DR. JEANNE LOUISE MORRISON

TALLADEGA — Memorial service for Dr. Jeanne Louise Morrison of 474 Terra Lane will be Tuesday at noon at DeForest Chapel on Talladega College campus. Dr. Arthur Bacon will officiate.

Dr. Jeanne Morrison passed away on Sept. 26, 2002. She is survived by sons, Steve Vasiloff, Gary Vasiloff and Rick Wagner; sister, Trisha Yaeger; brother, David Iverson; mother, Lorene Iverson and grandcildren, Joe Vasiloff, Gina Vasiloff, Nicholas Vasiloff and Andrew Vasiloff. She also leaves behind her close friend and partner Dr. Bernard Bray and her wolf-dog Freya.

Jeanne was born in Wallace, Idaho on Aug. 4, 1936. She was raised in several Western states and loved the outdoors. She earned a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of North Dakota, was professor of Psychology at Talladega College from 1970 to 2002.

Jeanne led a passionate and active life. She particularly loved her students and was able to meet them where they were in their thinking. Her sense of humor was a central element in not only her teaching but every other aspect of her life.

Jeanne also loved wildlife and wildlife habitat. She recently created a backyard habitat certified by the National Wildlife Federation. The natural habitat included native grasses and other plants. Jeanne loved good food and was an accomplished gourmet cook.

In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, contributions can be made to a scholarship fund at Talladega College in the name of Dr. Jeanne Morrison. Donations should be sent to the business office at Talladega College.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at the Talladega College Chapel.

Jeanne will be sorely missed by all she touched. She is now wild and free.

J.W. BROWN

RAGLAND — Funeral service for J.W. (Junior) Brown, 82, was Monday at Hardin's Chapel in Ragland with the Rev. Doug Ford and the Rev. Lanis White officiating. Burial was in Ragland Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Brown died Sept. 29 at his residence. He was born in Lineville on June 25, 1920, and was a resident of Ragland for the past 64 years. He retired from National Cement in Ragland with 36 years of service, was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy, and was a member of Ragland United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Hardin's Chapel, where he had served as a former deacon and song leader. He was a member of Ragland V.F.W. Post 6652. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters and a granddaughter, Leah Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Irene Brown of Ragland; six daughters, Liz Walker of Montgomery, Pat Stamps of Lincoln, Faye Broadhead of Ragland, Kathy Smith of Vincent, Kay Garrett of Straight Mountain and Debbie Armstrong of Ashville; two sons, James William (Jimmy) Brown III and Cecil Brown of Ragland; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Gamel, Johnathan Gamel, Chad Armstrong, Greg Brown, Johnny Calvin and James W. (Bubba) Brown IV.

Jeff Gamel was honorary pallbearer.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

THOMAS MILTON COLEMAN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Thomas Milton Coleman, 89, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with Pastor Jim Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Coleman died Sept. 29 at Sylacauga Health Care Center. He was a well driller for more than 25 years, was a Mason of Weogufka Lodge No. 378 for 56 years and was a member of Grimes Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Coleman of Sylacauga; daughter, Joan C. Williams and husband Sam of Sylacauga; granddaughter, Tammy W. Gardner and husband Keith of Sylacauga; grandson, Chad C. Williams and wife Lisa of Sylacauga; three great-grandchildren, Drew Gardner, Carlee Gardner and Rilee Williams; and three sisters, Laura Jennings, Dolly Ruth Hammons and Mary Jean Farr.

Pallbearers will be Cecil Bailey, Gary Jennings, Butch Jennings, Otis Jennings, Eddie Graham, Scott Arnold, Glenn Hammonds and Jerry Jennings.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Blankenship, Leslie Guy, Gene Horton and Virgil Lee Adams.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

CHARLES LAVERN GIBSON

VINCENT — Funeral service for Charles Lavern Gibson, 73, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg chapel with the Rev. Zane Smith officiating. Burial will be in Vincent Cemetery.

Mr. Gibson died Sept. 30 at his residence. He was a member of Harpersville Community Freewill Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Gibson of Vincent; two sons, Michael Lavern Gibson and wife Tammie and Thomas C. Gibson and wife Brenda, all of Vincent; three brothers, James Arthur Gibson, Grover C. Gibson and Martin F. Gibson of Vincent; three sisters, Mary Ann Huskey of Sylacauga, Bernice Murphey of Vincent and Betty Joyce Morris of Vincent; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

CECIL DEWEY GREEN SR.

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Cecil Dewey Green Sr., 56, was Monday at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Green died Sept. 27 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County, a member of the National Hot Rod Association, an avid hunter and fisherman. He was employed by Crown Textile for 33 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Green and Lillie Green; a brother, John Green; a daughter-in-law, Susan B. Green; and a grandnephew, Anthony Russell.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Green of Talladega; one daughter, Tiawana G. Lackey of Lineville; two sons, Bubba Green of Pell City and Patrick Johnson of Jackson, Miss.; one sister, Frances Owen of Lincoln; two brothers, Frank Lindsey of Big Spring, Texas, and Charles Green of Lincoln; and four granddaughters, Viranda Lackey, Carrie Lackey, Callie Green and Stephanie Green.

Pallbearers were John Curry, Bob Riley, Tim Oliver, George Landers, James Pate and Terry Ingram.

Honorary pallbearers were Cecil Hind, Eddie Haney, Art Riley, Steve Oliver and Edward Cox.

Usrey Funeral Home directed the service.

BOBBY JOE TINNEY

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Bobby Joe Tinney, 67, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Dennis Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery in Hanover.

Mr. Tinney died Oct. 1. He was married for 41 years and was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Ray Tinney; and his parents, Doss Tinney and Annie Tinney.

He is survived by his wife, Stella Tinney of Sylacauga; four daughters, Susan Bevels, Linda Lindenthaler, Barbara Faye Brown and Kathy Proctor of Sylacauga; two brothers, Billy Wayne Tinney of Atlanta, Ga., and Larry Dean Tinney of Sylacauga; one sister, Sarah Genelle Bryant of Sylacauga; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ray Proctor, Frankie Lindenthaler, Rodney Brown, Danny Brown, Tommy Tinney and Bobby Ray Glaze.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

PAUL E. DANIEL

Paul Daniel, a friend of Bill W's, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Birmingham.

He is survived by his loving wife, Constance; and three fine children, Amy, Marian and Randolph. His beloved adopted children, Coccoa, Tommy and Pepita, will miss him much also.

A funeral service will be held for Mr. Daniel on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 10 W. Walnut St., Sylacauga. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery on Talladega Highway.

The family will receive friends at the church at 9 a.m.

ROY LEONARD JOHNSTON SR.

SYLACAUGA — Memorial service for Roy Leonard Johnston Sr., 64, will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel.

Mr. Johnston died Sept. 30 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Johnston; his father, Johnny O. Johnston; his mother, Bartie J. Johnston; and two sisters, Lillian Smith and Sarah B. Burten.

He is survived by one son, Roy Johnston Jr. of Sylacauga; one daughter, Rhonda Johnston Forbus of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Joyce Smith of Sylacauga, Jeanette Higginbotham of Childersburg, Mary Jo Locklear of Phenix City and Eva Mae Whiklear; and four grandchildren, Cassie Johnston of Sylacauga, Lacee Johnston of Sylacauga, Erin Poe of Memphis, Tenn., and Ron Forbus of Memphis, Tenn.; and one great-grandson, Jeremy Poe of Memphis, Tenn.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

MELVINE S. LOWERY

WALDO — Funeral service for Melvine S. Lowery, 47, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. R.L. Morris and the Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery.

Mrs. Lowery died Sept. 30 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her father, Bert Peoples; and a son, Dan Lowery.

She is survived by her husband, Isaac David Lowery of Waldo; one son, David Wayne Lowery of Tuscaloosa; four stepdaughters, Pat of Albertville, Carolyn Fletcher of Albertville, Linda Austin of Sylacauga and Mary Jo of Albertville; one brother, Bert Davis Peoples of Sylacauga; her mother, Pauline Peoples; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Austin and Darin Fletcher.

WILLIE ELOISE MORRELL

ELBERTA — Graveside service for Willie Eloise Morrell, 94, was Tuesday in Greenhill Memorial Cemetery in Childersburg.

Mrs. Morrell died Sept. 29. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Morrell; and her daughter, Martha Hendrix Cooper.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Cheryl Blackmon of Birmingham; three great-grandchildren, John Blackmon, Rachel Blackmon and Anna Joy Blackmon of Birmingham.

Bayview Funeral Home in Foley directed the service.

BILL ROBERTS

LINCOLN — Graveside service for Bill Roberts, 87, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lincoln City Cemetery with the Rev. Lowell Ledbetter officiating.

Mr. Roberts died Sept. 30 at Citizens BMC. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lincoln, was a member and deacon of Lincoln Baptist Church. He was a longtime post master in Lincoln, was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred J. Roberts, and a daughter, Margaret Gene Caton. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama.

He is survived by one granddaughter, Ashley Caton of Jemison; and several nieces and nephews.

Deacons of Lincoln Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lincoln Baptist Church.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.
