ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - Funeral services for Larry Dereese Garrett, Sr., 49, formerly of Talladega, were Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Jupiter, Fla. The Rev. Reginald Davis officiated. Burial was at Mt. Carmel Memorial Park. Mr. Garrett died Monday, June 27.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. - Arthur "Dodgie" Shierling, 92, passed away on Monday, July 4, at Houston Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at First Baptist Church Centerville, with interment following in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, at McCullough Funeral Home.
Mr. Shierling was born October 30, 1912 in Talladega to the late Johnny and Lanie Shierling. After 20 years of service, he retired from General Motors in LaGrange, Ill., where he worked as an Electrician in the Electro Motors Division. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Shierling was a member of First Baptist Church Centerville. In addition to his parents, his wife, Christine DeLaney Shierling, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, sons, Billy G. Shierling, Centerville; Dan Shierling, Jr., Homosassa, Fla.; and Johnny Wayne Shierling, Palm Coast, Fla.; daughter, Brenda Morgan, Warner Robins, Ga.; twelve grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tillery died July 4 at her home. She was a native of Pike County but had lived many years in Talladega County. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Harvest Field Church. She is survived by her daughters, Irma Jean Mitchell of Ashland, Sue Marie Miller of Talladega, Deborah Ann Harris of Talladega; sons, John D. Tillery of North Fort Myers, Fla., Billy Joe Tillery of Montgomery, Larry J. Tillery of Talladega, Luther Thomas Tillery of Ozark; sisters, Irene Welch and Julia May Davis; brother, Norris Davis; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Duffee died Wednesday, July 20 in Sylacauga. He was a member of BPOE lodge in Childersburg; retired from Kimberly-Clark after some 32 years of service; married 62 years; member of the Coosa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary; honorably discharged from the U.S. Army; loved baseball, football, and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Mable Duffee of Sylacauga; daughter, Debra Thornton and husband, David of Sylacauga; brothers, Charles Duffee of Hawesville, KY. and Ronnie Duffee of Sylacauga; grandsons, Michael Johns and wife, Tamisha of Sylacauga and Lee Thornton and wife, Janice of Dallas, GA; granddaughters, Chevy Thornton and Kim Thornton of Sylacauga; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. SYLACAUGA - Funeral services for Fredrick (Ted) Eugene Ivey, 78, will be Wednesday, August 10 at 3:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will be at Marble City Cemetery. Mr. Ivey died Tuesday, August 9 at UAB Hospital.
He graduated from B. B. Comer, played football for Comer-chosen All State End; drafted by the U.S. Army right out of school before he could use an Auburn football scholarship; served as a MP in Germany and also in Japan; returned to Sylacauga to work at Avondale Mills; married Glenda Vinson in January of 1949; built first skating rink in Sylacauga; built first bowling center in Sylacauga; started in the construction business and built homes for many years while raising their five children; he built and operated the 11th Frame Club for over 30 years; he was an avid Auburn fan and a Braves fan; besides his wife and children, the love of his life was their place at the lake where he loved to fish and feed his hummingbirds.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Vinson Ivey; sons, Fredrick Eugene (Rick) Ivey, Jr. and wife, Lynda of Sylacauga and Glen Anthony (Tony) Ivey of Sylacauga; daughters, Gaye McDaniel and husband, Roger of Childersburg, Kimberly (Kim) Long and husband, Greg of Sylacauga, and Kit Ivey of Forest, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
