Z.D. "Buddy" Latimer, 70, of Brierfield, died April 20, 2000. He was a member of Ashby Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Josie Latimer of Brierfield; a daughter, Sandy Kornegay and husband, Ray, of Centreville; two sons, David Latimer and wife, Kathy, of Vincent and Joe "Bobby" Latimer of Brierfield; two sisters, Mollie Bice of Brierfield and Rosie Brown of Brierfield; and two grandchildren, James David "Jim" Latimer of Livingston and Gary Wayne Latimer of Brierfield. Services were held April 22 at Ashby Baptist Church, Rev. Larry Patterson officiating. Burial was in Ashby Baptist Cemetery, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

AUBIA RAY PENNINGTON SR.

Helena resident

Aubia Ray Pennington Sr. of Helena died April 23, 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Key Pennington of Pelham; three sons, Ricky Pennington of Montevallo, Ronnie Pennington of Montevallo and Jerry Pennington of Maylene; two sisters, Rebecca Simmons of Helena and Sue Dunn of Pellham; brothers, Troy Pennington of Talladega, Johnny Pennington of Montevallo, James Pennington of Helena, Wayne Pennington of Montevallo, David Pennington of Helena and Larry Pennington of Montevallo; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 26 at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, Tim Trimble officiating. Burial was in Helena City Cemetery, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

MAY BELLE DAVIS WOODS SMITH

Montevallo resident

May Belle Davis Woods Smith, 87, of Montevallo, died April 19, 2000. She was a former resident of Birmingham, a member of The Faith Baptist Church Montevallo, where she served on the Deaconess Board and as mother of the church. She is survived by her children, Ella Alexander, Jimmy Woods, Betty Roddy, Charles Woods and Elizabeth Small; brothers and sister, Leroy Davis, Gladys Harper and Admiral Dewey Wilkins; 40 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 22 at the church, pastor William T. Evans officiating. Burial was in the Montevallo Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home directing.

EMPRESS E. WINDLE

Columbiana resident

Empress E. Windle, 80, of Columbiana, died April 4, 2000.

She is survived by her son, James A. Windle Jr. and wife, Cilla, of Dothan; and three grandchildren.

Services were held April 7 at Bolton Brown Chapel. Burial was at Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton-Brown directing.

CECIL LAMAR BLACKMON JR.

Member of Pea Ridge House of Prayer

Cecil Lamar Blackmon Jr., 39, of Oneonta, died May 1, 2000. He was a member of Pea Ridge House of Prayer.

He is survived by his mother, Gayle H. Nix, of Oneonta; his father, Cecil Blackmon of Montevallo; three sisters, Jackie Armstrong of Forestdale, Candy Blackmon of Oneonta and Becky Blackmon of Birmingham; a brother, Lee Nix of Oneonta; one nephew; and two nieces.

Services were held May 4 at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, James Bufford presiding.

Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Pea Ridge, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

SALLY E. CARDEN

Shelby resident

Sally E. Carden, 52, of Shelby, died May 6, 2000. She was a beautician for several years in Shelby County.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Paul A. Pool and Clara Robbins Cromwell.

She is survived by two sons, Dewey Carden III and wife, Lisa, and Aaron Carden, both of Shelby; two grandchildren, Shawn Carden and Stacey Carden; three brothers, Paul R. Pool of Shelby, John D. Pool and Robert W. Pool, both of Columbiana; two sisters, Mary Charles Austin of Hawthorne, Fla., and Janet Falkner of Columbiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were held May 9 at Bolton Brown Chapel, Rev. Tom Minor officiating. Burial was in New Shelby Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.

JAMES PERCY "PAP" DAVIS

Jemison resident

James Percy "Pap" Davis, 87, of Jemison, died May 5, 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie Wyatt Davis of Jemison; nine daughters, Becky Smith and Ann McDonald of Jemison, Mary Vance of Clanton, Margaret Smith of Lawley, Ruby Allen of Maylene, Frances Scurlock of Helena, Bonnie Scurlock of Brantleyville, Linda Lucas of Wilton and Faye Sorrow of Centreville; six sons, Daniel Davis of Moundville, Jerry Davis of Wilton, William Davis of Maplesville, Ronnie Davis of Jemison, Kenny Davis of Jemison and Rayburn Davis of Jemison; three sisters, Willie Mae Wood of New Haven, Conn., Mary Wilson of Buelah and Irene Woods of Moundville; four brothers, Troy Davis of Greensboro, Newman Davis of Sayerville, Dotson Davis of Douglasville, Ga., and Curtis Davis of Phenix City; 45 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Services were held May 8 at Liberty Methodist Church in Moundville, Roy Ingram and Wayne Wyatt presiding.

Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in Moundville, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

LETTIE ANN DAVIS

Alabaster resident

Lettie Ann Davis, 84, of Alabaster, died May 3, 2000.

She is survived by four sons, Don Fortenberry and wife, Carol, of Gardendale, Jack Fortenberry and wife, Bernice, of Calera, Tommie Fortenberry and wife, Elizabeth, of Sylacauga, and Gary White and wife, Connie, of West Blocton; three daughters, Ruby Gentry and husband, Jim, of Sylacauga, Sherron Minton of Warrior and Rita Sparmon and husband, Fred, of Empire; three brothers, Virgil Jarvis and wife, Sudie, Jip Jarvis and wife, Elizabeth, and Lee Jarvis; sister, Renee Martin and husband, Jimmy; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Services were held May 5 at Bolton-Brown Chapel, Rev. Joe Kelley officiating. Burial was in Shelby Memory Gardens, Bolton-Brown Service directing.

RICHARD GUEST

Vietnam veteran

Richard Guest, 58, of Montevallo, died May 6, 2000. He was a member of Christian Mission Church in Pea Ridge.

He was an ordained minister and an Army veteran of Vietname War, where he was in the 82nd Air Borne.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Etta Guest and a brother, William Guest and his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Guest.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Warren Guest of Montevallo; a son, Richard Guest and wife, Kimberly Susan Guest, of Alabaster; mother-in-law, Auburn Warren; father-in-law, Frazier Warren; sister, Florence LaFleur of Homassa, Fla.; two brothers, Warren Guest of Miami, Okla., and Herbert Guest of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren, Graylon Trey Guest and Brett Shane Guest of Alabaster.

Services will be held May 11 at Christian Mission Church in Pea Ridge, Terry Palmer, Wayne Bullard and Clarence Roper presiding. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

STEELE F. HODGES

Steele F. Hodges, 84, of Wilsonville, died May 2, 2000. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

He is survived by wife, Miriam Hodges; a son, Steele Hodges Jr., both of Wilsonville; three daughters, Martha Merle Bagwell of Montevallo, Kathy Jo Young of Iowa and Teresa Saunderson of Birmingham; a brother, John Hodges of Beaumont, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held May 5 at Bolton-Brown Chapel, Rev. Mahlon Felkins and Rev. Briggs Macon officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Bolton-Brown Service directing.

ROBERT ALBERT "CIGAR BOB" JOHNSON

Retired from the Pump Shop

Robert Albert "Cigar Bob" Johnson, 84, of Birmingham, died April 30, 2000. A life-long resident of Jefferson County, he was retired from the Pump Shop Inc. after 31 years of service.

He is survived by his daughters, Gladys Means Simpson, Harriette Glover, Brenda George Henderson, Yvette Montgomery, Vanessa Reed and Marilyn Calhoun; and a sister, Virginia Johnson; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services were held May 4 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Raymond Whitsey officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home directing.
