Shirley Ostell Brantley, 56, of Brantleyville, died Jan. 5, 2000. She was a member of Grace Chapel.

She is survived by her sister, Patsy McCartney of Jemison; a brother, Joe Brantley of Pea Ridge; seven nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Jan. 7 at Ryan's Cemetery, Rev. Dwight Joiner officiating. Rockco Funeral Home directed the services.

ELIZABETH D. CRAWFORD

Member of Antioch Baptist Church

Elizabeth D. Crawford, 85, of Columbiana, died Jan. 4, 2000. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Harry Crawford of Trussville; two grandchildren, Joe Crawford of Shelby and Dan Crawford of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Joey Crawford; and two sisters, Nellie Browning and Oliana McKinney, both of Ashville.

Services were held Jan. at Bolton-Brown Funeral Home. Burial was in Old Shelby Cemetery, Bolton-Brown Service directing.

HOWARD L. MARTIN

World War II veteran

Howard L. Martin, 73, of Calera, died Jan. 4, 2000. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and served in the Navy during World War II.

He is survived by two sisters, Frances Littleton of Calera and JoAnn Stephens of Calera; a brother, Carlos Martin of Baton Rouge, La.; six nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jimmy Broadhead.

Services were held Jan. 7 at Rocko Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Shelby Memory Gardens, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

E.G. "RED" MCDONALD

Retired truck driver

E.G. "Red" McDonald, 76, of Jemison, died Jan. 4, 2000. He was a retired truck driver for McComb's Freight Line.

He is survived by his wife, Ann McCombs of Jemison; six daughters, Patsy Tucker of Jemison, Deborah Morris of Shelby, Jean Evans and Mellissa McDonald, both of Calera, Rose Williams of Cookeville, Tenn., Charlotte Smith of Hueytown; two sons, Stoney and Thomas McDonald, both of Jemison; two step-daughters, Marie Denham of Clanton and Rebecca Davidson of Calera; three sisters, Francis Higgins of Shelby, Mary Perrish and Pinkie Johnson, both of Sylacauga; three brothers, Tommy and Virgil McDonald, both of Wilsonville and Joe McDonald of Sylacauga; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 7 at Shelby Memory Gardens, Rev. Donald Vanderslice and Rev. Roy Ingram officiating. Burial was in Old Shelby Cemetery, Bolton-Brown Service directing.

LEE ANDREW RIVERS

Employed with Shelby Baptist Medical Center

Lee Andrew Rivers, 33, of Alabaster, died Jan. 1, 2000. A native of New York, he was employed with Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Quianda, LeAndrea, Quientea, Aleshia and Makelia; his mother, Brenda Robinson; father, Martin Rivers; brother, Mark Rivers; sister, LaQuenta Moore; and grandmother, Bernice Robinson.

Services were held Jan. 8 at Liberty Baptist Church in Alabaster, Rev. Van C. Houser officiating. Burial was in Liberty Ellisville Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home directing.

MATTHEW SPROUL JR.

Retired from U.S. Air Force

Matthew Sproul Jr., 81, of Calera, died Jan. 5, 2000. He was a retired Lt. Colonel from the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Zemma Lowery Sproul; children, Kenneth and Linda Sproul, Sandra and Richard Robinson, Burney and Valerie Sproul, and Sharon and Jake Brakefield; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 8 at Rockco's Chapel, Rev. Scott Fowler officiating. Burial was in Randall Cemetery, Rockco Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Big Oak Ranch, P.O. Box 567, Springville, 35146.

O.J. "BUD" STRONG

World War II veteran

O.J. "Bud" Strong, 79, of Alabaster, died Jan. 4, 2000. He was a native of Bonne Terre, Mo. He served 55 years with IBEW Local 136, where he served as national delegate, past president and business representative. He was a member of Kingwood Assembly of God and a veteran of World War II where he served as a military police officer.

He is survived by his wife, Genetta L. Strong of Alabaster; two sons, James Strong of Waynesburg, Penn., and John Strong and wife, Ducky, of Foley; two daughters, Joy Strong of Pensacola, Fla., and Lela Vaughn and husband, Mike, of Suva, Fiji; seven grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Danny, Valerie, Alicia, Missy and Ricky; one sister, Velma Wenzel of Lansing, Mich.; and a special friend, Jo Jo.

Services were held Jan. 6 at Ridouts Southern Heritage Chapel, Rev. Ron Cox and Rev. Aaron Channell officiating.

Burial was in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Ridouts Southern Heritage directing.

GEORGE W. BAKER

Member of Wilsonville Baptist Church

George W. Baker, 82, of Wilsonville, died Jan. 11, 2000. He was born March 30, 1917, to George and Emma Stough Baker of Notasulga. He was retired from Alabama Power Company and was a member of Wilsonville Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Stoudenmire Baker of Wilsonville; daughters, Delores Jones and husband, Danny; granddaughters, Jennifer Odgers and husband, Robby, all of Columbiana, Jacklyn Collins and husband, Shane, of Alabaster; and great-granddaughter, Nataline Odgers of Columbiana.

Graveside services were held Jan. 13 at Pinelawn Gardens, Rev. Steve Thomas officiating. Bolton-Brown Service directed the services.

DOROTHY L. BLACKMON

Jemison resident

Dorothy L. Blackmon, 62, of Jemison, died Jan. 10, 2000. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was retired from Briarcliff Nursing Home and was a member of the Springdale Weselyn Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Blackmon of Jemison; two daughters, Karen Denise Goodwin and Rhonda Lynn Blackmon, both of Jemison; seven grandchildren, Alana Goodwin, Kerry Goodwin, Robert Jarrell, Misty Jones, Brandy Tiller, Daniel Goodwin and Brian Jarrell; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Jones, Wesley Goodwin and Daniel Tiller; two brothers, William J. Burkett Jr. of Sterrett and Charles Ray Burkett of Birmingham; a sister, Anna Speigle of Birmingham; and her best friend, Helen Crawford of Bessemer.

Services were held Jan. 13 at Ridouts Southern Heritage Chapel. Burial was in Shelby Memory Gardens, Ridouts Southern Heritage directing.

Joan "Two Moon" Dunnaway

Calera resident

Joan "Two Moon" Dunnaway, 57, of Calera, died Jan. 11, 2000. She was born in Alabama on May 25, 1942, the daughter of William and Beulah Sansing. She was a member of Pentecostal Light House Church and a member of the Echota Cherokee Tribe.

She is survived by her husband Ed "One Wolf" Dunnaway of Calera; sons, Cleveland Dale Holloway of Shelby and Cody "Wind Walker" Dunnaway of Calera; daughters, Sebrenia Waldrep of Vinemont, Nina Cole of Maplesville and April Pannell Stevenson of Cullman; brothers, James Sansing of Huntsville and Charles Ray Sansing of Hanceville; a sister, Katherine Crowe of Hanceville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 13 at Charter Funeral Home, Rev. Waymond Stricklin officiating. Burial was in Pelham City Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.

FRANCES ELIZABETH ELLIOTT

Member of Columbiana United Methodist Church

Frances Elizabeth Elliott, 84, of Wilsonville, died Jan. 14, 2000. A Birmingham native, she lived in Wilsonville for more than 40 years and worked for the Pure Oil Co. in Birmingham and then assisted in the Muncy lumber business. She was a member of Columbiana United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Covington, Ruth Moss, Billie Atchison and Elfie Muncy; her brother, Douglas Elliott; and her nephew, Dan Moss.

She is survived by her nephew, Ben B. Covington Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Austin, Texas; a nieces, Barbara Castro and her husband, Mark and Ruth Moss of Broken Arrow, Ok.; 11 nieces and nephews; long-time friends Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hylton of Wilsonville and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Shumate of Cibilo, Texas; a number of extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and special caregivers Maryann Fincher, Brenda Whitfield, Grace Robinson, Candy O'Shields, Sue Shaw and Laura Brasher.

Services were held Jan. 16 at Wilsonville City Cemetery, Rev. Bob Alford officiating. Bolton-Brown Service directed the services.
