BLANCHE FIELDS ALEXANDER

ASHLAND - Funeral services for Mrs. Blanche Fields Alexander, age 87, will be Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Ashland with the Rev. Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.
Mrs. Alexander passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at the Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native and life long resident of Clay County, she was a homemaker, but had worked for over 34 years with the Clay County Commission. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland.
She is survived by one brother, Kermit Fields of Talladega; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Obadiah and Helen Jarvis Fields; husband, Fred Alexander; two brothers, Roy and Rex Fields; two sisters, Lucille Forman and Ruth Williams.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday February 1, and until one hour prior to services on Friday. She will lie in state for one hour.
Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.

WILLIAM ALTON "BILL" COCHRAN JR.

WEDOWEE - Funeral services for William Alton "Bill" Cochran Jr., age 63, will be at Saturday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. from Prospect Baptist Church, Clayton, Ala., Barbour County, with the Rev. Brian Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1. Visitation from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2 at Prospect Baptist Church. Mr. Cochran died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra L. Cochran of Wedowee; two daughters, Carol Dianne Cochran of Providence, RI, and Brenda Lea Cochran of Nashville, TN; three sisters, Tommie Wise and June Gonzales both of Sylacauga, Laura Armstrong of Moody; four brothers, Thomas Smelley of Sylacauga, Jerry Smelley of Anniston, Ken Smelley of Alex City, and Floyd Smelley of Childersburg.
Pallbearers will be Brian Smelley, Jason Smelley, Chris Smelley, Joe Ricondo, Quinn Barlow, Derik Baxley, Mark Winfield, and Greg Mclendon. Honorary pallbearers will be the A&M Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Cochran was born June 1, 1943, son of William A. and Emily Belle Limbaugh Cochran Sr. He was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church in Barbour County, retired after 30 years of service in the United States Army as a Command Sergeant Major, a member of the 101st Airborne Division. Served as secretary, first responder and a member of the A&M Volunteer Fire Dept.
Mr. Cochran is preceded in death by his father, William A. Cochran Sr.; his mother, Emily Belle Smelley; his step-father, Gladwin Smelley. Flowers will be accepted or donations made to the A&M Fire Dept.

ELIZABETH GARRETT JACKSON

ST. LOUIS, MO - A home-going celebration for Elizabeth Garrett Jackson, formerly of Talladega, will be at the Mount Canaan Baptist Church, Talladega on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Horace Patterson officiating. There will be a family visitation and viewing at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Jackson transitioned on January 28, 2007 in St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services in St. Louis will be at on Wednesday, January 31, at 11 a.m. at Lane Tabernacle CME, in St. Louis entrusted to Austin A. Layne Mortuary Inc.
Elizabeth Garrett was born in Talladega on October 17, 1933 to Alpha Ruth Garrett and Joe Bowman. Her parents and siblings Archie Garrett and Ruthie Lee Cunningham preceded her in death. Mrs. Jackson leaves to cherish her memory her husband, the Rev. O.R. Jackson (St. Louis, MO); a daughter, Charon (Gerald) Douglass of Sylacauga; sons, Antoine (Winifred) Tucker of Lithonia, GA; Jeffery (Carla) Jackson and adopted daughter, Sherron Stockdale; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Services in Talladega are entrusted to Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary. Interment will be at the St. Campbell Baptist Church Cemetery, Alpine.

CHILDERSBURG - Tony Lightsey passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, at his residence. Radney-Smith Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

STEVE GRADY PARRISH

SYLACAUGA - Funeral services for Mr. Steve Grady Parrish, 62, will be Friday, Feb. 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Parrish passed away Monday, Jan. 29 at his residence. He worked for many years for Barber Insulation.
He is survived by two sisters, Louise Hayes and Dorothy Gissendanner both of Sylacauga; son, Steven Parrish of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter, Rachel Sherbert and husband Chris of Sylacauga; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 1 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the services.

GRADY PEPPER

CHILDERSBURG - Grady Pepper, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at his residence. A native of Clay County, he was born on November 13, 1921 and was a longtime, respected resident of Childersburg. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Grady was a WWII Veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1945. He was a proud "Timberwolf" in the 104th Infantry Division fighting under the command of General Omar Bradley's First Army. He was involved in the famed "Battle of the Bulge" and participated in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest of that campaign. He was awarded the WWII Victory medal and Presidential Unit Citation upon his return from Germany. In 1949, Grady left his hometown of Ashland and became an employee of the Coosa River Newsprint Company, Kimberly-Clark Corporation. He retired after 33 years service in the Groundwood Division on Nov. 13, 1982. Grady was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lee Harkins Pepper. Following their reunion, they will celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary in May.
Survivors include his son, Charles D. Pepper and wife Willi of Pell City; his granddaughter, Michelle Pepper and husband Pat Turner of Fresno, California; and his great-granddaughter, Audrey Nicole Turner of Fresno, California.
Graveside service will be at on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Ashland Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Barrow officiating. Visitation will be at Friday, Feb. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home in Childersburg.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

MARY ESTHER PARSONS
SYLACAUGA — Funeral services for Mary Esther Parsons, 83, will be Sunday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with Neal Vick officiating. Burial will be in Tallasahatchie Cemetery. Mrs. Parsons died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at Sylacauga Health and Rehab. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Machen; 2nd husband, L.C. Parsons; and son, Nicky Machen. She is survived by son, Eddie Machen and wife Sandra of Sylacauga; two sisters, Hester Spencer and Vella Pewitt both of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 3, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the services.

CLINT SHAW

Funeral services for Clint Shaw, 75, of Auburn, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at Auburn United Methodist Church Founders Chapel with the Rev. Nick Holler officiating. Burial will follow in Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Shaw will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at Fredericks Funeral Home. Mr. Shaw who died on Feb. 1, 2007 after a long illness was born June 13, 1931 in Coosa County. Mr. Shaw moved to Auburn in 1985. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and he retired from Auburn University in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Pike) Shaw of Auburn; and three daughters, Melissa (James) Heron of Priceville, AL; Lynn Richey of Opelika, Suzanne Shaw of Auburn; and two grandsons, Ethan Heron and Colby Richey. LYNNE C. WEBER

SYLACAUGA — Graveside service for Mrs. Lynne C. Weber, age 61, was Monday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Weber passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at her residence. She had worked for the City of Sylacauga Police Dept. since 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher J. Weber Jr. She is survived by son, Joseph C. Ballow Jr. and wife Donna S. Ballow of Talladega; and four grandchildren. The family requests donations be made to B.B. Comer Memorial Library Foundation. Pallbearers were the City of Sylacauga Police Officers. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel directed the service.

DAVID WILLIAM (SUPA DAVE) BULLOCK SR.

ANNISTON — Funeral service for David William (Supa Dave) Bullock Sr., 55, will be Friday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Alvin Walker officiating. Mr. Bullock died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 at Stringfellow Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jeraldine Bullock; son, David W. Bullock Jr.; sisters, Sharon Bullock and Aleta L. Bullock Garrett. He is survived by his wife, Gloria J. Bullock of Anniston; sons, Claude Bourne of Albany, N.Y., John Graham of Manhattan, N.Y., William Jesus Graham of Anniston, Jesse L. Graham of Sylacauga, and Gary K. Wallace of Anniston; daughters, Gloria E. Bullock of Manhattan, N.Y., Aisha Bullock of Atlanta, Ga., and Marlenna Graham of Sylacauga; brother, Johnny A. Bullock Jr. of West Virginia; sisters, Linda Noble of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Virginia S. Yomans of New York; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 2-8 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 25, from 1-3 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ESSIE PEARL CADE

HARPERSVILLE — Services for Essie Pearl Cade, 91, will be at on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Baptist in Harpersville. the Rev. Clarence C. Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Harpersville Cemetery. Mrs. Cade died on Oct. 18, 2007 at her residence. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Minnie Hall, Annie Mae Kelly, Georgia Mae Garner, and Jeffery Pearl Peterson all of Harpersville; five sons, Jerry Noble and Dexter Cade, both of Harpersville, Jimmy Noble, Jessie Noble and Charlie Cade all of Cleveland, Ohio; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Flowerbearers will be granddaughters and friends of the family.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends of the family. Visitation will be at Tuesday at Community Funeral Home from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

DORIS J. COTTON

GARDENDALE — Funeral services for Doris J. Cotton will be Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. at Kilgroe Chapel. Interment will be in Box Cemetery in Ragland. Doris J. Cotton, age 83, passed away Oct. 21, 2007 at Sunbridge Nursing Home, Gardendale. She retired from McWayne Cast Iron Pipe Company. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd M. and Claudia Belle (Kittye) Jackson of Ragland; her husband, Benjamin Luke Cotton; her sisters, Daisy Lynn, Dorothy M. (Dixie) Edge, and Janice Jackson; brothers, Floyd M. Jackson, Guy Burnis Jackson and J.B. Jackson. She is survived by brothers, Charles L. Jackson of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Elton R. Jackson of Knoxville, Tenn. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the services.

A.D. "DICK" GREEN

PELL CITY — Funeral services for A.D. "Dick" Green, 81, will be Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Pell City First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Cook Springs Cemetery. Mr. Green died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Green; three sons, Allen Green, Richard E. Green and Michael (Betty) Mills; three daughters, Carol Mills (Jeff) Butler, Pamela Mills (Murphy) Seale, Kathy Mills; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Marshall, Kara, Joshua, Michael, Daniel, and Adam; and two great grandchildren. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct.

AUBREY RAY "BUDDY" LACKEY

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Aubrey Ray "Buddy" Lackey, 79, will be Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Brown-Service Funeral Home, with Cliff Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Lackey died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 in Talladega. Best known as "Mr. A.R.", Buddy was a native of Talladega and worked for Cheaha Motor Company as service manager for more than 25 years. He owned and operated L&L Body shop on Hwy. 77 for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter and loved Auburn Football. However, he was quick to tell all that he came in contact with that his greatest joy and biggest accomplishment in life was his fifteen grandchildren. He had a special relationship with each one, and loved them with his heart and soul. His oldest grandson, Jason Lackey, is currently serving in Iraq. He was preceded in death by Amy Wright Lackey; parents, Ollie and Lilly Lackey; brother, Curtis Lackey; and sister, Dolly Shaddix all of Talladega. He is survived by four sons, Mike (Teresa) Lackey, Jeff Lackey, Byron (Jackie) Lackey, Todd (Cayla) Lackey, all of Talladega; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Barbara Lackey.

Pallbearers will be Chase Lackey, Brad Lackey, Lance Lackey, Anthony Arnold, David Stanford and Adam Stanford. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

TED GROGAN MANN

MUNFORD — Graveside Rites for Ted Grogan Mann, 70, will be Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Moore officiating. Mr. Mann died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Munford; a member of the Methodist faith; early in life, he worked as a truck driver for over 23 years where he received a safety award for one million miles without an accident. In 1985 he went to work for Talladega Road Department where he retired after 13 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Stewart; father, Cecil Mann; brother, Cecil Warren Mann. He is survived by two sisters, Linda Eisel of Munford and Mary (Ron) Roark of Pensacola, Fla.; nephew, Christopher (Jennifer) Eisel of Munford; aunt, Beatrice Grogan of Munford; several other nieces and nephews; and two puppies, Little Bit and Oreo.

Pallbearers will be Gary Sanders, Buddy Mann, Dustin Sanders, Don Stephens, Scott Stephens, and Jimmy Mann. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Wright, Buster Mitchell, Dan Colley, Jackie Herd and Joe Sanders. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

MILDRED H. PARNELL

MUNFORD — Funeral services for Mildred H. Parnell, 89, will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Munford Church of Christ with the Rev. Jeff Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Old Munford Cemetery. Ms. Parnell was a native and lifelong resident of Munford. She was a member of Munford Church of Christ. She retired from the Anniston Army Depot in 1980. She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Doris Parnell, Sarah Parnell, Billy Parnell, and Emma Parnell; one brother-in-law, Harold Woodard; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Parnell; 14 brothers and sisters; and one nephew.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Woodward, Lee Parnell, Allen Parnell, Jody Daniel, and Joe Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Ty Parnell, Wayne Parnell, Jimmy Parnell, Jimmy Bell, and Brian Parnell. Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the services.

CALVIN LEROY BLAIR JR.
SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Calvin Leroy Blair Jr., 63, of Fayetteville will be held Monday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. John Limbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery.

Mr. Blair died Dec. 15, 2007, at his residence.

He was preceded in death by mother, Pearlie Blair; father, Calvin Blair; and brother, Arthur Blair. He was the owner and operator of Rock Products for 26 years. He was a avid golfer, a member of Coosa Pines Country Club, a lifelong resident of Fayetteville and a wonderful husband, father, granddaddy and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Blair of Fayetteville; daughter, LeeAnn Mizzell of Fayetteville; stepson, David W. Jones of Fayetteville; three brothers; two sisters; and four grandchildren, Jordan and Jennifer Mizzell and Justin and Kristen Jones.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Bobbitt, Ron Johnson, Freddie Limbaugh, Jimmy Reynolds Sr., Bob Reynolds, Larry Reynolds, David Rhodes and Charlie Vick.

Honorary pallbearers will be V.J. Estes, Billy Landers, Aaron Tribble and Oneal White.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son North Chapel will direct the service.

ANNIE LOU HAMMOND

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Annie Lou Hammond, 88, of Hanover will be Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sylacauga with Shawn Cordner officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery in Hanover.

Mrs. Hammond died Dec. 14, 2007, at her residence.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Catchings of Hanover; brother, Fred Donald Miller of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Travis Jarrell of Georgia, Samantha Jackson of Weogufka, Terry Catchings of Hanover, Tommy Catchings of Hanover and Mary Jo Price of Hollins; 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

MILTON STRICKLAND

SYLACAUGA - Milton Strickland, 73, of Duncanville, Texas, formerly of Talladega, died Dec. 14, 2007.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Childersburg Mortuary.

NORMAN L. SUGGS

PELL CITY - Funeral service for Norman L. Suggs, 84, of Meridianville will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Keith Lorick officiating. Burial will be in Hardin’s Chapel.

Mr. Suggs died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Suggs. He served in Europe in World War II. He was a career sheet metal worker. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Meridianville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Melvina Suggs; son, Dennis (Georgia) Suggs; grandchildren, Jay (Elena) Suggs, David (Jennifer) Suggs and Daniel (Taylor) Suggs; and great-grandchildren, Emilia, Sydney, Sasha and Andrew Suggs.

Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.
