Kenneth Cameron Newman
Jackson resident and native Texan, Kenneth Cameron Newman, passed away at the Mobile Infirmary in the early morning hours of Dec. 26, 2006 after a protracted battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in 1925 in Floresville, Texas in the heart of the Hill Country, Mr. Newman served his country proudly as a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Although he was stationed around the world during his 20 plus years of service during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, it was his assignment in the late 1940s at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. that changed his life as that was when he met his future wife of 58 years, Mary Blanche Deas.
Mr. Newman made his home in Jackson since 1975 where he worked at various positions with the city government, most notably with the water department. He was a proud father of two even prouder sons, Mark A. Newman, formerly of New York City, N.Y. and recently of Gulf Shores and David C. Newman of Bedford, Texas.
Mr. Newman is survived by his wife, Mary D. Newman of Jackson; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Newman and grandson, Kristopher Newman, both of Bedford. He is also survived by two brothers, Ellis Newman of Kerrville, Texas and Don Newman of Las Vegas, Nev. and a sister, Willette Jerden of Austin, Texas, not to mention brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and scores of devoted friends and loved ones who will always remember Mr. Newman as a man who led an exemplary and honorable life and who will be remembered for his priceless and endearing sense of humor.
A visitation was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 29 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at McCann’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Jackson where Mr. Newman was an active member. The Rev. Earl Watson and the Rev. Joe McKinney officiated.
