PIEDMONT — Arlene Wilson Crook, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008.

Funeral services for Mrs. Crook will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Methodist Church in Piedmont with the Rev. Long, Pastor and Elder Ernest Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Adams-Buggs Funeral Service in charge. The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service. She is survived by her children, Ann Jones, Joseph Lee Crook Jr., and Ronald Crook, of Boston, Mass., and Willie Crook, of Piedmont; a number of grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

OXFORD — Funeral services for Talmadge Lee Hanson, 83, who passed away July 1, 2008, will be announced by Miller Funeral Home and Crematory.

HEATH

OHATCHEE — Funeral services for James Robert Heath, 92, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Oak Bowery Baptist Church in Ohatchee with the Rev. Whitt Hibbs and The Rev. David Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Middleton Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Chapel Hill Funeral Home from 6-8 tonight. Mr. Heath died on June 30 at his home. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Josephine and Harris Smith; one grandson, Robert Smith; and two great-granddaughters, Courtney Smith and Cassidy Smith, all of Ohatchee; one brother and his wife, Achaia and Martha Heath; and one sister, Grace Bolin, all of Glencoe; and a wonderful and loving caregiver, Linda Hale, of Ohatchee.

Pallbearers will be John Bonds, Everett Martin, Terry Russell, Mark Brown, Dave Lehr, and Alan Singleton. Mr. Heath was born on June 14, 1916 in Glencoe, Alabama to John Lee and Clemmie Ann Bonds Heath. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at age 19. He was baptized by The Rev. Dan Gardner and became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. After moving to Ohatchee, he joined Oak Bowery Baptist Church on August 1, 1948. He married Sedalia Collins on August 10, 1940 and they were married for more than 65 years. After being employed at M&H Valve for 37 years, Mr. Heath retired in 1981 and together they enjoyed many years of fun and travel. They both will long be remembered for their jolly spirit and quick wit. Since the death of his beloved wife in 2006, Mr. Heath has longed to join her in Heaven. TALLADEGA — Mrs. Ailean Gaither Clay Lawson, 74, died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Talladega. Mrs. Lawson was a native and life long resident of Talladega. She was a member of Stockdale Baptist Church and was retired from Textile Industries.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Haney, of Talladega, daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Edwards (Lamar), Sheila Estes (Winston), of Talladega; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Clay (Kathy), of Anniston; sister, Helen Gurley, and Ann Armbrester, of Munford, Mable Parton, EmmerJean Parton, and Jewel Gurley, all of Talladega; brother, Watson Gaither, of Trussville; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by husbands, Herbert Calvin Clay and Marion F. Lawson; brother, David Gaither; granddaughter, Amy Haney; parents, Marshall and Cordelia Gaither. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Usrey Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Usrey Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Armbrester officiating.

Pallbearers will be Troy Haney, Todd Haney, Jacob Estes, Trent Haney, Tanner Edwards, Timothy Clay, David Rager, Steve Edwards.

MILLER

LINCOLN — Services for Mr. Tonquerius Louis Miller, 21, will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary. Mr. Miller died June 30, 2008 in Lincoln.

PEARSON

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Mae Pearson, 90, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church in Anniston with the Rev. Billy Ray Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The body will be at the church one hour prior to services. Mrs. Pearson died on June 28, 2008 at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a faithful caregiver and niece, Pam Walton, of Anniston; life long companion of forty-five years, John S. Minnifield; 11 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; and a host of great-great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Pearson was a Dadeville native and a member of the Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for Sterling Lumber Co. in Goodwater for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brant and Ella Harmon; sisters and brothers, Albert Harmon, Bill Harmon, Grover Harmon, Maggie L. (C.S.) Smith and Bernice Johnson. PIEDMONT — Margie Lucille Steed "Maw-Maw" passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 30, 2008. She was surrounded by her loving family. Survivors include two daughters, Diane Atchley (Gerald), of Pelham, Judy Adkison (Jay Hugh), of Spring Garden; four sons, Bobby Steed ( Sandra), William Steed(Deborah), Terry Steed and Jimmy Steed, all of Piedmont; 15 grandchildren, Tami Pearce, David Atchley, Ray Atchley, Nathan Atchley, Jeff Rader, Josh Adkison, Kim Kirk, Jason Steed, Wendi Cambron, Craig Steed, Chad "Fred" Steed, Sabrina Adams, Suzanne Steed, Dorothy Steed and Amanda Steed; 19 great-grandchildren, Amber, Bradley, Quinten, and Priya Atchley, T.J. ,Ashton, and Alyce Rader, Hayley Adkison, Ryan, Ryley, and Kayley Kirk, Colton and Hunter Steed, Dalton Riffey, Zoee Holcomb, Landon Gilmer, Remington Steed, Fisher Adams, Dalton Slayton, Samantha Parker, and Ashley Maddox; two brothers, Rob Headrick (Sue), and Ralph Headrick (Carol); and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Steed was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Steed, parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.N. Humphrey, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Headrick, sister, Luella Alvis, and brothers, Bill and Tom Headrick.

Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters. Mrs. Steed was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was retired from Union Yarn Mills in Jacksonville. Mrs. Steed was also a member of Shady Grove Congregational Methodist Church. She was known for her love of family and friends. She always had a kind word for everyone. After taking care of her family, she even found the time to get her GED. For a number of years she was a volunteer for the Piedmont Rescue Squad. In 2002, Mrs. Steed was given the Governor's Award for Outstanding Service to the State of Alabama for her strong and consistent support of the Chief Ladiga Trail. The family would like to express a special thank you to the 3rd Floor nurses at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and Carol Headrick.

BOSTICK

PIEDMONT — Services for Kenneth Wayne Bostick, 59, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Maddox officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Bostick died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Burrows Bostick; one son, Shane Bostick (Missie), of Piedmont; one daughter, Sheila Horne, of Piedmont; three grandchildren, Wade Horne, Haley Bostick and Carson Bostick; one aunt, Dean Smart (Tom), of Piedmont; and numerous cousins.

Pallbearers will be Charles Burrows, Jeremy Christopher, Shane Bostick, Larry Reynolds, Harold Martin and Buddy Maddox. Mr. Bostick was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont. He was a disabled U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He held the rank of sergeant with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. He was the recipient of the purple heart, two bronze stars with oak leaf clusters and two Army commendation medals. He was a former employee of the Anniston Army Depot.

CORN

ANNISTON — Violet Reaves Corn, 81, formerly of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Mrs. Corn was born February 20, 1927 in Rome, Georgia, the daughter of the late Monroe Corn and the late Sally Conine Corn. Mrs. Corn was retired from Golden City Hosiery Mill where she worked as a spinner and was of the Baptist faith. She had a love of flowers and enjoyed gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Seals L. Corn Sr.; sons, William H. "Billy" Corn, and Seals "Butch" Corn Jr. and brother, Delbert Reeves.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Donnie Smith, of Carrollton; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Anita Corn, of Carrollton, and Phillip and Wanda Corn, of Weaver; loving sister, Pansey Burney, of Anniston; eight grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Pastor Jackie Bentley officiating. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Saturday, July 5, 2008 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Talmadge Lee "Tal" Hanson, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today, July 3, 2008, in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Terry Bostick officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hanson died on Monday at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Evangeline Hanson, of Jacksonville; sons, Lee Hanson and his wife, Beth, of Cummings, Ga. and Martin Hanson and his wife, Brenda, of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Hanson Klanac and her husband, David, Kali Amanda Hanson, Justin Martin Hanson and Katlyn Anne Hanson.

Pallbearers will be nephews. Mr. Hanson was a native of Ranburne and had lived in Calhoun County for the past 67 years. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Mattox of Milton, Fla. and Lesa Cotton, of Anniston; four sons, Jimmy Sims, of Delta, Ricky Sims, of Newell, Terry Sims, of Cedartown, Ga. and Ross Sims, of Old Davis Town; 10 grandchildren, Brandon Sims, Brian Sims, Jeremy Sims, Tim Sims, Chase Cotton, Lauren Cotton, Stephanie Price, Kristal Rutherford, Sheryl Pesnell and Katelyn Sims; 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Sims, Brian Sims, Jeremy Sims, Timothy Sims, Chase Cotton, Wesley Rutherford and Chad Pesnell. Mrs. Sims was a member of Iron City Baptist Church.
