TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Onnie Ellison, 71, of Talladega, is at Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Jeff Rutledge officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Ellison died Friday, Dec. 9, at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. A native and life-long resident of Talladega, he was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Mr. Ellison retired from Crown Textile and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Ellison and two step sons, Donald Eugene Howell and Larry Redford Howell.
He is survived by his wife, Vida Maude Ellison of Talladega; daughter, Vida Angela Cooper of Talladega; two step-daughters, Susan Elaine Hutto of Cropwell and Sarah Diane Howell of Helena; two sisters, Lois Hallman Murry of Talladega and Inez Treadwell of Vincent; two brothers, Lonnie Ellison of Childersburg and Jimmy Ellison of Bon Aire; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Eason, Phillip Hart, John Woodard, Hulon Phillips, Donald Bates and Ralph Haywood.
Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the funeral service.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Ivey Edgar Freeman, 93, of Sylacauga, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery
in Childersburg.
Mr. Freeman, who served in World War II, died Saturday, Dec. 10, in Sylacauga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen S. Freeman.
He is survived by one daughter, Wanda (Norman) Coffman and her husband, Norman Coffman, of Sylacauga.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

PELL CITY - Funeral service for Homer Eugene Cotton Jr., 62, will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. from Usrey Chapel with Mr. Dan Eads, Mr. Paul Hopkins, and Mr. Simon Bowen officiating. Interment will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cotton died Sunday, Dec. 11, at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Braxton Scott Cotton, and by his parents, Mary Elizabeth Foshee Cotton and Homer E. Cotton Sr. Mr. Cotton was employed with Alabama Power Company for 40 years. He was well respected within Alabama Power Company and across Southern Company for his technical vision and leadership. As manager on Real Time Systems, he was responsible for implementing the first Alabama Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring system and the Alabama Hydrological Control System. Mr. Cotton was instrumental in specifying and implementing the Southern Company Energy Management System and Alabama Power's Distribution Automation System. He was responsible for numerous advances in the applied use of technology (especially digital electronics and computer systems) for the greater good and benefit of Alabama Power Company and its customers, Southern Company, and the American Utility Industry as a whole. He was truly a visionary; pointing the way for use of digital signal processing in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems in remote telemetry and data processing. Mr. Cotton's latest achievement was in proposing and defining a new concept in Integrated Distribution Management Systems (IDMS). He was not only visionary in his thinking but could cut quickly to the real issue at hand and would often "tell it like he saw it". He was truly an Engineer at heart, always looking for technological solutions to Operations problems that improved the efficiency, working conditions, and safety for his fellow employees and for Alabama Power. Above all of his many technological achievements Homer Cotton will always be remembered not only for his brilliance and leadership, but for his care of those who worked for his and his often colorful and inventive ways describing Corporate Organizations, Titles, and reminding all of us (both high and low) that in the end we were only human and need not be overly proud. He is survived by his wife, Helen P. Cotton; sons, Dennis C. Cotton, Jeffrey S. Cotton, and Phillip E. Cotton; sisters, Judy Robinson and Brenda Cotton; brother, Ricky B. Cotton; and grandchildren, Halley Marie Cotton, Shawn Marie Cotton, Nathaniel Remington Cotton, Caitlin Leigh Cotton, Jon Tyler Jacobs, James Phillip Cotton, and Gabrielle Faith Cotton.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Benton, Don Bryant, John Brown, Rick Greene, Bruce Carter, Simon Bowen, Joe Smith, Bill Davidson, Brian Hall, Ray Phillips, and Charles Phillips. PELL CITY — Ernest "Big E" W. Furtado Jr., 29, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 11, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native of Hawaii, but moved to Pell City with his family when he was in his later teens. He was a caring and giving person through-out his life, so in keeping with this tradition, his family decided to donate his organs so other people could receive a better quality of life. He is survived by his parents, Ernest and Debra Furtado; sister and brother-in-law, Doug and Sherrie Collier; nephews, James and Jordan Collier; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
