RICHARD McELRATH

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Richard McElrath, 42, of 108 Hawk Lane, Sylacauga, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Manuell Smith III officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.

Mr. McElrath died Wednesday at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center.

A native of Coosa County, he was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist church and employed with Avondale Mills. He was a Gulf War Veteran.

He is survived by his mother, Pauline McElrath of Goodwater; one daughter, LaTonya McElrath of Sylacauga; six brothers, William McElrath, Kenny McElrath, Leslie McElrath, and James McElrath of Goodwater, Jack McElrath of Detroit, and Larry Gaffney of Alexander City; and three grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Madden Funeral Service Chapel.

Madden Funeral Service will direct the services.

MYRTIS IRENE BROWNING McCLENDON DAVIS

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for Myrtis Irene Browning McClendon Davis, 91, of Lineville will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Davis died Friday at Athena Rehab Center in Lake City, Ga.

A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, she had lived in Morrow, Ga., for the last 11 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther E. Davis; one son, Bob McClendon; one grandson, Robbie Davis; five sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Bailey of Morrow; two sons, James W. "Billy” McClendon of West Point, Ga., and Robert Davis of Big Springs; seven grandsons; five granddaughters; 17 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.

Benefield Funeral Home will direct the services.

BILLY G. GARDNER

JEMISON — Funeral service for BiLLY G. Gardner, 66, of 77 First Ave., Jemison, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Harpersville Methodist Church with Brother Alvin Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Harpersville City Cemetery.

Mr. Gardner died Thursday at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

A native of Shelby County, he worked as a master electrician.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Gardner of Jemison; one daughter, Karen Neal of Jemison; two sisters, Dannie Pouraiu of Birmingham and Patsy Creech of Lakeland, Fla.; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Martin Funeral Home will direct the service.

REV. JOHN W. OSBORNE SR.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for the Rev. John W. Osborne Sr., 78, of Alexander City will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with Dr. Phillip Sessions and Dr. Roy Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Rev. Osborne died Saturday in Alexander City.

A native of Milltown, he served as a minister for the Nazarene Church for 47 years. He was a member of the Alexander City chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a veteran of World War II, and served on many district committees for the Church of the Nazarene. He was married for 55 years.

He is survived by his wife, Recie Osborne of Alexander City; four sons, Don Williams of Sylacauga, Charles Osborne of Foley, Kenneth Osborne of Foley and John Osborne Jr. of Alexander City; one daughter, Deborah Stroud of Sylacauga; two brothers, Jack Osborne of Lannett and Bob Osborne of Clearwater, Fla.; three sisters, Effie Davis of Valley, Recie Sims of Lannett and Bertha Davis of Montgomery; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

EMMA TURNER

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Emma Turner, 93, of Alexander City will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Great Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Emerson Ware Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander City Cemetery.

Mrs. Turner died Wednesday at her residence.

She is survived by a daughter, Willie Pearl Turner of Alexander City; two sons, Joe Turner and Marshall Holley of Columbus, Ohio; two step-daughters, Mary Jean Fitten of Dadeville and Shirley Hutchins of Alexander City; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four nieces; one nephew; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home in Alexander City.

Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

THEODORE JOSEPH VOLK JR.

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Theodore Joseph "Tevie" Volk Jr., 80, of 994 N. Lakeshore Drive, Talladega, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church with Father Jose Manjaly officiating. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery in Hoover.

Mr. Volk died Saturday at his residence.

A native of Macon, Ga., he lived most of his life in the Birmingham and Talladega areas. He was a member of St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the Tony Chiera Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

He retired from the Communications Workers of America after beginning his career with Southern Bell in Macon in 1941. After serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II from 1942 to 1945, he returned to Macon and began a union career as a job steward for the Communications Workers of America, Local 3217. He served on the education committee, then was elected vice president and president of his local. In 1955, he was appointed South Carolina director and subsequently strike director for southern California, Canadian director of CWA in Toronto, area director in Birmingham and administrative assistant to the vice president in Birmingham. He was elected vice president of District 10 in 1983, the position from which he retired in 1988.

He is preceded in death by his son, Theodore Joseph Volk III.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel R. Volk of Talladega; four daughters, Gail V. West of Hoover, Sharon V. Parsons of Center Point, Deborah V. Daniel of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary V. Maharrey of Homewood; two sisters, Dot Gutendorf of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Noel Troxclair of Plaqumine, La.; and 10 grandchildren.

Knights of Columbus will act as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church.
