Claudia Lillian Dolbear

Claudia Lillian Dolbear died April 25, 2007 at her home at the age of 92. A native and resident of Jackson, she was a homemaker and a member of Peniel Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Polly Hudson of Mexia, Geraldine Rynders and Patsy Counselman, both of Jackson and Vergie Smith of Coffeeville; 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was April 26 at Peniel Baptist Church with the Revs. Shannon Moses and Marion Ball officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Mildred Clay Huggins

Mildred Clay Huggins, 86, died May 1, 2007 in Marion, Miss. She was a native of Whatley and a resident of Grove Hill. A member of the Whatley United Methodist Church, the Clarke County Historical Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5106 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 116, she was a retired librarian for the town of Grove Hill. She was preceded in death by husband, Leonard Huggins.

Survivors include a son, Col. Alfred C. Rivers of Mentone, Calif.; two daughters, Virginia H. Reeves of Leroy and Janet Huggins of Grove Hill; sister, Lorene Mitchell of Birmingham; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4 until the time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Interment will be in the Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.

Clarence Lavell Jones

Clarence Lavell Jones, a member of Tibbie Baptist Church and a Vietname War veteran, died April 30, 2007 at a Washington County hospital at the age of 59. He was a native of Waynesboro, Miss. and a resident of Tibbie. An automobile salesman prior to becoming disabled, he was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Clarence Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Delmarter Jones of Tibbie; three daughters, Janna Jones of Mobile, Tanya (Daniel) Jordan of Waynesboro, Miss. and Christy Grimes of Tibbie; son, Gregg Jones of Tibbie and four grandchildren, McKenzie Grimes, Maci Jones, Hannah Jordan and Gentrey Jordan.

The funeral will be Thursday, May 3, (today) 11 a.m. at Tibbie Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Brown officiating. Interment will be in Tibbie Baptist Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom directing.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Fund at Tibbie Baptist Church, P.O. Box 21, Tibbie, AL 36583.

Susie Mae Campbell LaFlore

Susie Mae Campbell LaFlore, 91, a native of Pine Hill and a resident of Grove Hill, died at a local hospital on April 29, 2007. She was a former manager for the Clarke County Museum employed by the Clarke County Historical Commission. Retired from accounting, she was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church and the Elizabeth Bradford Chapter of DAR.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen LaFlore of Houston, Texas; four brothers, James (Bernice) Campbell and Gerald Campbell, both of Grove Hill, Arnold Campbell of Dothan and Bennie Campbell of Columbia, Tenn.; sister, Edna (Bobby) Tarleton of Grove Hill; faithful companion, Tootsie Bichon Frise; 26 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Thursday, May 3 (today) at 2 p.m. at the Grove Hill Baptist Church and the Rev. David Curtis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Grove Hill directing.

Clara Louise Liesen

Clara Louise Liesen, 82, died April 27, 2007 in a health care facility in Meridian, Miss. A native and resident of Dickinson, she was a retired licensed practical nurse, involved with HealthActions before her illness. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Thomasville.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Liesen of Dickinson; five brothers, Bonner Wiggins Jr. of Monroeville, J.T. Wiggins, Jerry Wiggins and Steve Wiggins, all of Dickinson and Ellis Wiggins of Jackson; and two sisters, Geraldine Powell of Citronelle and Vera Davenport of Gulf Shores.

The funeral was May 1 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Interment was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Unit of the Sisters of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, P. O. Box 1, Downson, Ind.

Vera Lee Price

The funeral service for Vera Lee Price, 63, was May 2 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom. Burial was in the Springbank Baptist Cemetery in Chatom.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Moss, Doyle Moss, Gaylon Gibson, Ralph Morris, Cliff Waddell and Ron Longergan.

Mrs. Price, a native of Mississippi and a resident of Chatom, was a member of Chatom Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Joe L. Price of Chatom; brother, Francis Scoggins of Bladon Springs; three sisters, Lucille McClinton of Newton, Miss., Leona DeRosier of Pachuta, Miss. and Evelyn Coxwell of Rachuta, Miss.

Mildred Christine Slayton

Mildred Christine Slayton, 95, died April 22, 2007 at the Meadows Assisted Living Facility in Jackson. Affectionately known as "Aunt Tine", she was a native of Jackson.

A 1935 graduate of Auburn University, she taught school in Gainestown and Fulton before returning to Jackson. She was a former bookkeeper for Slayton Oil and Recapping Company. In 1964, she opened Slayton's Gift Shop which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson where she held the honor of being a member for the longest number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lizzie Slayton, and six brothers.

Surviving are a niece, Janice Slayton (Perry) Douglas of Olive Branch, Miss.; a nephew, Eddie (Linda) Slayton of Grove Hill and other nieces and nephews; four special great-nephews, Eddie Douglas of Warner-Robbins, Ga., Carey Slayton of Jackson, Scott Slayton of Parrish, Andy Slayton of Wetumpka and other relatives.

The funeral was April 25 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating. Burial was in Pine Crest Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Harry Harrell, Jody McArdle, Carey Slayton, Jim Slayton, Scott Slayton and Larry York.

Peggy Lowery Thornton

Peggy Joyce Lowery Thornton, 75, a native of Bessemer and a resident of Chatom, died at an area hospital April 29, 2007. Retired, she was a former secretary at Kershaw Manufacturing Company and a member of Springbank Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, E.E. "Buddy" Thornton of Chatom; son, Ken W. Thornton of St. Stephens; daughter, Pamela T. Johnson of Millbrook; two sisters, Nina Van Dyke of Atlanta, Ga. and Susie Finley of Birmingham; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral was May 2 at Springbank Baptist Church in Chatom with the Rev. Ricky Revette officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom directing.

Pallbearers were Justin Thornton, Steven Silveria, Michael Silveria, Jason Johnson, Max Herring, Brian Herring and Roy Thornton.

Joanne W. Wilson

Joanne W. Wilson, 59, a resident of Jackson and a native of Lee County, died April 29, 2007 at a local hospital.

Wilson was the founder and owner of Wilson Real Estate and Appraisal Service which was established in 1978. For the past 20 years, she and her husband raised thoroughbred horses, named Tombigbee Thoroughbreds, on their farm in Jackson. She was a member of Four Seasons Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, John Russell "J.R" Wilson of Jackson; daughter, Jodi (Spencer) Walker of Jackson; son Joshua (Christy) Wilson of McIntosh; mother, Jean Cabay of Jackson; two brothers, John Harold Johnson and Randall Johnson, both of Opelika; nephew, Mark Peterson and four grandchildren.

The private graveside funeral was May 1 at Pine Crest Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing. ANDREWS FUNERAL HOME
