Catherine Sager Fortson
BROWNSVILLE, Oregon — Catherine S. Fortson, 69, of Brownsville, Oregon, died on June 7, 2008 at her home.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday June 14 at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home in Brownsville, with a private family interment in Pioneer Cemetery.
Catherine was born Dec. 8, 1939 in Choctaw, Ala., one of eight children born to John and Susie (Quinn) Sager. She grew up in Choctaw and completed her schooling in Butler. She met Hillard “Jerry” Fortson on a blind date in Demopolis, where she was working at a Vanity Fair plant. They were married on Dec. 23, 1960 in Linden. They moved to Oregon in 1969 and settled in Brownsville in 1970.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Wallace and twin brother Carson; sisters, Eva Wallace, Lillian Davidson and Johnnie Norwood.
She is survived by her husband, Hillard “Jerry” Fortson of Brownsville; sons, Ronald of Brownsville and Michael of Lebanon; brothers, Aubrey Sager and Lewis Sager; four grandchildren, Brandy, Jeremy, Amber and Carson; one great grandchildren, Juniper; and best friend, Marie “Chinky” Ventz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Myron George Jenkins
BUTLER — Myron George Jenkins, 72, passed away on June 4, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom Jenkins and Josephine Busby Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins was a retired galvanizer for U&R Galvanizing.
Bumpers Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte Wainwright
MOBILE — Charlotte Wainwright, a native of Pennington and resident of Mobile, died June 4, 2008 at a local health care facility.
Services were held June 9th at Hope Chapel AME Zion Church with burial in Catholic Cemetery in Mobile.
Wainwright was 92.
Survivors include three sisters, Emma Potter of Detroit, and Irene Turner and Johnnie M. Christopher, both of Mobile.
Reese Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Max Shirley
CAUSEYVILLE, MS — Services for Max Shirley were held June 6, 2008 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Mobile.
Mr. Shirley was a former resident of Toxey and a longtime resident of Mobile. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifelong member of the U.S. Merchant Marines and retired as a Chief Engineer for Amerada Hess.
Mr. Shirley was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Maxine Bonner Shirley; his parents, John H. and Ella Adrea Wolfe Shirley; brothers, Hylan Shirley, Lamar Shirley, Dement Shirley, Lyle Shirley, Ted Shirley, Brad Shirley, and Al Shirley; sisters, Myrtie Kerr, Minnie Chatham and Vivian Coker.
He is survived by his children, Deborah (Jim) Torbert of Mobile, Mike (Melissa) Shirley of Mobile, and Paula (Greg) Gardner of Madison, MS; sister, Kathleen Semmes of Meridian, MS; five grandchildren, Ryan Torbert, Tyler Gardner, Taylor Gardner, John Michael Shirley, and Troy Shirley; and a host of other family and friends.

Calvin James “C.J.” Oates, Jr.
TOXEY — Services for Calvin James “C.J.” Oates, Jr., 85, were held on June 6, 2008 at Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown, with Rev. Michael Elliott and Rev. Clovis Lewis officiating. Interment followed in the Mosley Cemetery.
Mr. Oates, son of the late Calvin “Josh” and Millie Carlisle Oates, passed away on June 3 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian.
He is survived by his wife, Myra C. Oates of Toxey; two daughters, Wanda Jean Daugherty of Toxey and Patti O. (Bobby) Singley of Meridian; one brother, John Oates of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Edith Doggett of Gilbertown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shannon Daugherty, Opie Daugherty, Calvin Daugherty, Joey Lewis, Marlon Lucus, and Clifford Rudder.
Phillips Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille J. Turner-Mayfield
MILLRY — Services for Lucille J. Turner-Mayfield were held at Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church in Millry, with Rev. Leonard Jackson officiating. Interment was in the Pate Turner Cemetery in Millry.
Born Dec. 10, 1915, Turner-Mayfield was a Choctaw County Extension program member and a former home health assistant. She was also a retired substitute teacher.
Turner-Mayfield passed away on May 13, 2008 at her residence.
Survivors include three sons, Rufus Turner, of Nashville, TN, Joseph C. Turner and Marvin Turner, of Toxey; a step-son, Ulysses Mayfield; two daughters, Sylvia D. Westmoreland, of Nashville, and Dorothy E. McQueen, of Millry; four step-daughters, Unice, Louise, Altha, and Sylvia; a sister, Lela J. Bearden of Sumner; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, her parents, a daughter, four brothers, and one sister.
Turner Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS, was in charge of the arrangements.

Zack Izar DuBose
SILAS — Services for Zack Izar DuBose, 83, were held on May 24, 2008 at Spring Bank Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby Holder and Rev. Wesley Slay officiating. Interment followed in the Edgar Cemetery in Silas.
Mr. DuBose, son of the late Asia Izar DuBose and Lyddia G. Hankins DuBose, passed away on May 22 at his residence.
He is survived by his son Tony Edwin (Susan) DuBose of Grove Hill; two daughters, Janice Dale DuBose (Terry) Williams of Silas and Debra Ann DuBose of Silas; one daughter-in-law, Kathy G. DuBose of Gilbertown; two grandsons, Jeremy Shane (Monica) Williams and Eric Ladell (Whitney) DuBose; two great-granddaughters, Jonah Bess and Josie John-Kathryn DuBose; and one great-grandson, Hunter Shane Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy McLain DuBose; his first wife, Hazel Stanley DuBose; two brothers, Acey Cecil DuBose and James Emmet DuBose; three sisters, Julie Pearl Sumrall, Velva Fae Sumrall, and Gladys Lillian DuBose; and two sons, Johnny Ladell DuBose and Gary Allen DuBose.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Wimberly, Tom Stokes, Terry “Winky” Reed, Scott Lassiter, Franklin Baxter, and Jeff Vanderford with Pete Vanderford and Johnny Williams serving as alternates.
Honorary pallbearers were Foy DeVane, Claude B. Wimberly, James Charles Utsey, Malcolm Utsey, Pete Vanderford, Bobby Joe Rogers, Chuck Reed, Cecil Taylor, Don Baughman, Harry Flint, Horace Stokley, Rayford Taylor, Edward Gibson, Jerry DuBose, Barr McClellan, Gaston Dutton, Joseph D. White, Ricky DuBose, Rodger M. White, Harold DeVane, Robert McIlwain, and Russell McIlwain.
Phillips Funeral Home of Gilbertown was in charge of the arrangements.

Florene S. Hampton
MT. STERLING — Services for Florene S. Hampton, 57, were held on May 15, 2008 at Hayden and Butler Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Hampton officiating. Internment followed at Woodall Cemetery.
Florene was known as a sweet and loving person. In May 1973, she was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness. She enjoyed teaching people about God’s Kingdom.
She is survived by four children, Darryl (Pamela) Hampton of Tuscaloosa, Raquel (Shaun) Hampton of Lawrenceville, GA, Rodney (Marilyn) Hampton of Deatsville, and Conchela (Montreal) Hearn of Calera; nine grandchildren, Quiniqua, DJ, Shaundarius, Scheniqua, Tre, Rodney, Candace, Jayla and Kolby; one brother, Jessie (Till) Smith of Ohio; two sisters, Mary (Tommie) Ezell of Ohio and Loise (Roosevelt) Dixon of Pennington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lois James.
Pallbearers and flower bearers were friends and family.
Hayden and Butler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hyacinth Williams
1980-2003
Funeral services for Hyacinth Williams, 23, of Dothan will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial following at Hatchett Springs Cemetery. Rev. Melvin Ervin will be officiating.
Ms. Williams died Jan. 8, 2003, at Carraway Methodist Medial Center in Birmingham.
She was born Jan. 6, 1980 to Della Williams and Ian Sutherland.
She is survived by her mother, Della Williams of Dothan; father, Ian Sutherland of Atlanta; two brother Terrance Todd and his wife Christine and Gerald Todd, all of Dothan; two aunts, Katie Frizzle of Birmingham and Norma Sims of New York; two uncles, Willie Todd and his wife Catherine of Goodwater and Lewis McKinney of Syracuse, N.Y.; six nieces and nephews and a host of special friends and other relatives.
Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Curtis Morgan
1926-2003
Funeral services for Curtis Morgan, 76, of Dadeville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. The Rev. James Owens will officiate. Burial will follow at Baskin A.M.E. Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Morgan died Jan. 10, 2003, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. He was born May 26, 1926, to Raymond and Alma Morgan.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Ola Morgan of Dadeville; two daughters, Mary Gail Morgan and husband Anthony and Robbie Nell Marbury and husband Tony, all of Dadeville; one son, Curtis Wayne Morgan and wife Priscilla of Dadeville; one brother, Ralph Morgan and wife Mary Bertha of Dadeville; one sister, LaSandra Hatcher and husband Terry of Camp Hill; one special niece, Edna Baxter and husband Herbert of Summerville, S.C.; two brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Virginia Lambert Angle
1935-2003
Funeral services for Virginia Lambert Angle, 67, of Kellyton were at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Heritage Chapel. The Rev. Autry Waters officiated. Burial followed at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003.
Mrs. Angle died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at her residence. She was born Aug. 4, 1935, to Dewech and Eva Smith Lambert. She was employed by Vending Food Service.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Ray Angle and Timmy Lee Angle, both of Kellyton; three daughters, Gay Elizabeth Angle of Kellyton, Peggy Jean Woodfin and Shirley Marie Brown, both of Alexander City; a special niece and nephew, Sandra and Carl Angle; a special great-niece, Amber Angle, and one grandchild, Samantha Brook Hooks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Angle and two grandchildren, Daniel James Brown and Jonathan Edward Brown.
Heritage Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
