Barbara J. Denning, 72, formerly of Dadeville, will be buried in the family plot in Hot Springs, S.D.

She died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003. She was born in Oelrichs, S.D., on July 3, 1931, and went to school in Hot Springs, S.D. She graduated summa cum laude. She lived in StillWaters for 21 years and Alexander City for three years. She spent the last two years living with her only son, Robert, in Saint Cloud, Fla.

She is survived by her son, Robert T. Denning and wife Doni; three grandsons, Jason, Joseph and Jacob Denning; one great-grandson, Jeremiah Denning; nieces and nephews, Gary Shaw and wife Patty of Cheyenne, Wy., Christine Dunn of Hot Springs, S.D., Terry Johnston and Kenna Sue of California and Clayton of Chicago and one brother-in-law, Elden Amen of Hot Springs, S.D.

Oscoela Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Francis Grady Vickers

1909-2003

Funeral services for Francis Grady Vickers, 93, of Alexander City were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Meyers officiated. Burial followed at Fellowship Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2003.

Mr. Vickers died Monday, August 4, 2003, at Chapman Health Care & Assisted Living. He was born Oct. 18, 1909, in Clay County to William Jackson and Nancy Hale Vickers. He was retired from Russell Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Myra Lavert Dunaway Vickers; four daughters, Virginia Holley of Lake City, Fla., Peggy Rider and husband Wade of Equality, Shirley Gardner and Glenda Lindsey, both of Alexander City; one sister, Eunice Gibson of Talladega; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Heritage Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimelvin Tiequne Readay Davis

Aug. 9, 2003

Funeral services for Jimelvin Tiequne Readay Davis of Alexander City were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Elam No. 1 Cemetery. Rev. Roderick Williams officiated.

Infant Davis died on Aug. 7, 2003 at Children's Hospital. He was born July 13, 2003, to Melvin D. Moon and Shameka S. Davis.

He is survived by his mother, Shameka S. Davis and his father, Melvin D. Moon, both of Alexander City; two sisters, Shantarion Carter and LaJaya Carter both of Alexander City; his grandparents, Willie and Bobbie Carter of Kellyton, Melvin Wyckoff of Cleveland and Dorothy J. Moon of Alexander City; a step-grandfather, Willie J Graham of Alexander City; two great-grandmothers, Hester Moon of Alexander City and Betty Davis of Kellyton; three aunts, four uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Burner E. Jones

1911-2003

Funeral services for Burner E. Jones, 92, of Kellyton were at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Bros. Ellis Jackson and Wayne Cowhick officiated. Burial followed at Smyrna Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.

Mrs. Jones died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born April 16, 1911, in Dawson to Ocie D. and Minitia Carrol Stone. She was a member of the True Holiness Church and worked as a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Joyce Price and her husband Billy of Kellyton; four grandchildren, Wanda T. Lamoureaux and her husband Don, Glynn Price and wife Sharon, Lynn Price and Cary Price and wife Katrina, all of Kellyton; six great-grandchildren, Beth Price, Scotty Price, Brooke Price, Nick Price, Abbie Price and Emily Price; four brothers, T.J. Stone and Buddy Stone, both of Alexander City, Ocie Stone of Sylacauga, and Joseph Stone of Albertville; two sisters, Opal Bramblett of Goodwater and Daisy Mahan of Alexander City.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Samuel N. Jones; three daughters, Mary Loyce Jones, Audrey B. Turner and Audrice D. Jones, and her parents.

Mr. Telles Allen of Alexander City died Aug. 13, 2003, at Adams Nursing Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be announced later by Wright's Funeral Home.

Emma Lou Story

1926-2003

Funeral services for Emma Lou Story, 77, of LaFayette will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at New Mt. Sellers Baptist Church in LaFayette. The Rev. Terry Magby will officiate. Burial will follow at Handy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Silmon/Seroyer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Story died Aug. 18, 2003, at her residence. She was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Chambers County. She was a member of New Mt. Sellers Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Ocie Pearl Landers, Gloria Story, Joann Todd and husband Cecil and Shanda Story, all of LaFayette; one son, Rodney Story and wife Shetzv of Shawmut; eight devoted grandchildren; two special grandchildren, Vondricka and Bobby Calloway, both of LaFayette; 19 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Eddie Frank Wright, Emanuel Brady and Leon King and wife Barbara, all of LaFayette and Willie Robert Wright and wife Patricia of Chicago; one sister, Josephine Watts of LaFayette; a host of nieces and nephews; a close friend, Janet Finley; and three special friends, Jannie Williams, Lucille Turner and Jerome Johnson.

Silmon/Seroyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jack Fariss Heard

1919-2003

Funeral services for Jack Fariss Heard, 83, of Huntsville and a native of Camp Hill will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Langley Funeral Home.

Mr. Heard died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003. He was born Dec. 8, 1919, to Omar Slaughter and Lucille Mai Fariss Heard. He was a member of the First Universalist Church in Camp Hill. To the many who knew him well, he was loved, cherished and admired. Mr. Heard, a retired U.S. Navy Commander, began his Navy career in submarine duty during WWII, shortly following his graduation in aeronautical engineering from Auburn University. His Navy career continued for 20 years and included command of the submarine USS Clamagore SS-343 and of the USS Shadwell LSD-15. Following retirement from the Navy, he located in Huntsville to become part of the Apollo Mission team. Following retirement from the aerospace program, his career continued as president and owner of Southern Processors, Inc. He served as president and board member of the National Bark Producers Association.

He is survived by his wife Maxine Rockwell Heard; two daughters, Dana Heard Adams and husband James C. of Suffolk, Va., and Jacqueline Heard Walker of Huntsville; one brother, John Thomas Heard and wife Jean of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Dana Kirsten Patterson and husband William F. of Dauphin Island, James C. Adams III and wife Hannah of Suffolk, Va., and Shannon Dana Adams of Raleigh, NC.; nephew John T. Heard Jr., and one great-grandson, John (Jack) William Patterson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lyman Ward military Academy, P.O. Drawer 500, Camp Hill, AL or to the First Universalist Church, 21620 Sen. Claude Pepper Drive, Camp Hill, AL 36850.

Bronzie Allen "Cowboy" Reynolds

1954-2003

Funeral services for Bronzie Allen "Cowboy" Reynolds, 49, of Alexander City will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. John Watkins and the Rev. Jerry Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at Byrneville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Century, Fla., with the Rev. Marcus Carraway officiating. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003.

Mr. Reynolds died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1954, in Century, Fla., to Marvin Didymus and Estelle Allen Reynolds. He worked as a saw operator.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia B. Reynolds of Alexander City; one son, Ronnie Bowen and wife Sabrina of Alexander City; one daughter, Angel Reynolds; two grandchildren, Zachery Bowen and Amanda Bowen, both of Alexander City; his mother, Estelle Reynolds of Atmore; three sisters, Adelia White and husband Leroy of Byrneville, Fla., Patricia Ann Reynolds and Jean Daniels, both of Atmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Didymus Reynolds and one brother, Douglas Anthony Reynolds.

Ms. Constance Anne Cohen died Tuesday Aug. 26, 2003, in Montgomery.

Hosie Jones

Funeral services for Hosie Jones, 97, of Dadeville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Waverly. Minister Michael D. Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Jones died Aug. 24, 2003, at his residence. He was born March 24, 1906, to Jasper and Mollie Ricks Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Jones of Dadeville; three daughters, Martha Cox and husband Bobby and Mary C. Jones, all of Dadeville, and Edith Billingslea of Lanett; four sons, Willie F. Jones of Camp Hill, Nathaniel Jones, Henry Jones and wife Janet and Michael Jones and wife Debra, all of Dadeville; one godson, Harry Wilson Jr. of Dadeville; two sisters, Eliza Woody of Alexander City and Myrtis Greathouse of Jackson's Gap; one daughter-in-law, Mary Willie Jones; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Colbert and husband John, and Mary Randy, all of Columbus, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Otis Sprayberry

1927-2003

Graveside services for Otis Sprayberry, 76, of Alexander City will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Hillview Memorial Park. Randy Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003.

Mr. Sprayberry died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at his residence. He was born May 22, 1927, in Clay County to John Israel and Mary Frances Smith Sprayberry. He worked as a millwright and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He also worked as a security guard for Russell Corp. and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Wynema Sprayberry of Alexander City; one son, Charles Otis Sprayberry of Idaho; one daughter, Mary Beth Sprayberry of Florida; one step-daughter, Scarlett Jacobs of Alexander City; one brother, John Sprayberry of Calhoun, Texas and two sisters, Gladys Kennedy and Larue Hassett, both of Alexander City.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Friends of Hospice, 3368 U.S. Hwy. 280 - Suite G-10, Alexander City, AL 35010.
