Graveside services for Thomas Lamar Futral, 85, of Alexander City were at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Hillview Memorial Park. The Revs. Lamar Veazey and Tim Green officiated. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004.

Mr. Futral died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his residence. He was born May 14, 1919, in Tallapoosa County to James Joseph Futral and Maude Scott Futral. He retired from BellSouth after 35 years of service and was a member of New Providence Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn B. Futral of Alexander City; two daughters, Susan Kilgore and husband Rodney of Alexander City and Cathy Vardaman and husband Mart of Wetumpka; four grandchildren, Kelly Harper and husband Donnie of Jackson's Gap, Lisa Vardaman of Troy, Karen Epperson and husband Nathan of Chelsea and Kaci Richardson and husband Bryan of Millbrook; two great-grandchildren, Trent and Marleigh Harper of Jackson's Gap; one brother, James Futral and wife Dorothy of Goodwater; one sister-in-law, Owen Futral of Goodwater and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Owen Futral and George E. Futral and two sisters, Iris Mae Futral and Bessie Futral Bice.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to New Providence Baptist Church, 6100 Pearson Chapel Rd., Alexander City, AL 35010.

Kenny Leo Dean, 53, of Abilene, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in Abeline, Texas. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Radney Funeral Home.

Marjorie Johnston Morgan

1924-2004

Graveside services for Mrs. Marjorie Johnston Morgan, 80, of Alexander City will be at noon Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 at Cullman City Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Lukat will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Morgan passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born April 7, 1924 in Cullman County to Richard Pierce Johnston and Nan Saylors Johnston. She graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in home economics and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one son, Scott Morgan of Key Largo, Fla.; one daughter, Nan Morgan Bufogle and husband David; one grandchild, Sarah Bufogle all of Columbus, Ga.; and one brother Richard Pierce Johnston of Hartselle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Finis Morgan and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society, P.O. Box 634, Alexander City, AL 35011.

Brown O. Peters

1912-2004

Funeral services for Brown O. Peters, 92, of the Hackneyville Community will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Old Providence Baptist Church in the Hackneyville Community. The Rev. John McDaniel will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, and at the church for one hour prior to services.

Mr. Peters died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Adams Nursing Home. He was born July 29, 1912, to James Robert Peters and Maude Collins Peters. He was a member of Old Providence Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Speake Peters; three sons, Charles Peters and wife Dinky of Goodwater, Tony Peters and wife Barbara of Birmingham and Joe Peters and wife Dianne of Wilsonville; two daughters, Barbara Ray of Alexander City and Bonnie Lewis of Five Points; two brothers, Bill Peters and wife Glenda of Opelika and Fred Peters and wife Ella of Hackneyville; four sisters, Lurleen Coker of Birmingham, Mary Lou Yates of Hackneyville, Ollie Mae Mann of Alexander City and Edna Dunn and husband Bob of Belville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Maude Peters; three brothers, one sister and two grandsons.

Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Lewis Dunn Sr.

Sept. 5, 2004

Funeral services for Harold Lewis Dunn Sr., 72, of Alpine will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Curtis and Son North Chapel. The Rev. James J. Camp and Billy Epperson will officiate. Burial will follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Talladega. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004.

Mr. Dunn died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga. He was a former soldier in the Air Force, courageously serving a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He earned the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a kind and loving man who enjoyed telling good jokes and dancing until the sun came up. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ladonia Jean Epperson Dunn of Alpine; four daughters, Sandra Dunn Hughes and husband Mark of Arizona, Veronica Dunn Cooper and husband Douglas of Alpine, Deborah Dunn Frost of Anniston and Tammie Dunn Medley and husband Tracy of Alexander City; two sons, Harold L. Dunn Jr. and wife Frances of Dadeville and L. Steven Dunn and wife Kelli of Sylacauga; two step-daughters, Angela Hamlin of Alpine and Melissa Hamlin Whitehead of Sylacauga; one step-son, John Hamlin and wife Mary Beth of Munord; his step-mother, Irene Dunn of Sylacauga; seven granddaughters, Lacey Dake, Brittany Grimes, Angel Hamlin, Felicia Hamlin, Cayla Whitehead, Erika Hamlin and Jessica Hamlin; 11 grandsons, Lewis Engle, Andrew Engle, Steven Ray Grimes, Justin Carrico, Richard Carrico, Jason Frost, Christopher Medley, Sean Medley, Dylan Dunn, Ethan Dunn and Clayton Hamlin: four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Engle, Candice Dake, Colton Hamlin and Maggie Hamlin; four sisters, Chris Jinks of Alpine, Dean McCall of Sylacauga, Retta Stubblefield of Childersburg and Denise Castleberry of Sylacauga and one brother, Jerry Dunn of Arkansas. He was a best friend to his miniature Chihuahua, Coco Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Madge Deason Dunn; his father, Henry Lester Dunn; his brother, Gordon Dunn; his first wife, Ida "Chickie" Paradi Dunn; twin grandsons, Christopher and Michael Engle and grandson, Anthony Brown.

Ross and wife Earnestine of San Francisco, Calif.; five aunts, Arbelle Hardnett of Alexander City, Parrie L. Gillyard of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sarah Ross of Toledo, Ohio, Zannie Ree Hutchinson of Anniston and Thelma Will and husband Rudolph of Lithia Springs, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Lee Ross; his father, Sylvester Ross; one sister, Doris Kershaw; one son, Darryl Lee Jenkins and one daughter, Katherine Stafford.

Frazier Green Sr.

1914-2004

Funeral services for Frazier Green Sr., 90, of Jackson's Gap were at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Shady Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Eddie Kelsey officiated. Burial followed at Shady Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Green died Monday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Lake Martin Community Hospital. He was born June 14, 1914, to Cleo and William Green.

He is survived by one son, Frazier Green Jr. and wife Minnie of Jackson's Gap; one sister, Bertha Ball and husband Hugh of Oxford; six grandchildren, Kelia Finley and husband Roger of Camp Hill, Desiree Hall and husband Ronnie of Jackson's Gap, Frazier Green III and wife Talitha of Jackson's Gap, Fredrick Burns of Jackson's Gap, Shaetria Brown of Dadeville, and Ferlando Burns of New Site; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. James Kenneth Scroggins

1947 - 2004

Funeral services for Mr. James Kenneth Scroggins, age 57, of Jackson's Gap will be Monday, November 8, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Comer Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynn Peters and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 7, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Mr. Scroggins died on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Baptist Medical Center, Montclair in Birmingham. He was born on March 19, 1947 in Alexander City, AL. to James Farrow Scroggins and Mary Moore Scroggins. He was a faithful member of the Comer Memorial United Methodist Church where he served the Church as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Choir and several other capacities. Mr. Scroggins worked for over 30 years with Russell Corp. as a Manager of the Quality Control Lab, Plant #2, and Yarn Maintenance. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Gideon's International. He graduated from Benjamin Russell High School and Auburn University; was an avid Auburn Fan; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature, and collecting guns and bows.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Champion Scroggins of Jackson's Gap; one daughter, Lisa Holmes and her husband Tim of Alexander City; his grandchildren, Jeremy Pappas of Alexander City, Anna Holmes of Mobile, Haley Holmes of Birmingham, and Skylar Holmes of Birmingham; his mother, Mary Moore Scroggins of Alexander City; two sisters, Nancy Scroggins Sewell of Alexander City and Debra Easterwood of Jackson's Gap; and one brother, Larry Paul Scroggins of Alexander City.

The family will accept flowers or contributions to The American Diabetes. Association P.O. Box 2680 N. Canton, OH 44720 or to The Gideon's International P.O. Box 117 Alexander City, AL. 35011.
