George Franklin Rish

George Franklin Rish, 85, died Aug. 30, 2007 at his residence in Grove Hill. Anative of Abbeville, he was a retired agricultural engineer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Services, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force as a Tech. Sgt. His church membership was at the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Owassa.

Surviving are his wife, Jewel Rish of Grove Hill; daughter, Linda Rish of Grove Hill; son Robert (Wanda) Rish of Thomasville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Sept. 1 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with the Rev. Huie Denton officiating. Interment was in the Mathews section of the Grove Hill Cemetery.

Ralph Vale Zepp

Ralph Vale Zepp, 85, a longtime resident of Jackson and a native of Pekin, Iowa, died Sept. 1, 2007 at Providence Hospital.

Following his service in World War II where he was a paratrooper in the 13th Airborne Division, he attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering. His working career was spent in the paper industry, coming to Jackson as executive vice president and general manager of Allied Paper (now Boise).

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the administration board for many years. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Boys Scouts and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Belle Hayes Zepp, father, John Elbert Zepp, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Foote Zepp of Jackson; daughter, Ann (Tom) Brabston of Mobile; son, Ralph H. (Betsy) Zepp of Natchitoches, La.; sister, Margery Dillon of Hedrick, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Melanie Zepp Ridinger, Ryan Zepp, Meridith Zepp, Meghan Brabston, Will Brabston and Anna Brabston.

The funeral was Sept. 4 at the First United Methodist Church of Jackson with the Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating. Burial was in Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were James G. DeWitt, Anthony Jackson, Forrest Johnson, Robert Lowe, Michael Whitehead and John Winters. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Hoven, Slay Hudson, Sam Miller, M.C. Plummer, John P. Johnson and Charles Stadlander.

Tommie Lee Tate Sr.

Tommie Lee Tate Sr., 69, a native of Woodsbluff and a resident of Jackson, died Aug. 30, 2007 at his home. He was born to the parentage of Elder Floree Thomas of Jackson and the late Gussie L. Tate.

A graduate of Harper High School, he served in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Pvt. 2 (P). He retired from Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Mich.

Surviving are his wife, Ella Mae Tate of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Ann (Mike) Baldin of San Diego; four sons, Bennie (Cheryl) Tate of San Diego, Gussie (Renecia) Tate of Victorville, Calif. and Tommie (Lily) Tate Jr. of Rialto, Calif. and James (Antoinette) Tate of Los Angeles, Calif.; mother, Elder Floree Thomas of Jackson; five brothers, Andrew (Linda) Thomas Jr. and Samuel Thomas, both of Detroit, Matthew Doss, Willie (Dorothy) Thomas, both of Jackson and Tommie (Agnes) Tate of Orlando, Fla.; five sisters, Deloris (Leonard) Beck of Jackson, Deborah McGee of Detroit, Equilla (Clifford) Gee of Chicago, Ill., Lee Helen Foreman of Mobile and Johnnie Mae Brown of Panama City, Fla.; two aunts, Lizzie Jackson and Margaret (Ross) Thomas, both of Jackson; uncle, Elder Frank (Annie M.) Thomas of Zimco; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home and again on Friday, Sept 7 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2:30. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery with military services at graveside.

Thelma Roney

Thelma Roney, 98, a native and resident of Wagarville, died Aug. 29, 2007 at Washington County Nursing Home. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are two daughters, Gladys Lankford of Wagarville and Betty Anderson of Hobson; two sons, Houston Roney and Ralph Roney, both of Wagarville; brother, Paul Roney of Chatom; 35 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and numerous great-greatgrandchildren.

The funeral was Sept. 1 at Clearwater Assembly of God Church in Wagarville with the Revs. Jimmy Butts, Oliver Koen and Glen Sullivan officiating. Interment was at the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Bo Roney, Jackie Collins, Jimmy Roney, Terry Anderson, Rickey Roney and Ray Lankford.

Honorary pallbearers were John Keith, Timmy Lankford, Perry Lankford, Donnie Anderson, Bradley Vice and Phil Lankford.

Anthony Wayne Atchison

Anthony Wayne Atchison, 56, a native and resident of Salitpa, died Aug. 27, 2007. He was a painter and sandblaster.

He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Renae Stitcher of DeFuniak Springs, Fla. and Shana Lynn Atchison Petty of Jackson; six brothers, Roy Atchison, Ronnie Atchison, Fred Atchison and Bobby Atchison, all of Salitpa, James Atchison and David Atchison, both of Jackson; two sisters, Florence Marie Faircloth and Nancy Townsend, both of Salitpa; one grandson, Corey and two granddaughters, Brittney and Ashton.

The funeral was Aug. 29 at River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa with the Rev. Wilton Bennett officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Jay Bozeman, Steve Shoultz, Jeremy Shoultz, Larry Etheredge, Milton Atchison Jr., Warren Deas and Glenn Harris.

Robert Woodrow Davidson

Robert Woodrow Davidson, a native of Tibbie, died Sept. 8, 2007 at the age of 92, at his residence in Fruitdale. He was a selfemployed farmer and held the Senior Leader Award for the Alabama Farmers Federation, as well as being an officer of the Washington County Cattlemen's Association. In addition, Davidson was a beat committeeman for the Democratic Executive Committee and a member of the Four Points Baptist Church in Four Points.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Platt Davidson of Four Points; a son, Jerry Davidson of Four Points; two daughters, Faye Mills of Birmingham and Peggy Tillman of Four Points; two brothers, George Davidson Sr. of Four Points and J.T. Davidson of Vinegar Bend; two sisters, Victoria Williams and Edith Betancourt, both of Mobile; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 10 at Four Points Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Price officiating and directed by Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom. Interment was in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Four Points Baptist Church or a charity of one's choice.

Lorena Ethleen Harrison

Lorena Ethleen Etheredge Harrison, age 98, a native of Nicholsville and resident of Grove Hill, died at her residence Sept. 9, 2007. She was a member of the Grove Hill Baptist Church and a retired schoolteacher after 41 years with the Clarke County Board of Education. A graduate of the Livingston University (UWA), she was the widow of the late Vernon Harrison. Mrs. Harrison enjoyed making ceramics and reading as long as she was able. She was the last surviving child of Lee and Minnie Lee Nichols Etheredge.

Survivors include son, Ronald V. (Charlotte) Harrison of Grove Hill; two grandsons, Douglas (Dianna) Harrison and Michael (Dorene) Harrison; three great-grandsons, Jacob Harrison, Caleb Harrison and Mike Harrison; and great-granddaughter, Kalee Harrison.

Funeral services were Sept. 11 at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with interment in the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill. Pallbearers were Douglas Harrison, Michael Harrison, Caleb Harrison, Harry Harrell, Russell Huggins and Larry Bumpers. Honorary pallbearers were the friends of the family.

Marvin Dean Williams

Marvin Dean Williams, 77, died Sept. 5, 2007 at a health care facility in Jackson. He was a native of Sims Chapel and a resident of Deerhead. Williams was self-employed in the construction industry and a member of the Jackson Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Williams of Deerhead; two sons, Tim Williams and Marty Williams, both of Deerhead; daughter, Dianne Pugh of St. Stephens; two sisters, Louise Patrick of Deerhead and Wanda Patrick of Calvert; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A Masonic graveside service was Sept. 7 in the Harris Cemetery in Deerhead with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Active pallbearers were Joel Williams, Jeremy Williams, Lee Pugh, Brad Pugh, Dewayne Looper and Jonathon Maygher.

Erline L. Carter

Erline L. Carter, a retired administrative officer with First United Security Bank, died at the age of 74 on Sept. 3, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary. A native and resident of Campbell, she was a member of the Witch Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at Witch Creek Baptist Church Sept. 5 with the Revs. Curtis Thomas, John Merek and Mike Maloy officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery and services directed by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville.

Surviving are her husband, William Gaines Carter of Campbell; mother, Myrtie Toland Loper of Campbell; sister, Mae Parden of Grove Hill; brother, H.J. Loper of Thomasville; nieces, Kim McLendon and Karen Fleming; and nephews, Larry Parden, Gary Parden, Mark Mercy, Jonathan Loper and Anthony Loper.

Active pallbearers were John Loper, Anthony Loper, Mark Mercy, Stewart Hoven, Harold Hoven, Danny Hoven, John T. Carter and Will Betancourt. Honorary pallbearers were Ken McLendon, Frank Daniels, Sam Shields, S.P. Carter, Larry Parden, Gary Parden, Sidney Hoven, the employees of First United Security Bank and the members of the Witch Creek Hunting Club.
