Clyde Edward Bailey
Clyde Edward Bailey, 61, died March 11, 2007 at a veterans' hospital in Montgomery. He was a native and resident of St. Stephens. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Vietname War. He was selfemployed in the construction business.
Survivors include his son, Michael Bailey of Tibbie; daughter, Linda Bailey Gates of St. Stephens, four grandchildren, Caleb Bailey of Tibbie and Ethan Gates, Logan Gates and Dylan Gates, all of St. Stephens.
The funeral service will be Thursday, (today) March 15, 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Revs. Mike Loper and Jimmy Butts officiating. Interment will be in the Clearwater Cemetery.
Dorothy Louise Guy
Dorothy Louise "Sadie" Guy, a native and resident of Chatom, died March 6, 2007 at an area health care facility. A homemaker and member of Reynolds Holiness Church in Chatom, she was 73.
She is survived by a brother, the Rev. Wilson Reynolds of Chatom; four sisters, the Rev. Carrie Smith, Doris Grinstead and Margaret Stoker, all of Chatom and Diane Reynolds of Marrero, La. and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was March 9 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom. Burial was in the Reynolds Church Cemetery
in Chatom.
Erma Ruth Harris
Erma Ruth Harris, 74, a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Leroy, died March 9, 2007 in a Mobile hospital. She was a native of Washington County and a resident of Wagarville.
Survivors include two sons, Percy W. Harris Jr. and John W. Harris, both of Jackson; daughter, Margaret A. Reeves of Leroy; five brothers, J.D. McCulley and Henry McCulley, both of Fairhope, Richard McCulley of Irvington and Horace McCulley and Roy McCulley, both of Wagarville; four sisters, Doris Nichols of Wagarville, Jeanette Vanscoder of Michigan, Sherry Henson of Texas and Valerie Lankford of Louisiana and six grandchildren.
The funeral service was March 12 in the First Baptist Church of Leroy with the Rev. James Watkins officiating. Interment was in the Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery
with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing. Jewel Dee McCloskey Jewel Dee McCloskey, a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, died March 7, 2007 at a local health care facility at the age of 79. A native of Winn and a resident of Jackson, she was a retired waitress for McVay's Dairy Freeze.
She is survived by a brother, Tollie McCloskey of Winn; sister, Keeble Bumpers of Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was March 10 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Newton officiating. Interment was in the Winn Community Cemetery
with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.
Pallbearers were Ray Bedwell, Chris Butts, David Lowder, John F. Moseley Sr. and Alvin W. Rivers.
Orra Nanette Melvin
Orra Nanette Melvin, a retired inspector for Cam Manufacturing in Chatom, died March 11, 2007 in Chatom at the age of 88. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chatom.
Survivors include three daughters, Joy Beech and Jean Moseley, both of Chatom and Joan F. Lomax of Fruitdale; sister, Maude McClinton of Chatom; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was March 13 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial was in the Chatom Cemetery.
Louie Crenshaw Wilson
Louie Crenshaw Wilson, 91, died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at his residence in Leroy. A native of Clarkesville, he was a man of many trades and talents, including working for the Corp of Engineers, Vanity Fair, a merchant, a cattleman and was in the timber business. He was chairman of the Farmer's Co-operative and was instrumental in bringing the Washington County Hospital to Chatom and Allied Paper to Jackson. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Leroy.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Caroline Rebecca "Callie" L. Wilson of Leroy; three sons, Dr. Louie Cecil (Gail) Wilson of Mobile, Ronald Alexander (Merilyn) Wilson of Grove Hill and Larry Watson (Sandra) Wilson of Leroy; daughter, Julia Wilson (David) Middleton of Saraland; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was March 14 at the First Baptist Church of Leroy. Interment was in the Old Leroy Baptist Cemetery
in Leroy with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Richard Raymond Callen
Richard Raymond Callen, 92, died March 9, 2007 at a hospital in Mobile. An electrician, he was a member of the Electrician Local No. 136 in Birmingham and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBW) for more than 50 years. He was a Mason of the Five Points King Solomon Lodge No. 897 in Birmingham. A member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Wagarville, he was an avid farmer and fisherman.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia C. Strickland of Birmingham; three sons, James Lee (Earlene) Callen of Wagarville, Richard Raymond Callen III of Estill Springs, Tenn. and William Porter Callen of Trussville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was March 13 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Wagarville with Bro. George Weaver and Bro. Donald Phillips officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Mike Dickey, Clint Dickey, Seth Dickey, Gene Taylor, Ray Roney and Jerry Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers were Aubrey Kelly, Douglas Tarver, Doug Flowers and Robert Wilder.
Mickel Jennings
Mickel Jennings, a native of Kentucky and a resident of Millry, died March 11, 2007 in his home at the age of 59. He was a construction worker specializing in basement waterproofing.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Jennings of St. Stephens; two daughters, Lorinda Jennings and Amber Jennings, both of St. Stephens; son, Melvin Jennings of Millry; two brothers, Leroy Jennings and Lon Jennings, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and one grandson.
A memorial service was conducted at Millry Baptist Church on March 14 with Bro. Billy Kendrick officiating and St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.
Rufus Curtis
Rufus "Bott" Curtis, a native of Morvin and former resident of Mt. Vernon, died March 10, 2007 at the Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Birmingham at the age of 76. A member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Morvin, he was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Wicks Curtis and William Burl Curtis.
Survivors include five brothers, James (Alberta) Curtis of Lawrenceville, Ga., William Earl Curtis of Saraland, the Rev. George (Inez) Curtis of McIntosh, John Walter (Mary) Curtis of Neptune, N.J. and Samuel Payne Curtis of Asberry Park, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Earlee Curtis of Morvin and Bobbi Curtis of Eight Mile.
The funeral service will be Saturday, March 17, 12 noon at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Fuller, pastor and eulogist. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Andrews Funeral Home directing.
Dorothy B. Gardner Bumpers
Dorothy Belle Gardner Bumpers, a resident of Winn, died March 9, 2007 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery at the age of 65. She retired after 25 years in the facilitate maintenance department at Boise. A member of the Berry's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, she served on the Usher Board, Oltha Thomas Choir, class leader, assistant secretary for the Sunday School department, president of the Home Missionary and WH and OM Society and the Culinary Committee.
She is survived by three daughters, Joann (Broderick) Heard, Alice Jenkins and Ronessa (Charles) Sellers, all of Montgomery; a son, Leonard Bumpers of Detroit, Mich.; stepdaughter, Alice Jackson of Montgomery; sister, Nellie Driver of Brent; a brother, Earlie (Clara) Gardner of Maplesville; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon funeral hour at Berry's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Winn. Burial will be in the Bumpers Cemetery
in Winn with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.
Willie Council Jr.
Willie Council Jr., 70, a resident of Choctaw Bluff, died March 8, 2007 in Mobile.
He is survived by a daughter, Dina (Alphonse) Bradford of Prichard; five brothers, Bennie (Helen) Council, Herny (Barbara) Council and Curtis Council, all of Choctaw Bluff, Lloyd Council of Stateline, Miss. and Flenard (Brenda) Council of Offreeport, Ill.; four sisters, Johnice (James) Porter and Catherine Collins, both of Mobile, Teanna Martin of Jackson and Mary Lee Parker of Freeport, Ill.
The funeral service was March 14 at the Church of God Pentecostal in Choctaw Bluff. Interment was in the New Canaan Cemetery
in Choctaw Bluff with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.
