WILLIAM ARTHUR PRUITT

ALPINE — Graveside service for William Arthur Pruitt, 96, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Tallassahatchie Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Crowe officiating.

Mr. Pruitt died Aug. 21. He was married for 59 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis Pruitt of Alpine; three sons, Mack Arthur Pruitt, Jerry Lee Pruitt and Robert Earl Pruitt of Alpine; one daughter, Barbara Ann House of Alpine; two sisters, Edna E. Pruitt Thompson and Ethel Inez Pruitt Blackmon of Sylacauga; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

HENRY SHADE GAITHER

MUNFORD — Funeral service for Henry Shade Gaither, 83, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mark Gaither officiating. Burial will be in Stockdale Cemetery.

Mr. Gaither died Aug. 20 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Talladega County, he was a member of Ironaton United Methodist Church and was retired from Wilcox Roofing.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Geneva Gaither of Munford; five daughters, Sara Ann Pilkington of Hollins, Jewel Dean Russell of Talladega, Alice Faye Parton of Anniston, Henrietta Neville of Talladega and Inez Ferguson of Munford; three sons, Steve Dickson Gaither of Pitts, Ga., Kenneth Daniel Gaither of Munford and Ralph Henry Gaither of Munford; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Gaither, Chris Bishop, David Griffin, Tony Ferguson, DeWayne Ferguson and Timothy Hallman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Gaither, Jeff Gaither, Chris Wolf and Jeremy Wolf.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

ROLAND GARRETT

BIRMINGHAM — Roland (Dock) Garrett, 46, of 39th Terrance North, died Aug. 19 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Garrett's Funeral Home.

HARVEY McCAIN

SYLACAUGA — Memorial service for Harvey McCain, 70, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mignon Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Reaves officiating.

Mr. McCain died Aug. 21. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce L. Huff McCain; his parents, Wesley McCain and Jessie Lou McCain; and two sisters, Mattie Arline Maness and Mary Magdelene Graham.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie McCain of Sylacauga; four sons, John McCain of Niceville, Fla., Harvey L. McCain of Ft. Walton, Fla., Ricky Berry of Sylacauga and John Berry of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Hayley J. Young of Alexander City, Susan Williams of Hollins and Pam Machen of Sylacauga; two brothers, Melvin McCain of Guntersville and Marvin McCain of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lakeside Hospice, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Mignon Baptist Church.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA — Sharon Morris died Aug. 21 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

GORDON ROUGHTON

MELLOW VALLEY — Funeral service for Gordon Roughton, 82, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mellow Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Young and the Rev. Randy Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Roughton died Aug. 20 at Clay County Hospital in Ashland. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, was a veteran of the United States Army and was an equipment operator for Clay County Commission for 17 years. He was a farmer and a member of Mellow Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Roughton of Mellow Valley; three daughters, Brenda Gortney of Mellow Valley, Wanda Strickland of Birmingham and Janet McVey of Mellow Valley; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ashley McVey, Dusty McVey, Julian Gortney, Wesley Flowers, Dale Watts and David McVey.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and until service time at the funeral home.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

MARIE CARR ALLEN THOMAS

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Marie Carr Allen Thomas, 63, of A-5 Copper Homes, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Quintin Woods officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas died Aug. 17 at Talladega Health Care Center. She was a lifelong resident of Anniston and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnson Lee Carr and Mattie Mae Carr, and her husband, Jimmy Lee Thomas.

She is survived by three daughters, Johnnie Cowden, Sarah Parker and Miranda Harris of Anniston; one son, James Allen of Anniston; one sister, Dorothy Davis Parker of Anniston; two foster brothers; four foster sisters; foster mother, Myrtle Miller of Anniston; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Anniston Funeral Service will direct the service.

WILLIE A. THOMAS

TALLADEGA — Willie A. Thomas, 78, of 943 Davis St., died Aug. 20 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

MARY COLLEEN BROWNING VICKERS

GOODWATER — Funeral service for Mary Colleen Browning Vickers, 69, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Oak Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stone and the Rev. Michael Vickers officiating. Burial will be in Oak Chapel Baptist Cemetery in Goodwater.

Mrs. Vickers died Aug. 20. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elsie Browning, and nine brothers and sisters. She was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church and was a previous member of Meyers Mill Baptist in Barnwell, S.C. She was married in Rockford and had been married for 52 years.

She is survived by her husband, Calvin Vickers of Goodwater; three sons, Charles Douglas (Doug) Vickers and Michael Alan Vickers of Aiken, S.C., and Richard Steven Vickers of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Mary Alice Vickers Grant of Aiken, S.C.; one brother, Charles Browning of Orange City, Fla.; one sister, Deanie Holland of Albany, Ga.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Vickers, Dewayne Pike, Andy Vickers, Jackie Vickers, David Vickers, Johnny Vickers and Donnie Vickers.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.
