SHIRLEY Jones FOWLER

Shirley Jones Fowler, 50, of Tuscaloosa, died March 1, 2000, at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Born in DeKalb County and raised in Valley Head, she was a graduate of Valley Head High School and the University of Alabama. She earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1972, a master of library science in 1973 and an Ed.S. in supervision and curriculum development at the University of Alabama.
She began her career with the University of Alabama in 1980 in the UA Development Research Center. She served as director of Development Research in 1991 and in 1995 was named Director of Development Services, a position she held until her death.
Active in her community, she served as president of the Tuscaloosa County Bar Auxiliary, president of the Mortar Board Alumni and treasurer of the Tuscaloosa Academy Auxiliary. She also served on the board of directors for the Miracle Riders of West Alabama, Tuscaloosa Academy, and the Tuscaloosa Swim Team and served as coordinator of the Cancer Society Reach to Recovery of West Alabama. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa and served as president of the United Methodist Women.
She was also active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement.
In 1999, she received the University of Alabama's National Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henrietta and Tom Jones of Valley Head.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Fowler; daughter, Julie Fowler; son, Jones Fowler; brother, Tom Jones and wife, Norma, of Valley Head and their children, Thomas, Michael and Marianne; in-laws, Conrad and Virginia Fowler of Tuscaloosa; brother and sister-in-law, Conrad Fowler Jr. and Rachel Fowler and their children, Catherine Carnes and Elizabeth Fowler; aunts and uncles, Rebecca Glasser of Foley, Marie and Billy Rawlings of Meridian, Miss., and the Rev. Harold and Betty Shirley of Rock Hill, S.C., and many close cousins and other relatives.
Graveside services were held March 4 at Valley Head Cemetery, Burt Funeral Home directing. Memorial services were held March 5 at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 800 Greensboro Ave., Tuscaloosa; The University of Alabama, Office of Advancement, c/o Rose Administration Building in Tuscaloosa or the American Cancer Society.
BRANDON DAREL JACKSON

Brandon Darel Jackson, 14 months old, died March 1, 2000, at Children's Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, George and Teresa Jackson of Birmingham; an aunt, Olivia McCary of Montevallo; and a host of other relatives.
Services were held March 4 at Faith Temple Deliverance Center in Montevallo, Bishop Johnny Harris officiating. Burial was in Montevallo Cemetery, Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.
VIRGINIA MAE "JENNY" MASSEY

Virginia Mae "Jenny" Massey, 56, of Wilsonville, died Feb. 28, 2000.
She is survived by her husband, William Glenn Massey of Wilsonville; two daughters, Kimberly Carol Walker of Nashville, Tenn. and Kristy Lynn Quarles of Birmingham; a son, Mitchell Glenn Massey of Birmingham; two sisters, Connie Moody of Jackson, Miss. and Ruby Massey of Meridian, Miss.; three brothers, Ed Jenkins of Palmer, Texas, George Jenkins of Bossier city, La., and Billy Jenkins of Meridian, Miss.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 1 at Bolton-Brown Chapel. Burial was in Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton-Brown Service directing.

Will Stacy, 71, of Centreville, died Feb. 25, 2000.
He is survived by his children, Will Stacy Jr., Lula Totter, Mary Moore and Dora Stacy and a host of other relatives.
Services were held March 5 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial was in Cooper Cemetery, Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.

Korean War veteran
Ted R. Wynn Jr., 66, of Columbiana, died March 4, 2000. He was a life-long resident of Shelby County and was a
Korean War veteran.
He is survived by his sons, Ted R. Wynn III of Shelby and Jimmy Wynn of Birmingham; a daughter, Sophia Butler of Columbiana; a brother, Tom Wynn of North Carolina; a sister, Carolyn Leverett of Birmingham; and nine grandchildren. Memorial services were held March 7 at Charter Funeral Home Chapel, Charter Funeral Home directing.

Evelyn Dupree, 80, of Columbiana, died April 9, 2000.
She is survived by her friend, Ann Bayard of Columbiana.

DANIEL KEN GENTRY

Daniel Ken Gentry, 34, of Pelham, died April 1, 2000. He was service manager for Turfcare and an avid hunter. He was a member of Oak Mountain Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Gentry; parents, Floyd Gentry and Billie Sue Gentry of Pelham; brother, David Keith Gentry and wife, Donna, of Pelham; sister, Diane Pridgen of Pelham; and two nephews, Josh Pridgen and Corey Gentry of Pelham.
Services were held April 5 at Oak Mountain Pentecostal Church, Rev. Paul Lane and Rev. Danny Winfrey officiating. Burial was in Oak Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.
JAMES CAMERON "J.C." HAMBY

James Cameron "J.C." Hamby, infant, died March 28, 2000.
He is survived by his parents, Melissa Crocker Hamby and James Kirk Hamby of Wilton; a sister, Kirklynn Lane Hamby of Wilton; a brother, Parker Lane Hamby of Wilton; grandparents, Willie and Nadine Hamby of Oneonta and B.C. and Debbie Crocker of Brierfield; great-grandparents, John and Frances Booth of Brierfield, Ola Edwards of Clanton and Lillian Crocker of Montevallo; great-great grandparents, Daisy Garner of Brierfield; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held March 31 at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Dennis Horton officiating. Burial was in Montevallo Cemetery, Rockco Funeral Home directing.
OLLIE VERGIE LEMLEY

Ollie Vergie Lemley, 92, of Calera, died April 7, 2000. She was a member of Dogwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peddie Lemley and her son, Percy Leon Lemley.
She is survived by her sons, Johnny Lemley of Chelsea and Donald Lemley of Calera; four brothers, W.L. Hughes, J.D. Hughes and Renfro Hughes of Montevallo and Howard Hughes of Calera; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 10 at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. B.B. Alexander officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Rockco Funeral Home directing.
CURTIS O. LILES JR.
Former mayor of Sylacauga
Curtis O. Liles Jr., 74, of Sylacauga, died April 6, 2000.
He served as Mayor of Sylacauga from 1972-76. And during his administration, a new building for the B.B. Comer Memorial Library was constructed.
Liles served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. And in 1948, he founded Marble City Broadcasting Company, which operated WMLS-AM and later WMLS FM until 1981.
He was president of the Alabama Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1955-56 and was selected by that organization as Outstanding Young Man of Alabama in 1958. He served as president of the Sylacauga chamber of Commerce in 1962-63 and was chairman of the United Way of Sylacauga during 1966-67.
Liles is survived by his mother, Vida Liles Reeves of Sylacauga; his wife, Alice K. Liles of Sylacauga; two children, Curtis O. Liles III and his wife, Jean, of Birmingham, and Chris Liles Kendrick of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Matthew Kendrick and Kelley Kendrick, both of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services were held April 8 at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, North Chapel in Sylacauga.
