William K. Sykes
William K. "Bill" Sykes, 81, a native of Crystal Springs, Miss. and a resident of Orange Beach and formerly of Jackson, died April 9, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and World War II where he served as a B-17 bomber pilot. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, he was a safety director of Marquette Cement for 12 years. He later moved to Jackson where he was the safety director for Ciba-Geigy, retiring in 1981. He was a Dixie League coach for 17 years. Upon moving to the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores area, he organized Us Too International, a prostate cancer support group sponsored by the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center and Dr. William Hixon. He received several local and statewide proclamations for his leadership in prostate cancer awareness. A member of the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores and the Andrew J. Cooper Sunday School Class for men, he was preceded in death by his parents, Eva D. and Max Sykes.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Robbie Ann B. Sykes of Orange Beach; two daughters, Susan E. (Jim) Drury of Montgomery and Victoria A. (John) Mixon of Orange Beach; son, William K. "Kenney" (Susan) Sykes of Key West, Fla.; brother, Vernon Sykes of Jackson, Miss. and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, April 13, 10 a.m. at Gulf Shores First Baptist Church with Mack Funeral Home and Crematory in Robertsdale directing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Ezell Adams
Ezell Adams, a retired operator in the lab at Ciba-Geigy, died April 4, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army and was 86.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel Adams and Sandy Adams, both of McIntosh; daughter, Sandra Jackson of Axis; two sisters, Etoria Toole and Myrtle Brown, both of McIntosh.
The funeral service will be Saturday, April 14, 2 p.m. at the Church of God Deliverance in McIntosh. Viewing will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be in the Vaughn Cemetery
in McIntosh with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.
Champion Jackson Jr.
Champion Jackson Jr., 58, a resident of Rockville, died April 6, 2007 at a hospital in Gulfport, Miss. He was a saw operator for C.E. Harrell.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Jackson of Jackson; mother, Anna Mae Jackson of Jackson; daughter, Cathy Jackson of Jackson; four sons, Jimmy (Linda) Jackson, Glover Jackson, Frank Jackson and Charlie (Deandrea) Jackson, all of Jackson; seven sisters, Shirley Bush, Vicki (Clint) Brown, Mary Jackson and Mary English, all of Jackson, Cynthia Chapman of Moss Point, Miss., Mattie (Raymond) Williams of Sunflower and Darlene (Barry) Wilson of Whatley; mother-in-law, Evaline Sims of Jackson and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 13 from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 14, at Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Annie Ree Steele
Annie Ree Steele, a native of Marengo County and a resident of Jackson, died April 10, 2007 at Jackson Health Care Facility at the age of 69. A member of the Star of Zion A.M.E. Church in Jackson, she was a retired cafeteria worker at Jackson Middle School.
She is survived by one daughter, Janice Caves of Jackson; four sons, Charles (Judith) Steele, Spencer Steele, Rodney (Amy) Steele and Fredrick Steele, all of Jackson; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Sunday, April 15, 1:30 p.m. at Star of Zion A.M.E. Church in Jackson. Viewing will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Sidney Chapel A.M.E. Zion Cemetery

Enoch Thomas
Enoch Thomas, 55, a native of Jackson and a resident of Chicago, Ill., died April 3, 2007 at his home following an illness. He was a .member of the Jackson A.O.H. Church and graduated from Jackson High School in 1972. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle M16 Marksmanship Badge. He was employed as a brakeman for the railroad in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Thomas Sr. and two sisters, Rosie Wiggins and Maritha Brown.
Survivors include his mother, Elder Floree Thomas of Jackson; daughter, Caroline M. (Steven) Ray of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five brothers, Andrew (Linda Carol) Thomas and Sam Thomas, both of Detroit, Mich., Willie (Dorothy) Thomas, Tommie (Ella Mae) Tate and Matthew Doss, all of Jackson; three sisters, Equilla (Clifford) Gee of Chicago, Deborah McGee of Detroit and Deloris (Leonard) Beck of Jackson; two grandchildren, Karolynne K. Ray and Steven Roy III, both of Kalamazoo; two aunts an uncle and two special friends.
The funeral service was April 9 at the Jackson A.O.H. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directing.
Pallbearers were Alfred Pickens, Larry O'Neal Pernell, Willie Hicks, Pressley Robinson, the Rev. Douglas Pernell and Floyd King.
Judith Ann Wilson
Judith Ann Wilson, 62, a homemaker and resident of Jackson, died April 14, 2007. She was a native of Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis Wilson of Jackson; stepdaughter, Elizabeth DeShay Wilson of Jackson; stepson, Timothy Wilson of Jackson; four brothers, Richard Krawitz of Colorado, George Krawitz and Bobby Krawitz, both of San Antonio, Texas and Michael Krawitz of Hemet, Calif.; two grandchildren, A.J.Wilson and Renee Wilson, both of Jackson.
The funeral service was April 17 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Interment was in the Antioch Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers were A.J. Wilson, Marty Wilson, Spencer Smith, Chris Harrell, Ashley Harrell and Lloyd Wilson.
Honorary pallbearer was Van Wilson.
Lon Beech
Lon Beech, 85, a native and resident of Chatom, died April 17, 2007 in a Mobile hospital. A retired yard foreman for Forest Products Co., he was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church in Chatom.
Survivors include a daughter, Adriann (Sam) Loper of Chatom and caregiver and special friend, Brenda Leverett of Chatom.
The funeral service was April 19 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with Dr. Paul Petcher and Edward Moss officiating. Interment was in the Springbank Baptist Cemetery
in Chatom.
Pallbearers were Leonard Thompson, Perry Dickey, Randy Shipp, Norvelle Jones, Jimmy Ferguson and Brad Ferguson.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Whitsett, Perry Dearmon, Burnell Godwin, Henry Loper Jr. and Lewis Kirksey.
Peggy McLendon Bolen
Peggy McLendon Bolen, 92, a native and resident of Jackson, died April 26, 2007 at her home. She was a retired seamstress for Vanity Fair Mills where she was employed for 43 years.
Survivors include her son, Marlin (Carreen) Bolen of Jackson; three grandsons, Leigh, Keith and Daron Bolen, all of Jackson and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was April 27 at Forest Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Rushing officiating. Burial was in Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forest Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund.
Ernest Nolen Bryant
Ernest Nolen Bryant, 82, of Spanish Fort died April 21, 2007 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 31, 1924 in Lawrence County, Tenn. A member of Grove Hill Baptist Church, he was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion and a retired pine sales manager at Scotch Lumber Company in Fulton.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Augzell Bryant, Spanish Fort; one son, Jerry (Mary Lynn) Bryant, La Grange, Ga.; one daughter, Angie (Tom) Waters of Spanish Fort; two sisters, Betty Hassell, Chapel Hill, Tenn., Marie Harris, Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.; grandchildren, Christy (Rick) Jones, Decatur, Ga., Wesley (Katharine) Bryant, Mobile, Hannah and Joshua Dunn, Spanish Fort; one great-grandchild, Jackson Bryant, Mobile; nephews, nieces and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Allen Bryant and Michael Lyons Bryant.
The service was April 24 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Burial was at the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery
in Grove Hill.
