BERTIE PARISH

Bertie Parish, 83, editor and publisher of The Clayton Record, died Aug. 26, 1998 at her home.

She was a graduate of Alabama College, now the University of Montevallo, with a degree in music and went on to teach music at Montgomery County High School and in Clayton.

In 1960, she became editor and publisher of The Record, after her mother, Mrs. William Lee Gammell, died. Parish's mother had managed the paper since the death of her husband, William Lee Gammell, in 1954.

Parish's daughter, Rebecca Beasley, will become the third woman in her family to manage the paper.

Services were held Aug. 28 at Clayton United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to the Clayton Rescue Squad at Box 601, Clayton, AL 36016 or the Clayton United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 208, Clayton, AL 36016.

DOROTHY PAYNE
Member of Camp Branch United Methodist Church

Dorothy Payne, 65, of Birmingham, died Aug. 28, 1998. Retired with 45 years of service to BellSouth, she was a member of Camp Branch United Methodist and the Birmingham Museum of Art.

She is survived by her mother, Lennie Payne of Alabaster; brothers and sister-in-law, Charles Payne and Annie Belle Payne of Alabaster; and her sister, Frances Smoke of Auburn.

Services were held Aug. 30 at Southern Heritage Chapel. Burial was in Nabors Cemetery, Ridout's Brown Service directing.

DR. EDDY MICHAEL "MIKE" WILLIAMS
Former Shelby County physician

Dr. Eddy Michael "Mike" Williams, 45, of Jasper, died Aug. 19, 1998. Dr. Williams practiced for a time in Shelby County.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda Sartain Williams; a daughter, Amanda Jo Williams; a sister, Wanda Sue Ferguson and a brother, Jimmy Ray Williams.

Services were held Aug. 21 at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Powell officiating. Burial was in New Prospect Cemetery, Collins Burke Funeral Home directing.

HERMAN BOOTHE JR.
Birmingham resident

Herman Boothe Jr., 62, of Birmingham, died Sept. 3, 1998. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Boothe of Birmingham; a son, Tony Boothe of Birmingham; two daughters, Peggy Lynn Glover and Donna Jo Boothe, both of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Gary lee Glover Jr, Rhiannon LeCroy, Michael Nicole Glover and Courtney Lynn Boothe; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Glover and Jacob Lecroy; parents, Herman and Gracie Boothe of Alabaster; a brother, James Arley Boothe of Alabaster; and two sisters, Brenda Hyde of Pelham and Christine Hyde of Montgomery.

Services were held Sept.. 8 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel. Burial was in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Ridout's Southern Heritage directing.

RALPH P. CARLISLE SR.
Hidden Valley resident

Ralph P. Carlisle Sr., 49, of Hidden Valley, died Aug. 23, 1998.

He was a processing supervisor for Robinson Foundry.

Carlisle is survived by his wife, Teresa Carlisle of Hidden Valley; his son and daughter-in-law Ralph P. and Niki Carlisle of Lafayette, Ind.; daughter and son-in-law, Cherry and Tony Hiebert of San Angelo, Texas; mother, Edith Carlisle of Birmingham; four brothers, William A. Carlisle Jr., Paul E. Carlisle Sr. and William A. Carlisle III, all of Birmingham, and James R. Carlisle Sr. of Pinson; sister, Candy Setzer of Shelby; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Radney-Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hodo officiating.

Burial was in Marble Valley Cemetery, Radney-Smith Funeral Home Inc. in Sylacauga directing.

WILLIAM M. "BILL" COOK
Member of Providence Baptist Church

William M. "Bill" Cook, 56, of Calera, died Sept. 4, 1998 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

He was employed as an office clerk for USX Steel and was active in the Army Reserves. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Montevallo.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Jo Cook of Calera; a daughter, Felicia Cummings of Montevallo; a son, Phillip Cook of Jemison; two sisters, Jacqueline Stewart of Clanton and Mary Jo Lucius of Barton, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Clay Cook, Brittney Cummings and Courtney Cummings.

Services were held Sept. 8 at Providence Baptist Church, Rev. Scott Watson and Rev. Clyde Beam officiating.

Burial was in adjoining Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

GEORGE W. HOLCOMBE
Huntsville resident

George W. Holcombe, 83, of Huntsville, died Sept. 3, 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Fred Holcombe of Huntsville; a son, Ken Holcombe of Huntsville; brother, Robert Lee Holcombe Jr. of Crestview, Fla.; sister, Ada Rountree of Crestview, Fla.; three children and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sept. 12 at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Laughlin Service Funeral Home directed the services.

BILLY WADE MARLOW
Chelsea resident

Billy Wade Marlow, 56, of Chelsea, died Sept. 4, 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Marlow of Chelsea; two sons, Brian Marlow of Chelsea and Craig Glenn of Clanton; three daughters, Joyce Hawkins of Center Point, Annette Rupertus of Leeds and Patricia Delpino of Pennsylvania; a sister, Ann Mabe of North Carolina and nine grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 9 at Bolton-Brown Chapel, Bolton Brown Service directing.

MARY MILDRED SEALE PAYNE
Member of the First Baptist Church of Tarrant

Mary Mildred Seale Payne, 82, of Tarrant, died Sept. 5, 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tarrant and was retired from the Alabama Theatre.

She is survived by her husband, Fletcher Payne of Tarrant; a son and daughter-in-law, John Seale Payne and Linda of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary Payne Watson and David of Helena; five grandchildren, Lori Dean Vest, Angel Killian, James Rory Payne, Melissa Rigdon and Stephanie Payne and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 9 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel. Burial was in Nabors Cemetery, Ridout's Southern Heritage directing.

ELLA RUTH MOORE PERKINS
Clearwater, Fla. resident

Ella Ruth Moore Perkins, 69, of Clearwater, Fla. died Aug. 29, 1998.

Graveside services were held Sept. 5 at Pinelawn Gardens in Columbiana.

JACK GREEN RASBERRY
Alabaster resident

Jack Green Rasberry, 56, of Alabaster, died Sept. 2, 1998 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Tuscaloosa.

He is survived by his mother, Bertha Rasberry Cofer of Montevallo; his sister, Betty Sue Evans of Montevallo; five brothers, Bobby Frank Rasberry of Cudhy, Wisc., Billy Joe Rasberry of Birmingham, Willie Daniel Horton of Montevallo, William Clay Horton of Montevallo and James Harrison Rasberry of Calera and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Sept. 4 at Moore's Cemetery, Rev. Terry Johnson officiating. Rockco's Funeral Home directed the services.

BETTY J. STROUD
Former school teacher

Betty J. Stroud, 63, of Riverchase and formerly of Columbiana, died Sept. 3, 1998. She was a former teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Charles Stroud of Riverchase; three sons, John Stroud of Chattanooga, Tenn., Jeff Stroud of Birmingham and Joseph Stroud of Birmingham; mother, Odessa Benton of Montgomery; a sister, Doris Royals of Montgomery; four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sept. 6 at First Baptist Church of Columbiana, Rev. Glen Sly and Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Bolton-Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

CAROLYN BIGGS TOLBERT
Long-time teacher

Carolyn Biggs Tolbert, 75, of Montevallo, died Sept. 1, 1998.

A long-time teacher, she was the widow of Bruce Tolbert, former choral director, tenor soloist and associate professor of music at the University of Montevallo.

A native of Parkersburg, West Virginia, she attended Judson College and held a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught English many years at Chilton County High School in Clanton and also taught French at Montevallo High School.

She was active in the Montevallo Evening Garden Club and alumni activities of Chi Omega sorority and was an avid reader and bridge player.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Elizabeth Biggs, formerly of Jackson, Tenn. and now of Montevallo; daughter and son-in-law, Langley and Charlie Warnke of Montgomery; son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Vicki Tolbert of Montevallo and three grandchildren, Whitney Warnke Trotta of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Zach Warnke of Montgomery and Warren Tolbert of Montevallo.

Services were held Sept. 4 at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Ralph Barrow and Rev. Richard "Buddy" Freeman officiating. Barrow is pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Montevallo and Freeman, now retired, is the church's former pastor. Bruce Tolbert served as music director at the church while Freeman was pastor and her son serves as its current music director.

Burial was in Montevallo Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Music Fund at the First United Methodist Church in Montevallo.

SANBRAYA ANTONIA TURNER
Infant

Infant Sanbraya Antonia Turner, of Birmingham, died Aug. 31, 1998 at Cooper Green Hospital.

She is survived by her parents, Nancy Cottingham and Anthony Turner and a host of other relatives.

Services were held Sept. 3 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo. Burial was in Carver Cemetery in Birmingham, Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.
