TALLADEGA — Larry Alfred Blackburn died June 27.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Usrey Funeral Home.
WILLIE E. HAWKINS
VINCENT — Funeral service for Willie E. Hawkins, 79, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Calcis with Elder W.E. Frazier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hawkins died June 25 at his residence. He was a native of Helena, lived in Shelby County for many years and was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Bell Hawkins of Vincent; one stepson, Carl Woodall of Vincent; one sister, Rosie Lee Garrett of Childersburg; one brother, Eugene Cross of Birmingham; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives.
The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.
Nephews and friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.
Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.
JAMES ALBERT LATHEM SR.
VINCENT — Graveside service for James Albert Lathem Sr., 84, will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Forest Hills Cemetery
in Birmingham with Dr. Lindy Martin officiating.
Mr. Lathem died June 26 at his residence. He was a resident of New London since 1973 and was retired from Southern Railroad as a machinist. He taught machine shop at Nunnelley Trade School in Childersburg. He and his wife, the late Ruth Lathem, were married nearly 60 years. He was instrumental in starting New London Neighborhood Watch.
He is survived by one son, James A. Lathem Jr. of Birmingham; two daughters, Annie Jo Lathem and JoAnn Glenn of Vincent; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the New London Fire Department.

CLAUDIN ABERNATHY BRYANT
SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Claudin Abernathy Bryant, 92, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tom Hilyer officiating. Burial will be in Newsite Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Bryant died June 29 at Sylacauga Health Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Oscar Bryant, and was a member of Newsite Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Archie Lee Bryant and his wife Erbie, of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Doris Bryant Beckett and her husband, Dewayne of Auburn, and Shirley Bryant Blair and her husband, George of Rockford; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m.
Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.
REV. GARY MARK STEVEN HOSS
RAGLAND — Funeral service for the Rev. Gary Mark Steven Hoss, 48, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Ramsey and the Rev. Tim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Popes Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Hoss died June 29 at his residence. He was a native of Leeds and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He graduated with a master’s of ministry degree from Covington Theological Seminary. He was a volunteer with the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry.
At the time of his death, he was pastor of Unity Missionary Baptist Church. He was the former pastor of New Prospect Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Drew Dockery.
He is survived by his wife, LeWauna Hoss of Ragland; two daughters, Melissa Bowman of Pell City and Melanie Busby and husband, Danny of Ragland; one son, Steven Hoss and his wife, Michaella of Ragland; his father, the Rev. W.N. Hoss of Burlington, N.C.; his step-mother, Sandra Kay Hoss of Burlington, N.C.; one sister, Ginger Stewart of Moody; one brother, Neil Hoss of Pell City; three grandchildren, Lexus Bowman, Taylen Bowman and Hailey Hoss; and beloved in-laws.
Pallbearers will be Roy Cordle, Johnny Pruitt, Clint Vaughn, Chris Micham, David Boyd and Bart Owens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Stone, Tommy Castleberry, Bill Chamnes, Woody Higginbotham, Kim Vaughn, Gary Kendrick and J.D. Macon.
The family will receive friends at Unity Baptist Church Sunday from 6 until 9 p.m.

LINEVILLE — Hubert Lindsey, 62, of 623 Oak Grove Road in Lineville, died June 29 at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Danfort McElrath, 81, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ on Settlement Road in Sylacauga with Bro. John Kidd and Bro. Andrew Thomas Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. McElrath died June 26 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He retired from Avondale Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine McElrath of Sylacauga; two daughters, Mae Rene Riggins of Hinesville, Ga., and Wanda Faith McElrath-Frazier of Sylacauga; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

OSCAR CHATMAN SR.
ALPINE — Funeral service for Oscar Chatman Sr., of 1169 Jones Road, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. George Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Chatman died July 7 at St. Clair Regional Hospital. He was a life member of Labor Local #559, was retired from J.M. Foster Construction Company and was a member and deacon at Bethel Baptist Church. He was a member of Antioch Lodge #58A of the Free and Accepted Masons and was preceded in death by his wife, Vinne Reynolds; his parents, Zebedee Chatman and Ollie Jones Chatman; one daughter, Bobbie Chatman; and two sons, Oscar Chatman Jr. and Felix Zebedee Chatman.
He is survived by daughters, Beatrice Bell, Peggy Booth and Ollie Chatman of Chicago, Ill., Bernice Carter of Anniston and Clementine Sillmon of Alpine; son, Jimmie Chatman of Alpine; one sister, Mary Ann Keith of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, John Chatman and Alonzo Chatman of Alpine, Freddie Chatman and Roman Chatman of Chicago, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jammie Stockdale, Patrice Chatman, Willie Sillmon Jr., Adrian Sillmon, Andre Allen and Jeffery Reed.
Members of Antioch Lodge #58A of the Free and Accepted Masons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

JESSE SANFORD HARDEGREE
TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Jesse Sanford Hardegree, 82, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Higginbotham and the Rev. Doug Hemphill officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Hardegree died July 11. He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1960 and was chairman of the administrative board for two years and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Alabama Lions Club for 50 years and was past president of the Goodwater and Anniston clubs and was district governor in 1972. He was a sales supervisor with the Alabama Power Company since 1944, until his retirement in 1982. He was born to Rebecca Amelia Carroll and Hugh Darrell Hardegree on Sept. 12, 1919, in Goodwater.
He is survived by his wife, Lottie W. Hardegree; three children, Dianne D. Bishop of Montgomery, John S. Hardegree and wife Cathy Hardegree of Talladega and Sandra H. Burns and husband James Benjamin Burns of Columbus, Ga. ; one sister, Evelyn Briggs of Florence; four grandchildren, Cynthia Lyles, Steven Bishop, Celeste Burns and Cheryl L. Burns; and one great-granddaughter, Sophie Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Bob Priest, Bill Morrow, Sid Sharply, John Parker and Theo Strickland.
Alabama Power Company employees and members of the Lion's Club of Alabama will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8 p.m.

ESTELLE McCARY SWAIN
ALPINE — Funeral service for Estelle McCary Swain, 86, of 1305 Kings Chapel Road, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kings Chapel Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastors Van Tony Welch and Jesse Montgomery Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Swain died July 9 at Brookwood Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Swain II; five children, Eula E. Swain, Doris J. Garrett, Richard H. Swain, Joe L. Swain and Otis D. Swain; two brothers, her twin, Otis McCary, and Henry Keith; one sister, Willie J. Sampler; and her parents.
She is survived by six daughters, Beulah S. Garrett of Alpine, Cornelia Strickland of Talladega, Francina Scott of South Elgin, Ill., Bertha Carmichael of Jonesboro, Ga., Carol DeCoudreaux of East Point, Ga., and Gwynethe Ball of Alpine; three sons, Benjamin F. Swain III and Larry Swain of Alpine and Chief Master Sgt. Edsel K. Swain of Columbia, S.C.; 41 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, seven nephews, two nieces, cousins and other relatives.
The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kings Chapel United Church of Christ.
