OLIVER JUNIOR BEARDEN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Oliver Junior Bearden, 73, will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Bloise Morris and the Rev. Vernon Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Bearden died April 22 at his residence. He was a member of Marble City Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Bearden of Sylacauga; two sons, Dwight Hurst of Sylacauga and Keith Bearden of Sylacauga; a sister, Maxine Northcutt of Sylacauga; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Owens, Henry Bailey, and James Hendon.

Curtis and Son North Chapel will direct the service.

RUBY ODELL BROWN

SYCAMORE — Funeral service for Ruby Odell Brown, 76, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tom Baker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Brown died April 22 at Sylacauga Health Care. She was a member of Sycamore First Baptist Church and was retired from Sylacauga Health Care after 26 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira T. Brown Sr.

She is survived by her sons, Tom Brown of Sycamore and Dwight Guinn of Phenix City; her sister, Beatrice Dobbs of Sylacauga; and two grandchildren, Shelby Brown and Katie Guinn.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Parker, Alvin MacNaughton, Donnie Guinn, Raymond Dobbs, Norman Dobbs, David Dobbs and Kenneth Ballard.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

CLAUDIE MAE HELMS

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Claudie Mae Helms, 86, will be Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Albert Pike and the Rev. Paul Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Helms died April 22 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Helms.

She is survived by her son, Nathaniel I. Burkett and wife Alma of Windemere, Fla.; her daughter, Frankie Helms Bassett and husband Leroy Bassett Jr. of Childersburg; a sister, Jesse Hodge of Leightsburg, Fla.; five grandchildren, Timothy Frank Bassett, Robert A. Burkett, William Eugene Burkett, Tamera Bassett Payant and Cindy Burkett Hutchison; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert A. Burkett, William E. Burkett, Robert Hutchison, Jr., Robert Hutchison III, Douglas Hodge and Byron Lane.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

WILLIE J. JENKINS

ANNISTON — Willie J. Jenkins, 71, died April 21 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

PAULINE WATSON MEDLYN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Pauline Watson Medlyn, 89, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Dan Ireland, Keith Pugh and Neil Glassar officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

Mrs. Medlyn died April 23 . She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sylacauga, was a former resident of Hoover, and was employed by Loveman’s for 43 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Burdette Medlin.

She is survived by her sons, Maj. Robert Medlin and wife Peggy of Birmingham, and George Michael Medlyn and wife Jeanette of Neptune, N.J.; sisters, Louise Watson Rambin of Birmingham, Bettye Watson McGee of Sylacauga and Gaye Watson Moore of Mountain Brook; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. The family requests memorials be made to Brookwood Hospice, 200 Montgomery Highway, Birmingham, Ala. 35216.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

CARRIE L. WALTON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Carrie L. Walton, 80, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Childersburg Mortuary Service chapel with the Rev. Porter Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Childersburg.

Ms. Walton died April 21 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center in Sylacauga. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sylacauga.

She is survived by four sisters, Viola Zachery of Sylacauga, Lessie Riggins of Sylacauga, Ella Williams of New York and Annie R. Johnson of Virginia; one brother, Robert Craig of Selma; 32 nieces and nephews; 12 great-neices and nephews; special friends at the Sylacauga Health Care; and a host of other friends.

The body may be viewed at the funeral home Thursday from 8 a.m. until service time.

Childersburg Mortuary Service will direct the service.

April 25, 2002

LILLIE E. NIX

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Lillie E. Nix, 89, of Sylacauga will be Friday at noon at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Flannigan officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Nix died April 20 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Middie J. Ward of Minneapolis.

She is survived by Cecile Richards of Chicago, Juanita Looney and Lurlean Brownsfield of Sylacauga; three sons, Robert Lewis Nix of Chicago, Earl Nix and Elward Nix of Sylacauga; 34 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Brownsfield, Darrion Brownsfield, Darrell Burns, Antonio Horton, Wheeler Looney Jr., and Raymond Woodruff.

Friends of the family will be flowerbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARY EDNA WYCKOFF

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Mary Edna Wyckoff of Alexander City will be Friday at 1 p.m. at New Elam #1 Baptist Church with the Rev. John C. Heard officiating. Burial will be in Elam #1 Cemetery.

Mrs. Wyckoff died April 21 at Lake Martin Community Hospital in Dadeville. She was born March 14, 1925, to Lizzie Beth and Martin Jones in Coosa County.

She is survived by two sons, Jesse Jones and Al Jones of Alexander City; three daughters, Marjorie Whetstone and Mary Alice Young of Alexander City and Ida Williams of Chicago, Ill.; one stepson, James W. Kelly of Goodwater; four sisters, Adell McCollough of Alexander City, Essie Lee Davis of Youngstown, Ohio, Willie Pearl Harrell and Mary Dell Poole of Chicago, Ill; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Armour Memorial Funeral Home will direct the service.
