Rev. Thomas Fox Sr.

The Rev. Thomas Fox Sr., 83, a native of the Rockville community of Jackson and resident of Jackson, died Aug. 19, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Alice Bumpers Fox and Fortune Fox Sr. Fox was retired from Boise Cascade and was a bus driver for 18 years in the Clarke County Board of Education Transportation Department. A World War II veteran of the United States Army, he received the Meritorious Unit Award, the Good Conduct, APTO and the World War II Victory medals. He served as a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Faith for more than 52 years, a pastor for approximately 30 years. Churches under his pastorate include: Antioch, Gainestown; Mt. Horeb, Allen; Wayman Chapel, Suggsville, St. John, Lower Peachtree and Good Hope AME Church, Gainestown.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Fannie Bracy Fox of Jackson; one son, the Rev. Thomas Fox Jr. of Jackson; five daughters, Sadie (Robert L.) Fox-Worthy of Raeford, N.C., Jualdene Fox of Augusta, Ga., Lorraine (Jerry) Armstead, Emily M. Fox-Smith and Victoria (the Rev. Hurley) James, all of Jackson; two brothers, Amos (Elizabeth) Fox of Mobile and Elvin (Sophia) Fox of Jackson; five sisters, Wilcy Mae Boykin of Jackson, Erma Golston, Alice Taylor and Ilry Wells, all of Mobile and Ada Rowland of Alma; five sistersin law, Henrietta Fox, Earsell Fox, Mary Booker, Ernestine Bracy and Ethel Hannah; 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is today, Thursday, Aug. 23, 6-9 p.m. at Antioch AME Church. Officiating will be Pastors Robert Taylor, Thomas Fox Jr. and Hurley James, ministers Nicholas Jackson, Terence Armstead and Eddie Tobias James. The funeral service is Friday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m. at Antioch African Methodist Episcopal Church of Gainestown. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. There will be military rites at the graveside with burial in the New St. Matthew Baptist Cemetery in the Lily Valley community of Jackson. Arrangements are being directed by Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson.

Marion 'Lewis' Daugherty

Marion "Lewis" Daugherty, a native and resident of McIntosh, died Aug. 21, 2007 at his residence. He was a millwright, a member of Local 89 and a member of McIntosh United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his mother, Marie Williams Daugherty.

Survivors include his father, Armond B. (Dot) Daugherty of Elberta; two sons, Marion B. (Kim) Daugherty of McIntosh and J. Scott Daugherty of Eight Mile; a daughter, Kim (Jason) Syron of McIntosh; brother, Jimmy (Betty Jo) Daugherty of McIntosh; sister, Sheila (Doug) Daugherty Graham of Elberta; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Savannah, Natalee and Mikalah.

Funeral services were Aug. 25 at the McIntosh United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Services were directed by Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson.

Donnie Lou Downey

Donnie Lou Downey, a native of Choctaw County and a resident of Calvert, died Aug. 22, 2007, at the age of 56 at his family residence. He was an operator for Teledyne Brown Engineering in Grove Hill and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Ellisville, Miss.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy P. Downey of Calvert; daughter, Brenda Elizabeth Downey of Deer Park; three brothers, Louie Dale Downey of Calvert, James Woodie Overstreet of Mobile and Joseph Glover Overstreet of Sunflower; a sister, Anna Marie Downey of Daphne.

Funeral services were at the Sunflower United Methodist Church in Sunflower on Aug. 25 with interment in the Old Lusk Cemetery in Choctaw County. Arrangements were directed by Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sunflower United Methodist Church.

Wilma Atchison Britton

Wilma Atchison Britton died Aug. 28, 2007 at her residence in Chickasaw at the age of 95. A native of Kentucky, she was a former resident of St. Stephens. She was a retired cashier with Delchamps, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Stephens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Atchison; parents, Lilly and Ulis Bratcher; son, James Estil Atchison Sr. and daughter-in-law, Ruth C. Atchison.

Surviving are two daughters, Margie (Edward) Dempsey of St. Stephens and Peggy (Tilford) Lankford of Chickasaw; stepbrother, Robert Sykes of Morgantown, Ky.; sister, Evelyn (Charles) Wade of Portland, Tenn.; stepsister, Irene Jennings of Estil Springs, Tenn.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral at noon in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Interment will be in the First Baptist Church of St. Stephens Cemetery.

Patrecia G. Dunegan

Patrecia G. Dunegan, 59, a native of Mobile and a resident of Coffeeville, died Aug. 23, 2007 in a Mobile hospital. She was a member of the West Bend Baptist Church in West Bend.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Dunegan of Coffeeville; a son, Rory Dunegan of Coffeeville; four stepsons, Eugene Dunegan of Jackson, Greg Dunegan of Grove Hill, Barry Dunegan of Indiana and Byron Dunegan of Sunflower; daughter, Leigh Ann McHaney of Scyrene; two stepdaughters, Melinda Stacey of Creola and Anita Kay Cartee of Coffeeville; one sister; and 17 grandchildren.

The funeral was Aug. 25 at Ulcanush Baptist Church in Coffeeville with the Rev. Jesse Griffin officiating. Interment was in the West Bend Baptist Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Eugene Dunegan, Greg Dunegan, Byron

Jamaal Tremayne Barnes

Jamaal Tremayne Barnes, 29, a resident of Jackson, died Aug. 22, 2007 in a car accident in Cortez, Colo. He was employed as a remediation technician for WRS Construction Company.

Surviving are his mother, Johnetta (Lee) Starling of Jackson; father, Jerome (Gladys) Jones of Jackson; two sons, Tremayne K. McCaster and Tyes J. McReynolds, both of Jackson; two brothers, James Starling Jr. of Jackson and Marsha Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sisters, Danielle Starling of Huntsville, Tiffany Jones and Stephanie Jones of Fayetteville, N.C. and Peaches Jones of Birmingham; grandmother, Laura Barnes of Jackson and grandfather, Thad Jones Jr. of Jackson.

The funeral will be at noon, Saturday, Sept. 1 at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Belinda Faye Lee

Belinda Faye Lee, 52, a resident of Jackson, died Aug. 25, 2007 at a nursing home in Eight Mile.

She is survived by her adoptive mother, Dortha Mae Jackson of Jackson; a son, Luther Lee of Jackson; daughter, Sharita Lee of Jackson; six sisters, Loretta Lee, Bessie Lee and Ivet Lee, all of Mobile, Kittrell Barnes and Phyliss Jones, both of Jackson, Alexandia Morris of Tennessee; eight brothers, L.C. Crowell and Luther Crowell Jr, both of Jackson, Ronnie Crowell of South Carolina, Tim Peratter of Gaston, Willie Crowell of Houston, Texas, David E. Lee and Winston Crowell of Pittsburg, Penn. and Ralph Nix of Walker Springs; stepmother, Alma Crowell of Jackson; stepfather, Earl Lee of Leroy and two grandchildren.

The funeral was Aug. 29 in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Alexander File Sr.

Alexander File Sr., 55, a resident of Thomasville and a native of Fulton, died Aug. 26, 2007 at his residence. He was born Feb. 2, 1952. He served nine years in the military and was a former employee of Lowman Power Plant in Leroy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Geraldo File.

Survivors include a son, Renaldo File of Jackson; four daughters, Glendoria File of Repton, Natascha (Raymond) L. File- Patterson of Millington, Tenn, Sonya File of Jackson and Tonia File of Livingston; two sisters, Lucille Dixon of Fulton and Bernice Brown of Grove Hill; a brother, Lewis Brown of Thomasville; four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 1 at Lily Baptist Church in Fulton with the Rev. James Barganier officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service. Burial will be at the Liberty Cemetery with Reese Funeral Home directing.

Maurice Virginia Hicks

Maurice Virginia Hicks died Aug. 31, 2007 at her residence in Jackson at the age of 86. A longtime resident of Jackson, she was a native of Millry. She was a retired sales clerk and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson.

Surviving are her husband, Marshall W. Hicks of Jackson; son, Bill (Judy) Hicks of Roswell, Ga.; three daughters, Glenda (Wardell) Joye of Mobile, Judith (Larry) Quebedeaux of Citronelle and Vickie (Terry) Harrison of Jackson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The graveside service was Sept. 2 in the Chatom Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Brunson officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Terry Harrison, Russell Harrison, Ryan Harrison, William Harper, Kenny Reeves and Brian Gentle.

Van Thomas Richardson

Van Thomas "Big Daddy" Richardson, 78, died Sept. 2, 2007 at his residence in Malcolm. He was a native of Frankville, a member of Malcolm Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War Conflict. A retired electrician, he worked at Olin Chemical Corp. for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Powell Richardson of Malcolm; two sons, Ricky (Puggin) Richardson of Malcolm, Riley (Angie) Richardson of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, Charles S. (Laurie) Powell Jr. of Cadiz, Ky; daughter, Beverly (Doug) McCormick of Myrtle Beach, S. C.; brother, Sammy (Irma) Richardson of Loxley; two sisters, Mary F. (Boykin) Turner of Malcolm and Betty R. Allen of Monroeville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;

The funeral was Sept. 5 at Malcolm Baptist Church with Dr. Herbert Collier officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Memorials may be made to Pure Water for Missionaries at Malcolm Baptist Church, P. O. Box 38, Malcolm. Al. 36556.
