ONNIE ELLISON

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Onnie Ellison, 71, of Talladega, is at Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Jeff Rutledge officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Ellison died Friday, Dec. 9, at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. A native and life-long resident of Talladega, he was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Ellison retired from Crown Textile and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Ellison and two step sons, Donald Eugene Howell and Larry Redford Howell.

He is survived by his wife, Vida Maude Ellison of Talladega; daughter, Vida Angela Cooper of Talladega; two step-daughters, Susan Elaine Hutto of Cropwell and Sarah Diane Howell of Helena; two sisters, Lois Hallman Murry of Talladega and Inez Treadwell of Vincent; two brothers, Lonnie Ellison of Childersburg and Jimmy Ellison of Bon Aire; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Eason, Phillip Hart, John Woodard, Hulon Phillips, Donald Bates and Ralph Haywood.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the funeral service.

GOODWATER — Ricky Russell of Goodwater died Friday, Dec. 9, in Goodwater.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Armour Memorial Funeral Home.

ASHVILLE — Ken Boyd, 88, died Friday, Dec. 9, at Medical Center East in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

IVY EDGAR FREEMAN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Ivey Edgar Freeman, 93, of Sylacauga, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Childersburg.

Mr. Freeman, who served in World War II, died Saturday, Dec. 10, in Sylacauga.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen S. Freeman.

He is survived by one daughter, Wanda (Norman) Coffman and her husband, Norman Coffman, of Sylacauga.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

PELL CITY - Funeral service for Homer Eugene Cotton Jr., 62, will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. from Usrey Chapel with Mr. Dan Eads, Mr. Paul Hopkins, and Mr. Simon Bowen officiating. Interment will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cotton died Sunday, Dec. 11, at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Braxton Scott Cotton, and by his parents, Mary Elizabeth Foshee Cotton and Homer E. Cotton Sr. Mr. Cotton was employed with Alabama Power Company for 40 years. He was well respected within Alabama Power Company and across Southern Company for his technical vision and leadership. As manager on Real Time Systems, he was responsible for implementing the first Alabama Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring system and the Alabama Hydrological Control System. Mr. Cotton was instrumental in specifying and implementing the Southern Company Energy Management System and Alabama Power's Distribution Automation System. He was responsible for numerous advances in the applied use of technology (especially digital electronics and computer systems) for the greater good and benefit of Alabama Power Company and its customers, Southern Company, and the American Utility Industry as a whole. He was truly a visionary; pointing the way for use of digital signal processing in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems in remote telemetry and data processing. Mr. Cotton's latest achievement was in proposing and defining a new concept in Integrated Distribution Management Systems (IDMS). He was not only visionary in his thinking but could cut quickly to the real issue at hand and would often "tell it like he saw it". He was truly an Engineer at heart, always looking for technological solutions to Operations problems that improved the efficiency, working conditions, and safety for his fellow employees and for Alabama Power. Above all of his many technological achievements Homer Cotton will always be remembered not only for his brilliance and leadership, but for his care of those who worked for his and his often colorful and inventive ways describing Corporate Organizations, Titles, and reminding all of us (both high and low) that in the end we were only human and need not be overly proud. He is survived by his wife, Helen P. Cotton; sons, Dennis C. Cotton, Jeffrey S. Cotton, and Phillip E. Cotton; sisters, Judy Robinson and Brenda Cotton; brother, Ricky B. Cotton; and grandchildren, Halley Marie Cotton, Shawn Marie Cotton, Nathaniel Remington Cotton, Caitlin Leigh Cotton, Jon Tyler Jacobs, James Phillip Cotton, and Gabrielle Faith Cotton.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Benton, Don Bryant, John Brown, Rick Greene, Bruce Carter, Simon Bowen, Joe Smith, Bill Davidson, Brian Hall, Ray Phillips, and Charles Phillips. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

CLARENCE FOSTER

SYLACAUGA - Funeral services for Clarence Foster, 98, will be Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel with the Rev. R.L. Morris officiating. Burial will be in Kahatchee Cemetery. Mr. Foster died Sunday, Dec. 11, at Goodwater Health Care. He was a member of Mt. Sharon Baptist Church; retired from Talladega County Road Department; and a native of Shelby County. He is survived by step-daughters, Viola Carroll of Columbiana and Aline Ivie of Tuscaloosa; step-son, Charlie Stubblefield of Oregon; step-grandson, Rick Stubblefield of Sylacauga; and a host of grandchildren. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Flora Brasher Smith, 90, will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Don Graves and the Rev. Jimmie Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Marble City Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Dec. 11, at her residence. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church and had worked at Avondale Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winston D. "Wink" Smith; daughters, Glenda Elaine Smith and Judith Gail Smith; brothers, Alger Brasher and the Rev. Lee Brasher; and sisters, Inez Whitfield and Gladys Easterling. She is survived by sons, Gary D. Smith and wife Dorothy of Sylacauga, Mickey L. Smith and wife Carol of Huntsville, Jimmy W. Smith and wife Patricia of Birmingham, and Neal Smith and wife Janice of Birmingham; brothers, Herbert Brasher of California, Buck Brasher of Vandiver, Barney Brasher of Ashville, Billy Brasher of Haleyville, Jack Brasher of Pell City, Bob Brasher of Vandiver, Ben Brasher of Birmingham, and Roger Brasher of Vandiver; sister, Francis Hill of Vandiver; nine grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Mr. Walker passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, in Talladega. He was a native and life long resident of Talladega; a member of Northside Baptist Church; a 2005 graduate of Talladega High School where he was a member of the football team; a former Babe Ruth baseball participant. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl Smith, Joan Lankford and Minnie Lou Walker. He is survived by his parents, Charlene Walker of Talladega and Robert and Margaret Walker of Talladega; sisters, Traci and Barry McDaniel of Coldwater and Krystal and Nick Ellison of Childersburg; brother, Huey Walker III of Talladega; step-sister, Samantha Sellers of Talladega; step-brother, Brandon R. Holmes of Talladega; grandfather, Robert H. Walker Sr. of Talladega; nieces, Gabi McDaniel, Kalyn Ellison, and Lacey Sellers; and nephews, Gage and Gryce McDaniel, Coltin Ellison and T.C. Heath. RAGLAND — Funeral service for Betty Jean Cannon, 76, will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Box Cemetery. Mrs. Cannon died Monday, Dec. 12, in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Cannon; and daughter, Norma Jo Seals. She is survived by daughters, Darlene (William) Lewis and Connie (Michael) Carter; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

AUBURN JUNIOR DAVENPORT

IRON CITY — Mr. Auburn Junior Davenport, 70 year old heavy equipment operator of Plantersville died Monday, Dec. 12, at his residence. He was born in Chilton County, son of the late John Davenport and the late Rosia Ray Davenport. He is survived by his wife, Janice Davenport of Iron City; daughters, Mrs. Judy K. Baker of Plantersville and Mrs. Tony Davenport of Iron City; son, Mr. Tommy Davenport of Iron City; grandsons, Eric Reed of Arkansas and Rodney Baker of Iraq; granddaughters, Natasha Reed of Arkansas, Tiffany Baker of Clanton, Jennifer Davenport of Munford; five great grandchildren; brothers, Mr. Earl Davenport of Prattville, Mr. Jimmy Davenport of Selma, Mr. Wayne Davenport of Maplesville, and Mr. Danny Davenport of Plantersville; sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Brewer of Nashville, TN, Mrs. Martha K. Mims of Clanton, Mrs. Judy White of Billingsley, and Mrs. Linda Terry of Maplesville. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and grandson, Daniel Davenport. Services will be at Plantersville Baptist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ed Fulmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Plantersville Baptist Cemetery in Plantersville. ERNEST "BIG E" W. FURTADO JR.

PELL CITY — Ernest "Big E" W. Furtado Jr., 29, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 11, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native of Hawaii, but moved to Pell City with his family when he was in his later teens. He was a caring and giving person through-out his life, so in keeping with this tradition, his family decided to donate his organs so other people could receive a better quality of life. He is survived by his parents, Ernest and Debra Furtado; sister and brother-in-law, Doug and Sherrie Collier; nephews, James and Jordan Collier; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the services.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral services for Mr. John C. Richards, 77, will be Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. from the St. Thomas United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Stryker III officiating. Interment will be in the Sylacauga Cemetery. Mr. Richards died Sunday, Dec. 11, at Talladega Healthcare. He was a native of Talladega County; a member of St. Thomas UMC; retired Baker; and served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by sister, Katie D. Williams of Sylacauga; brother, Edward Richards of Chicago, IL; host of nieces and nephews. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. Childersburg Mortuary will direct the services.

Mrs. Streeter died Thursday, Dec. 8, at Citizen's BMC. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Streeter; daughter, Deloris Starnes; and son, Tommie Lee Streeter. She is survived by daughters, Daisy Newsome of North Chicago, IL, Juanita Johnson of Birmingham, Victoria Simmons of New Jersey, Clarice Vincent of Atlanta, GA; sons, Michael Streeter of Talladega and Darrick Streeter of Birmingham; sisters, Eliza Jones of Toledo, OH, Catherine Garrett of North Chicago, Elizabeth Gooden, Dorothy Chapman both of Talladega, and Mary Lee Gooden of Munford; brothers, Wade Madden of St. Louis, MO, and Robert Madden of North Chicago; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
