HEFLIN - Odessa B. Ervin, 91, died Friday, Jan. 13, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel of Anniston.

ALPINE - Funeral service will be held for Brasfield (Preacher) Garrett, 54, on Monday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church in Alpine, Alabama, with the Rev. Keith Bernard Lawson officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery. Brasfield departed this life on Jan. 12, 2006, at his residence. He worked with Talladega Box Factory in Talladega, Alabama, for many years and played baseball with the Alpine Baseball team.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Bobbie Faye Funderburg of Talladega, Ala.; two brothers, Junior Lewis Garrett of Talladega, Ala.; Ernest Garrett of Alpine, Ala.: eight sisters, Minnie Duncan (Joe) of Alpine, Ala.; Margaret Duncan, Geralene Garrett of Alpine, Ala.; Geneva Maples (Eddie Roy) of Talladega, Ala.; Robelia Swain of Buffalo, New York; Lillie Sparks (Will) of Childersburg; Annie Hambrick (Oscar), Henrietta Chatman (David) of Atlanta, Georgia.
The body may be viewed one hour before the service at the church.
Sims Funeral Service is in charge of funeral arrangements.

SYCAMORE — Mr. Leonard Carl (Sweet Pea) Hilyer, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Services will be Monday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Jordan and Rev. Willard Frederick officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Hilyer was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad after having worked there for some 30 years. He served on the Board of Directors at Sycamore Federal Credit Union for 15 years and was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Hilyer, his sister, Martha H. Ham and a nephew, Steve Ham.
He is survived by his sister, Jessie Sumner of Sycamore, Ala.; and nephews, Charles Ham Jr. and wife Pat of Bear, Delaware, Mike Ham of Woodville, Ala., Mark Ham of Miami, Fla., and Brian Ham of Huntsville. He also leaves behind a host friends in Sycamore community.
Pallbearers will be Marshall McGrady, Chris McGrady, Jeff McGrady, Barry McGrady, Alexander McGrady and Clayton Sargent.
Honorary pallbearers will be Woodrow Thurman, Neil Denney, Lamar White, Carey Mizzell, Samuel Jackson, Donald Keel and Toney Cooksey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sycamore United Methodist Church.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

LINCOLN - Funeral services for Mr. Billy Wayne "Thang" Mitchell, 46, of Lincoln, Alabama, will be Monday, Jan. 16, 2006. at 11 a.m. at Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kelly Lee officiating. Burial will be in Chandler Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell passed away Jan. 13, 2006, at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.
Survivors are, his wife, Tina Brown of Lincoln, Ala.; his mother, Myra Martin of Lincoln, Ala.; six sisters, Angela K. Horn of Lincoln, Cheryl Arnold of Talladega, Gina Norred and Michelle Martin of Lincoln, Patty Sadek of the U.A.E. and Pam Martin of Texas; four brothers, Bobby Mitchell of Ashland, Ala., Michael Mitchell of Sylacauga, Ala., Timmy Mitchell of Lincoln, Ala., Doug Martin of Texas.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, Alvin L. Mitchell, one brother, David Martin and one sister, Pam Mitchell.
Active pallbearers are, Alan Smith, Scotty Bishop, Fred Roberts, Earl Johnson, Steve Hendon, John Gardner.
Mr. Mitchell was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. He was the owner of a painting contractor company.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Steven Douglas Tilson of, 48, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, died Jan. 13, 2006. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City, Ala.
Steve was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Jan. 24, 1957. He was employed by IBM for 20 years.
He is survived by wife: Una Weems Tilson, daughter, Loren Martha, son Ardis Redford of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Parents are Hugh and Martha Tilson of Oxford, Ala., three siblings: Hugh Tilson Jr. and wife Andrea Gore Tilson of Irmo, South Carolina, David Tilson of Birmingham, Ala., Linda Ramsden and husband Keith of Oxford, Ala., and three nieces and two nephews.
Wife’s parents are Ardis and Shirley Weems, and the late Bobbie Jean Henderson Weems of Pell City, Ala., sister-in-law, Mary Weems of Los Angeles, Calif., brother-in-law, Neal Weems of Bogalusa, La.

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mr. William "Bill" Arthur Townsend Jr., 58, of Talladega will be Monday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel with the Rev. Gary Plummer officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Townsend died Jan. 14 at his residence. He was a native of Talladega and a member of Ironaton Baptist Church. He was a member of the Toastmasters of Foley, Ala.
He is survived by one daughter, Danielle Townsend of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one son, Major Greg Townsend and wife Jennifer of Manassas, Va.; mother, Nell Townsend of Talladega, two grandchildren, Alex and Anna Townsend; two brothers, Bruce Townsend and wife Kathy of Talladega, and Robert Townsend and wife Sylvia of Talladega; one sister, Linda Reilly and husband Sean of Springville, Va.; and several nieces and a nephew.
Active pallbearers are George Sims, George Hicks, Jim McDonald, Mike McDonald, Jodie Townsend and Jim Townsend.

TALLADEGA - Funeral services for Mr. William Robert Wade Jr., 73, of Talladega will be Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Milstead officiating. Burial will follow in HillCrest Cemetery
in Munford, Alabama.
Mr. Wade passed away January 12, 2006, at his home.
Survivors are, his wife, Linda Wade of Talladega, one daughter, Rose Marie Tatum of West Palm Beach, Florida, two sons, James Franklin Wade of Ringold, Georgia, and Thomas Ray Wade of Oxford, Alabama. There are six grandchildren.

Mr. Wade was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a retired truck driver.

LINEVILLE — Funeral services for John K. Ackles, 84, will be Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Craig McClure officiating. Burial with military rites in the church cemetery. Mr. Ackles died Sunday, Jan. 22, at Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County; member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church; U.S. Army Veteran of World War II; retired from Ohio Pattern Works; a 33 degree Mason; member of Shriners. He is survived by two sons, Dr. T.L. Ackles of Woodland and Roger Ackles of Heflin; one sister, Minnie Lee Watson of Lineville; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. LENA PAYNE LEVERETTE
SYLACAUGA — Funeral services for Lena Payne Leverette, 88, will be Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Keith Pugh and the Rev. James Maddox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Leverette died Thursday, Jan. 26, at Sylacauga Health & Rehab. She was born and raised in Jefferson County, and has lived in Sylacauga since 1942. She was a graduate of Hillman Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Drummond Frasier Hospital from 1942-1947. She was a member of American Nurses Association. She had served District #4 President of Alabama State Nurses Association as well as many other offices of ASNA. She was an active member of Sylacauga BPW. She was elected by BPW Sylacauga Woman of the Year for 1992-93. She also received one of the first "Torch Awards" given by Alabama BPW. She was a member of American Nurses Foundation, member and active in American Red Cross Nurses Association, and Heart Association. She was a member and active in Sylacauga Service League and Friendship Club of Sylacauga. During her nursing career, she served as Director of Nurses at Goodwater Nursing Home 1966-74, served as instructor at Sylacauga School of Nursing 1974-82, and did industrial nursing at Alabama Ordinance 1943-44. She served as nursing supervisor at Sylacauga (Coosa Valley) Hospital and Clay County Hospital. She also did nursing service at Sylacauga Nursing Home. She retired from nursing in 1992. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sylacauga since 1946. Active member in WMU and active in Sunday school class and assisted in Church Media Library. She is survived by son, Judson Leverette of Franklin, TN; and grandson, E.J. Leverette III of Franklin, TN. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 27, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is survived by step-daughter, Patricia Ramus of Alabama; sisters, Fannie McIntosh of Columbus, GA, Juanita Guyden of Ft. Burial will be in Munford Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Stewart died Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Stringfellow Hospital. She was a native and lifelong residence of Talladega County; member of Munford Baptist Church; worked many years with Henderson Drug Store in Talladega and also Racetrack Service Station in Oxford. She was known to her customers as Mrs. Betty. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Warren Stewart of Munford; daughter, Joyce Stewart of Munford; son, Robert "Bob" Stewart and wife Becky of Oxford; sister, Berniece Fordham of Talladega; granddaughters, Dana George and husband Greg of Anniston and Tina Williamson and husband Bill of Wedowee; grandson, Josh Kitchens and wife Ashley of Southside; great grandchildren, Peyton and Cory van Ekris, Noah George, Kiley Williamson, and Rylie Kitchens; nephew, Billy Jene Wallace; and former daughter-in-law, Katie Campbell of Anniston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Turner; and parents, Minnie and Louis Hamilton. She is survived by daughter, Alice T. Chapman; brother, Tommie Hamilton; and sister, Willie B.
