WALLACE CARMAN MOREY

HOOVER — Funeral service for Wallace Carman Morey, 82, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with Dr. William Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Morey died Dec. 3 at Healthsouth Hospital in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Wallis Morey and his son, Wallace Carman "Chick" Morey Jr. He was retired from Prudential Insurance in management and was a native of Jersey City, N.J.

He is survived by one daughter, Peggy Morey Smith and her husband Milford Smith of Selma; grandchildren, John Christopher Morey, Evan Wallace Morey, Cameron Speake Morey, Keri Smith Walker and Michael Lamar Smith; three great-grandchildren; one niece, Merry Knapp and her husband Mal and one nephew, Wallis Perry Schuessler and his wife Martha.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Tannehill Wood Carvers Club.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

JOHN NORTHCUTT

HARPERSVILLE — John Northcutt, 74, died Dec. 3 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel.

JEREMY CALDWELL SIMMONS

OPELIKA — Funeral service for Jeremy Caldwell Simmons, 18, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Auburn United Methodist Church with Dr. George Mathison officiating. Burial will be in Garden Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Simmons died Dec. 1 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He had lived most of his life in the Opelika-Auburn area and participated in Dixie Youth Baseball. He graduated from Lee-Scott Academy, and played high school baseball and football. He was a sophomore at Auburn University and was a member of SAE fraternity. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Dewie Simmons of Childersburg.

He is survived by his parents, Johnny and Janine Simmons of Opelika; one sister, Jordan Simmons of Opelika; one brother, P.J. Simmons of Opelika; his grandmother, Dorothy Popovich Gould of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

The family requests memorials be sent to Lee-Scott Academy in Opelika.

Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, Opelika, will direct the service.

HULEN HUNTER SOUTHERN

VINCENT — Funeral service for Hulen Hunter Southern, 88, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Lindy Martin officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.

Mr. Southern died Dec. 2. He was born in Vincent, was a graduate of Vincent High School and served in the U.S. Army Third Infantry Division, serving in the North African and European Theatres during World War II. He was a part of three amphibious landings in Sicily, Anzio, Italy and Merseille, France and he received eight battle stars. After serving in World War II, he returned to Vincent and opened Southern Grocery. He operated the store for 40 years. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, was a former justice of the peace in the Vincent area and was a lover of history, especially American and Indian history. He was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Simons and one brother, Oscar D. Southern Jr.

He is survived by six sisters, Hassie Sims, Ruby Rich, Edna Fleming, Eva Smith and Dorothy Whitten of Vincent and Thelma (Sister) Gilliland of Tuscaloosa; three brothers, Gordon Southern of Chula Vista, Calif., Solon Southern of Vincent and Edward Southern of Pell City and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Eric Lenn, Kenneth Whitten, Greg Gilliland, Leonard Southern, Michael Southern, Vichael Fleming and Jerry Rich.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Wade, Patrick Wade, Kenneth W. Simons III and Donald Gilliland.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

ORA DEE BENJAMIN

LANSING, Mich. — Funeral service for Ora Dee Benjamin will be Saturday at noon at Gorsline Funeral Home in Lansing, Mich.

Mrs. Benjamin died Dec. 2.

She is survived by one son, Parnell (Tracy) Benjamin of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph Benjamin of Talladega and Clarence and Truman Benjamin of Birmingham; seven sisters, Pearlie Tanner, Josie Benjamin, Vista Benjamin and Wendell Calhoun of Talladega, Willie Mildred Grant of Andalusia and Claudia Jackson and Barbara Berry of Canton, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, cards may be sent to Gorsline Funeral Home, 900 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing, Mich., 48912.

Gorsline Funeral Home will direct the service.

DIANA K. NICHOLS TOMLIN

RIVERSIDE — Funeral service for Diana K. Nichols Tomlin will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with Brother Bobby Parker from Cook Springs Baptist Church and Brother Ronnie Cheatwood from Riverside Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery in Riverside.

Mrs. Tomlin died Dec. 3 at Brookwood Hospital with her husband by her side. She was born Feb. 16, 1950, in New Kensington, Pa. She was a native of Allegheny, TWP, Pa., and lived in Riverside for the past 16 years. She was a Lutheran by faith and was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church of Leechburg, Pa., and an associate member of Riverside Baptist Church in Riverside. She was an administrative assistant as well as a notary with Energy Absorption System in Pell City for the past 11 years. She attended East Anchorage High School in Alaska and graduated Kiski Area High School in Vandergrift, Pa. She was a graduate from Emory Riddle College. She enjoyed reading, genealogy and crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by a son, John William Tomlin; her parents, John Henry and Anna Gertrude Nichols; one brother, Kevin Gary Nichols and one sister, Carol Sue Hebrank.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, William T. Tomlin Jr. of Riverside; one daughter, Veronica and husband Jack Whitaker of Ragland; one son, Michael and wife Leslie Tomlin of Helena; one brother, Donald and wife Janet Nichols of Gilpin, TWP, Pa.; two sisters, Eileen and husband Al Eshelman of Hyde Park, Pa., and Donna and husband Don Garber of New Castle, Ohio; a granddaughter, Anna Grace Tomlin; and two grandsons, Jacob Berry Tomlin and Joshua Brent Tomlin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Members of Riverside Police Department, Police Chief Gilbert Norman, Officer Eddie Adams, Officer Danny Harper, Officer Mike Burdett, Officer Lester Quillians and Officer Jim Kuerjzeski, will serve as pallbearers.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Southern Care Hospice or to the charity of your choice.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

JOHN C. CANTONE

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for John C. Cantone, 58, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Lineville with Billy East officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Lineville.

Mr. Cantone died Dec. 3 at his residence. He was a native of Cleburne County, grew up in Long Island, N.Y., and had lived in Clay County since 1979. He was a master plumber and gas fitter for Hardy Corporation in Birmingham, was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Marine Corp and was a Catholic by faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Philip F. Cantone; one sister, Harriet Patricia Weber and one brother, Philip Cantone Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Kelly Cantone of Lineville; three sons, Dennis Cantone of Moody, Tommy Cantone of Centerpoint and John J. Cantone of Ashland; his mother, Margaret Gwendolyn Vice Cantone of Remlap; one sister, Carol Marie MacLennan of Lebanon, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

The family will accept flowers and memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clay County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday to 8 p.m. and until service time Saturday.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

RICHARD McELRATH

SYLACAUGA — Richard McElrath, 42, died Dec. 4 in Sylacauga.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Madden's Funeral Home.

JOHN HENRY NORTHCUTT

HARPERSVILLE — Funeral service for John Henry Northcutt, 74, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg chapel with the Rev. William Rayfield and the Rev. Darrell Green officiating. Burial will be in Harpersville Cemetery.

Mr. Northcutt died Dec. 3 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. He served in the military.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Northcutt of Harpersville; two daughters, Debbie Northcutt of Vincent and Kim Allen and her husband Red of Harpersville; two brothers, Pete Northcutt of Alabaster and Ray Northcutt of New York; three sisters, Mae Crumpton of Pell City, Christine Howard of Arizona and Sarah Jean Harvan of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Brianna Northcutt, Ashley Allen and Jay Allen; one great-grandchild, Gavin (Ducky) Cleveland and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Paul Northcutt, Ricky Northcutt, Roger Northcutt, Brent Northcutt and Tim Roy.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.
