SYLACAUGA — Graveside service for Frances Thomas Rumsey Bell, 89, will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Young officiating. Mrs. Bell died Monday, Feb. 6, at University of Alabama Hospital. She was an Administrative Assistant to the President of Avondale Mills; served as Editor of the Avondale Sun, a nationally circulated trade paper. She orchestrated sweater knitting groups with co-workers during World War II. She also volunteered extensively with the Red Cross during the war. Mrs. Bell was an active community leader. She was President of Alabama Title and Land Company of Talladega County and was a licensed title insurance writer. She was Past President of the Sylacauga Garden Club, Past President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Cherokee Garden Club, Member of the Sylacauga Federation of Garden Clubs, Past President of the Sylacauga Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary, Past Member of the Eastern Star, Past President of the Sylacauga High School P.T.A.--instrumental in forming the Sylacauga P.T.A. Council, Member of the Sylacauga Service League, Director and Executive Board Member of the Sylacauga Beautification Council, Member of the Tohopeka Chapter of the D.A.R., Member of the Board of Directors of the Sylacauga Council on the Arts and Humanities. In addition, Mrs. Bell was a member of the Sylacauga First Baptist Church for many years, serving as the Past Superintendent of the Sylacauga Sunday School, Past Superintendent of the Junior Department of the Sunday School, and held numerous offices of the W.M.U. and Baptist Training Union. Later Mrs. Bell joined St. Andrews Episcopal Church and was an active member there. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Cayce Rumsey; brother, Samuel Bruce Thomas; sister, Virginia Thomas; and parents, Samuel and Ida Thomas. She is survived by son, Claude Cayce Rumsey Jr. of Tuscaloosa; daughter, Sherry Lynn Rumsey of Washington, D.C.; grandson, Dr. Claude Cayce Rumsey III and wife Erika of Ponte Vedre, FL, Steven Sumners Rumsey and wife Frances of Tuscaloosa, Robert Edward Fry III and wife Bailey of Birmingham, and Halcott Cayce Fry of Birmingham; granddaughter, Anna Brantley Fry and husband, John Wilson of Birmingham; and eight great grandchildren. CLYDE OWEN BLANKENSHIP

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Clyde Owen Blankenship, 76, will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. at Usrey Chapel in Talladega with the Rev. William Huffaker officiating. Mr. Blankenship died Sunday, Feb. 5, at Citizens BMC. He was a native of Clay County but had lived in Talladega County for most of his life. He was in the logging business; and a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Christine Blankenship of Talladega; daughters, Diane Murner, Phyllis Williams, Susan Marler, Tina Turner, all of Talladega, and Sheila Gentry of Cullman; sons, Dale Blankenship, Keith Blankenship, Terry Blankenship, all of Talladega, and Roy Blankenship of Munford; a sister, Claudine Cheatwood of Montgomery; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Usrey.

Pallbearers will be Keith Blankenship, Kelly Blankenship, Mike Murner, Bo Murner, Brian Marler, and Matthew Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Elder, William Blackerby, Jerry Edmiston, Mark Walker, Steve Smith, and Roy Saxon. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

N. OLEVA BOHANNON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for N. Oleva Bohannon, 82, will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Interment will be in Greenview Cemetery in Goodwater. Mrs. Bohannon died Saturday, Feb. 4, in Cook Springs. She was born in Shelby County on Oct. 31, 1923. She grew up in the Hatchett Creek community in Clay County and spent her adult life in Sylacauga. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in the Silvertones, Metallic Club, and Body Recall. Oleva volunteered for the Alabama Heart Institute in Birmingham and was on their board. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles W. Bohannon. She is survived by sons, Charles W. Bohannon Jr. (Pat) of Maryville, TN, Franklin L. Bohannon (Nancy) of Tuscaloosa, Frederick E. Bohannon of Maryville, TN; daughter, Barbara B. Adams (John) of Pell City; grandchildren, Charles III, Angela, Gayle, Larry, Alison, Laura, Leanne, and Amanda; and great grandchildren, Jimmy, Haley, Jonathan, Duncan, Sydney, and Lauren. TALLADEGA — Funeral services for James L. Gaither, 67, will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. from the Stockdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Martin Murray and the Rev. Danny Bannister officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gaither passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, at his home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. He was a retired carpenter; a member of the Stockdale Baptist Church. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nonnie Gaither; and brothers, Edward and Harvey Gaither. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Allene Gaither of Talladega; daughter, Kim Gaither Bales of Cummings, Georgia; step-daughters, Tammy Ingram and her husband Jamie, Brenda Dianne McDonald and her husband Dewayne, all of Talladega; sisters, Elizabeth Freeman, Velma Waites, Sue Lesley, Ruby Ward, and Debbie Pitts, all of Talladega; brothers, Randy Gaither, Horace Gaither, Robert Gaither, Tom Gaither, and Phillip Gaither, all of Talladega; grandsons, Scott Ingram, Derek Bales, and Eric Bales; granddaughters, Summer Ingram and Kelly McDonald; aunt, Margaret Gaither of Talladega; uncle, Hugh Hurst of Talladega; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Gaither will lie-in-state for one hour before services at the church.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. the Rev. Lindley died Monday, Feb. 6, at University of Alabama Hospital. He graduated from Herd's Gap Elementary School, B.B. Comer, and Liberty University. He was the Pastor of Grimes Chapel Baptist Church in Sylacauga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Audie L. Lindley and Icye B. Lindley; sisters, Ava Linda Lindley and Anita Lynn Lindley; and precious son, Joseph Brent Lindley. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Hill Lindley of Sylacauga; daughter, Lori Lindley Barlow of Childersburg; granddaughter, Laura Barlow of Childersburg; brothers, Archie Lindley of Fayetteville, Autrey Lindley of Sylacauga, Al Lindley of Talladega, and Steve Lindley of Tennessee. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Marble City Baptist Church. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. Mr. Mathis died Saturday, Feb. 4, at his residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Keith Mathis; a sister, Bonnie Mathis Crow; and a brother, James "Moochie" Mathis. He is survived by a daughter, Macy Mathis of Jacksonville, AL; sons, Jay Mathis of Birmingham and Cory Keith Mathis of Newnan, GA; mother, Edith Pike of Pell City; sister, Laura Diane Lawley of Ashville; brother, Johnnie Rowe of Pell City; and one grandson.

Mr. Nelson died Monday at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife Debbie Nelson; two daughters, Amy Strautman and husband Doug, and Maggie Powell and husband Jason; two sisters, Gail Wade and Vicki Thrasher; one brother, Kenny Nelson; his father, Adolph Nelson; and two grandchildren, Anna Brook Strautman and Kaden Powell. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles D. Phillips; a daughter, Stephanie McGhee and her husband, Mac; two sons, David Phillips and his wife, Dawn, and Johnny Ray and his wife, Kim; four beloved grandchildren, Jordan David Phillips, Lilyanne Phillips, Hunter Ray Phillips, and John William Phillips; her father, Macon Ray, Sr. and his wife, Hilda; a sister, Josaphine Edwards and her husband, Billy; three brothers, John C. Ray and his wife Kay, Macon Ray, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, and Donald R. Ray; and many other special family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred L. Ray.

Pallbearers will be her nephews. Mrs. Phillips was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent her entire life taking care of her family and others. Her devotion to her family overflowed to the residents and staff of Rainbow Omega, where she was employed for six years. Mrs. Phillips was also a member of Eastaboga Baptist Church. Mrs. Phillips' husband and children wish to thank their extended family and friends for their love and support throughout her illness. They would also like to thank the wonderful caregivers from New Beacon Hospice as well as Dr. Thomas Twele and his staff. Mrs. Hocutt passed away Monday, Feb. 6, at Fannin Regional Hospital. She was a native of Talladega County where she lived most of her life and had lived in McCaysville, Georgia for the past several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Talladega and was a small business owner in Talladega for some 40 years. She is survived by one daughter, Prissy Welch and her husband Wallace of McCaysville, GA; one son, Hugo Molliston and his wife Barbara of Talladega; one sister, Inez Jenkins of Talladega; four brothers, Artis Patterson of Talladega, Ray Patterson of Talladega, Bruce Patterson of Anniston, and Bill Patterson of Talladega; three granddaughters, Janie Molliston, Meg Cofield, Haley Wallace; and one great grandchild, Mali Margaret Cofield.
