackie McCormick, both of Arkansas, Josie Sumner of Crane Hill, Earlene Sumner and Lena Sumner, both of Texas; and four brothers, John Sumner of Crane Hill, Bobby Joe Sumner of Texas, and Jerry Sumner and Jeff Sumner, both of Jones Chapel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

John Mark Ponder

Funeral services for John Mark Ponder, 48, of Birmingham will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial-Trussville Chapel, Randy Lyons officiating, with Burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ponder died Sunday, Dec. 7. He was retired as a police officer from Jefferson State Community College with 25 years of service. He was currently employed at Medical Center East. He was a member of Center Point Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Holly Pond High School and was a 1979 graduate of Samford University with a degree in criminal justice. He served as past president of AEA of Jefferson State.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Ponder.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Audrey Faye Ponder; a daughter, Heather Renee Ponder; his mother, Mrs. Sam Ponder; a brother, Carl Ponder; a niece, Ronica Burns; two nephews, Stoney and Joseph Holland; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and a longtime friend, Benny Lindley.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Florence Nunnelley Garner

Graveside services for Florence Nunnelley Garner, 92, of Gulf Shores will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Simcoe Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Garner died Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Beverly Nursing Home in Foley. She was born June 9, 1911 to Jasper and Georgia Nunnelley. She was the only girl out of six children, was a homemaker and caregiver. She enjoyed Sacred Harp singing and was a member of First Baptist Church in Gardendale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Seburn Doss; her second husband, Rufus Garner; three stepdaughters, Agnus Bailey, Maude Quinn and Mae Boutwell; three stepsons, Albert, Charles and Kelly Doss; five brothers, Emmett, Jessie, Marvin, Birdis and Willie Nunnelley; and a grandchild, Holly Michelle Wilks.

Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Doss (Chief Ken) Wilks of Gulf Shores; three stepdaughters, Katie Traywick, Billie Roberts and Margie Story, all of Gardendale; a grandchild, Bryan (Ashley) Wilks of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren, Holly Grace Wilks and Isabella Jane Wilks of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wade and Jimmie Smith, both of Hueytown, Bobby Roberts of Tuscaloosa, David Roberts of Gardendale, and James Nunnelley and Winfred Nunnelley, both of Cullman.

Visitation will be from noon until 3 p.m. Friday.

Alma B. Waters Voigt

Funeral services for Alma B. Waters Voigt, 87, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Scott Arnold officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

Mrs. Voigt died Tuesday, Dec. 9 at her residence. She was born Sept. 15, 1916 to Paul L. and Lena Wren Waters. She was a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of Cullman County having lived the last 60 years in Hanceville. She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman A. Voigt; a sister, Maggie Waters; four brothers, Cranford "Bunk," Jesse, Howard and Tony Waters; a great-grandson, Phillip Voigt; and a great-granddaughter, Vanessa Petrey.

Survivors include two sons, Herman A. "Sonny" (Betty) Voigt of Hanceville and Victor L. (Pat) Voigt of Spartanburg, S.C.; two daughters, Arlene Voigt (Jim) Stuckey and Kathryn Voigt (Leon) Waters, both of Birmingham; three brothers, Albert Waters and Luen (Tessie) Waters, both of Sidney, Ohio and Bobby (Lisa) Waters of Huntsville; three sisters, Dura Whatley and Glenda (Pete) Harris, both of Cullman, and Hazel Morris of Tuscaloosa; three sisters-in-law, Ada Waters of Ocala, Fla., Joyce Waters of Taylor, Mich. and Leona Waters of Cullman; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church ELCA, 424 2nd Ave. SE, Cullman, Ala. 35055 or to Hospice of Cullman County, 402 4th St. NE, Cullman, Ala. 35055.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Hannah L. Grigsby

Funeral services for Hannah L. Grigsby, 89, of Hayden will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Blountsville Funeral Chapel, Michael Brogdon, Jerry Thomas and Keith Banks officiating, with Burial in Austin Creek Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grigsby died Tuesday, Dec. 9 at her daughter's residence in Altoona. She was born in Blount County to John D. and Mary J. Murphree Dunn. She was a homemaker and a member of Austin Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie Carl Grigsby; a daughter, Margie Marie Doty; her parents; two brothers, Clarence Dunn and Clyde Dunn; and three sisters, Hattie Pettit, Anne Richards and Ida Hitt.

Survivors include four daughters, Martha Mae Hayes of Blount County, Barbara Ann Phillips of Blountsville, Peggy J. Mullier of Ringo, Ga. and Judy Kay Grigsby of Altoona; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 20 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one adopted granddaughter, Barbara Woodard of Blountsville.

Pallbearers will be William Allen, Donald Hayes, Bill Bryant, Rodney Bryson, Rusty Milam and Larry Bryant.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

James Douglas Freeman

Funeral services for James Douglas Freeman, 59, of Vinemont, formerly of Walker County, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Kilgore-Green Chapel, Melvin Cordes officiating, with Burial in Boldo Cemetery.

Kilgore Green Funeral Home of Birmingham is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Freeman died Tueday, Dec. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Dock Freman; a son, Greg Freeman; and a brother, Dennis Freeman.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie (Dawn) Freeman of Vinemont and Danny (Alisha) Freeman of Jasper; a granddaughter, Bethany Hope Freeman; a grandson, Kalon Patrick Freeman; two sisters, Emma (Tommy) Johnson of Cullman and Debra (Frankie) Lane of Jasper; and his mother, Ola Freeman Elliot of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
