DONALD WARE

PELL CITY - Don had five good years after we kidnapped him from the nursing home. Donald E. Ware, 73, passed Wednesday, June 25, at Trinity Hospital in Birmingham. His health had deteriorated rapidly from an infection that invaded a body weakened by the abdominal aneurysm and stroke he suffered in 2000. Since February 2003, Don lived with this wife Terry (Price) and Terry’s mother Von Watson in Pell City, Alabama. His health improved dramatically from his decline in the nursing home as Terry and Von cared for him. He mainly enjoyed his remote control and Arby’s roast beef, but he also loved fudgecicles, being licked by Tinkerbelle, snuggled by Skamper, dipping Copenhagen snuff, and drinking V8 juice by the liter.

Don served two terms as a commissioner in Okaloosa County, Florida, after he retired from the U.S. Air Force. As a 17-year-old, he served in the Korean Conflict and later served in the Viet Nam Conflict.

Although he and Terry lost their son Martin in 2000 just after Don’s stroke, Don has four older children who live in the Altoona, Pennsylvania area. Don Ware, Joni Oakes, Jan Servello, Mary Ann Gwin, and their children and grandchildren will miss their Dad and Pap-Pap. We’re all grateful and a little envious that Marty was there to greet him when Don crossed over.

In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no formal service.

Remembrances may be made to Lakeside Hospice Pell City or to the Pell City Animal Shelter.
