Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Benton died Monday, July 21, 2008 in Birmingham. She was a member of the Moody Parkway Church of God. He was a native and life long resident of Clay County and had worked in the shipping department of the Eva Jane Plant at Avondale Mills for 20 years. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Darby of Hollins; one daughter, Brittany Darby of Sylacauga; four sisters, Brenda Joiner (Donald), Dianne Mason (Jimmy), Angie Robinson (Eugene) all of Hollins, and Carolyn Harmon (Kenny) of Weogufka; two brothers, Doyle Darby (Beverly) of Jemison and Alton Darby of Hollins. He was preceded in death by his father, Stewart Darby; and one brother, Billy Ray Darby.

He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a Mason. He retired as a pulp mill superintendent from Kimberly-Clark in 1989 after 36 years of service. He was an avid fan of Alabama football and golf and volunteered at the Boys' Club of Sylacauga. LINCOLN — Christy S. Wood, age 52, of Lincoln passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Christy was a beloved wife, mother, and friend, and loved everyone she ever came in contact with. Christy was born on May 12, 1956 in Dover, DE. She grew up with her parents, sisters, and brother in Homewood. Christy spent the last 15 years of her life serving the community of Lincoln in various capacities, including PTA president, Athletic Booster Club, and numerous other charities and organizations. Her true legacy will be the limitless love she spread amongst the people she knew. She was always quick to sacrifice herself for the good of others and would lend a hand or an ear to anyone in need of help. She was a great friend and family member and her presence will be truly missed. Christy is survived by her husband, Louis Wood Jr. of Lincoln; her two sons, Brett Wood and his wife Brooke of Raleigh, NC and Jeremy Wood of Lincoln; her mother, Patricia Shackelford of Lincoln; two sisters, Courtney Slater of Alabaster and Katie Vann of Homewood; a brother, Patrick Shackelford of Oak Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews. At the time of his death he was a resident of Pell City, Alabama, but for many years he lived in the East Lake community of Birmingham. He worked at Hayes Aircraft and was a long-term member of Ruhama Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and his wife, Edith Avery Funderburg, and is survived by his five children, Betty Marvel, Tom Funderburg (Pattie), Noah Funderburg (Mary), Audrey West, and Connie Brigman (Chris), 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. PELL CITY — Mamie Lucille Hunsucker Turner, age 85, wife of the late James W. Turner, went home Sunday, July 27, 2008. She was born on January 19, 1923, in Bogachitta, Mississippi. She faithfully served the Lord and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by two children, daughter, Kathryn Turner Carroll and son, James F. (Beverly) Turner. Her surviving siblings are Raymond Hunsucker of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard Hunsucker of Thomasville, Georgia and Virginia H. Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. We rejoice in knowing that she is resting in the arms of Jesus. He was a member of Westside Church of God. He retired after ministering the gospel in the Church of God in Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky for some 60 years. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving in World War II on the U.S.S. South Dakota in the Pacific Theatre. After retiring from the ministry, he worked at Southern Alloy for about four years. He then worked at Piggly Wiggly for some six years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Alldredge Ragsdale; mother and father, Bessie and Marvin Ragsdale; and brothers, Hershel, Little J.C. and Roy Ragsdale. TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Betty Lou Kirksey Turner, 92, will be Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. at Lilly Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Curtis Seals and Hardy Reynolds Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 12 p.m. Mrs. Turner died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at her residence. She was educated in the Talladega City System, retired from the Talladega City Board of Education, a member of Lilly Hill Baptist Church where she was treasurer and a member of the choir and missionary society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. TeEster Turner Sr.; a son, Mr. John Henry Turner; and her parents, Mr. Jack Kirksey and Mrs. Willie Morris Kirksey; a brother, Mr. Charlie Kirksey; and a sister, Mrs. Lillie Mae Keith. Survivors are daughters, Mrs. Minnie (Norman) Cochran of Ossining, NY, Mrs. Yvonne (Willie) Wilson of Talladega, and Mrs. Doris (Robert) Mack of St. Augustine, FL; sons, Mr. TeEster Turner of Newport News, VA, Mr. Willie C. (Shirley) Turner of Ossining, NY, and Mr. William E. Turner of Talladega; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Mr. TeEster Turner, Mr. Willie Charles Turner, Mr. William E. Turner, Mr. Jackie Wilson, Mr. James McClendon and Mr. Percy Fuller. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.
