HOMER C. BROADWELL

RIVERSIDE - Funeral service for Homer C. Broadwell, 88, will be Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Smith, the Rev. Rodney Parker and Dr. Stanley Jett officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery.

Mr. Broadwell died May 20 in Anniston. He was a native of Marshall County and lived most of his life in Anniston, until the past 17 years where he lived in Riverside. He was retired from Monsanto with 36 years of service and was a member of Eastaboga Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vista Harman Broadwell. He is survived by daughter, Sherryl Broadwell Hayes of Riverside; son, Denny C. Broadwell and his wife Shirley of Lincoln; sisters, Sadie Thomas and Zona Thomas of Boaz; grandchildren, Sheila Allen and husband Ron, Lisa Howard and husband Keith, Barry Broadwell and wife Angie, Alicia Jones and husband Rob and Jerry H. Welch II and wife Joanne; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Barry Broadwell, Jerry Welch II, Matthew Geier, Rob Jones, Keith Howard, Ron Allen, John Snodgrass and Sam Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Eastaboga Baptist Church Building Fund, 107 Church Lane, Eastaboga, Ala., 36260. Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel will direct the service.

VICTORIA CHAMBERS

NEW SITE - Service for Victoria Chambers will be Monday, May 23, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in New Site. Wright's Funeral Home.

ALBERT MARBURY

ALEXANDER CITY - Funeral service for Albert Marbury will be Wednesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at New Life Christian Center. Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

GEORGE W. MIMS

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for George W. Mims, 78, will be Monday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga with the Rev. Bill Lutz officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga. Mr. Mims died May 20. He was married 53 years, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and attended Calvary Assembly of God Church for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Hixie Mae Ellison. He is survived by his wife, Mildred C. Mims of Sylacauga; daughter, Sheila Veazey of Sylacauga; two brothers, Charlie Mims of Sylacauga and Norman Mims of Sylacauga; and two sisters, Mary Epperson of Sylacauga and Katherine Baker of Clanton. AULTON W. "DANK" MITCHELL

MUNFORD - Funeral service for Aulton W. "Dank" Mitchell, 73, will be Sunday, May 22, at 4 p.m. at Talladega Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Curtis Collett officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell died May 20 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County, was a retired iron and steel worker and was a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Nichols Mitchell of Munford; three daughters, Judy McLain of Oxford, Charlotte Williams of Eastaboga and Carrol Greene of Munford; eight sons, Steve Mitchell of Bigbee, Jimmy Mitchell of Talladega, David Mitchell of Wewahitchka, Fla., Rodger Mitchell of Wewahitchka, Fla., Johnny Mitchell of Munford, William Mitchell of Munford, Joseph Mitchell of Talladega and Guy Mitchell of Munford; two sisters, Elizabeth Gortney of Munford and Frances Strickland of Talladega; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Mitchell, Jimmy Gortney, Gary Gortney, Gary Edmondson, Allen Collett and Bryan Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Williams, Eric Williams and Jim Rhodes. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

JOHN EDWARD SIMS

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for John Edward Sims, 78, will be Monday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at Talladega Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony McGrady officiating. Burial will be in Talladega Springs Cemetery. Mr. Sims died May 21 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was a great husband, father and a wonderful friend. He was a truck driver for Floyd and Beasley and was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen Sims of Sylacauga; six sons, John Wayne Sims and wife Myrtle of Sylacauga, Edward Sims and wife Trudi of Morris Plains, N.J., Joe Sims and wife Angie of Sylacauga, Bruce Sims and wife Charlene of Clanton, Al Sims and wife Connie of Ponce De Leon, Fla., and Scotty Sims and wife Dalynn of Opelika; two daughters, Cheryl Sullivan of Sycamore and Polly Blades and husband Richard of Sylacauga; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. The body may be viewed from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:30-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Allen Sims Jr., David Sims, Austin Sims, Jimmy Sims, Josh Blades and Stacey Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Fulmer, Johnny Sims, Jeff Sims and John Wayne Sims Jr. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ANNIE R. SWAIN

TALLADEGA - Annie R. Swain, 62, of 71 Honeysuckle Lane, died May 21 at Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

TALLADEGA - George "Punch" Holland, Jr., 43, died May 25 at his residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

ALEXANDER CITY - Funeral services for Palmon Martin will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Wright's Funeral Home will direct.

JOHN LEVESTON RAGLAND, SR.

TALLADEGA - Funeral services for John Leveston Ragland, Sr., 74 of 150 Ridgewood Forest Drive, will be Saturday, May 28 at 3 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church with burial in the church Cemetery, with the Rev. John Leveston Ragland, Jr. officiating. Mr. Ragland died Monday May 23 at Talladega Healthcare Center. He survived by wife Clara Louise Ragland of Talladega; daughters Mary L Stamps, Childersburg; Mary L. Ragland, Brenda J. Ragland, Rosalind F. Ragland, Rochelle R. Ragland, all of Talladega; Denise Young, Goodwater; Edna Powell, of Munford; sons Jimmie L. Ragland, John L. Ragland, Jr., Alvin C, Ragland, Clyde Ragland all of Talladega; Andrell C. Ragland, Sylacauga; Bruce W. Ragland, Gadsden; Anthony Ragland, Michigan; brother Mason Ragland, Talladega; 40 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-7 p.m. The body will be placed at the church one hour prior to service. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

MARY ELIZABETH SMALL

BRONX, N.Y. - Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth "Cookie" Small, 60, formerly of Talladega, will be Saturday, May 28, at 1 p.m. at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. B.E. McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Small died May 19 at her residence. She was a 1963 graduate of Westside High School, a graduate of Talladega College with a B.A. degree and Columbia University with a M.A. degree. She taught in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Hunter College; was a Past Matron and member of the Esther Chapter #36 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Franklin of Atlanta, Ga.; and brothers, Elijah Small of Talladega, Gregory Franklin of Columbia, S.C., and Darryl Rice of Talladega. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

ANNIE R. SWAIN

TALLADEGA - Services for Annie R. Swain, 62 of 71 Honeysuckle Lane will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kingston Baptist Church of Alpine with the Rev. Jerome Lawson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. She died Saturday, May 21, at Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Ann Garrett of Talladega, Mary Lois (Roy) Wilson of Alpine; four sons, James Gordon (Donna) Garrett, Arthur (Diane) Swain, James Edward Garrett all of Talladega, and John Wesley (Barbara) Garrett of Alpine; two sisters, Florence Garrett of Alpine, Jannie Mae (Thomas) Swain of Talladega; two brothers, Jeff (Eloise) Garrett of Alpine, J.C. Garrett of Tuscaloosa; 12 grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. Sims Funeral Service will direct.

ARCIE WILLIAMS

SYLACAUGA - Private family service for Arcie Williams, 83, will be at Saturday, May 28, at 10 a.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Williams died Thursday, May 26, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Williams of Sylacauga, sister, Virgie Mae Scroggins of Weogufka; and several nieces and nephews. Public visitation will be Friday, May 27, from 6-9 p.m. at the North Chapel. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

EARNEST PAUL GATLIN

MUNFORD - Graveside service for Earnest Paul Gatlin, 76, will be May 28 at 2 p.m. at Coldwater Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Gatlin died May 25. Visitation May 27, 6-8 p.m. Usrey Funeral Home will direct.

RITA HETHCOX

SYLACAUGA - Rita Hethcox died Friday, May 27, at her residence. Funeral services will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home.

LAURA MAE PHILLIPS

SYLACAUGA - Graveside services for Laura Mae Phillips, 90, will be Saturday, May 28, at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga with the Rev. Brandon Baird and the Rev. Danny Bynum officiating. A Memorial Service will be at Weogufka Second Baptist Church at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.

Mrs. Phillips died May 27 at Coosa Valley Nursing Facility. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Phillips and six brothers and sisters. She served for 37 years with Coosa County School System. She was a faithful member of Weogufka Second Baptist Church and attended West Coosa Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Phillips Green of Weogufka; a son, Michael S. Phillips of Mobile; grandchildren, Jason Green and Scott Green both of Sylacauga, Michele Lane and Jay Phillips both of Mobile; and 9 great grandchildren. The family will accept flowers or request contributions be made to Weogufka Second Baptist Church, PO Box 279, Weogufka, AL 35183. Visitation will be Saturday, May 28 from 1 to 2:30pm. CHILDERSBURG - Harold Stallworth, 63, of Fayetteville Road died Thursday, May 26, at Carraway Medical in Birmingham. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

PERMEILLIA H. BYNUM

AUBURN - Funeral service for Permeillia H. Bynum, 81, is Tuesday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. William Casady officiating. Burial will follow in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Bynum died May 28 at her residence. She was a native of Talladega and a resident of Auburn. She was Baptist by faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Walker Bynum.

She is survived by one son, Jerry (Cheryl) Bynum of Jackson’s Gap; two daughters, Jenny (Thane) Bryant of Notasulga, and Judy (Max) Campbell of Huntsville; one brother, Jack Harris of Princeton; two sisters, Fay Nichols and Peggy Butler, both of Huntsville; seven grandchildren, Max Campbell Jr., Pam McCrary, Daniel Campbell, Brannon Bynum, Baxlee Bynum, Walker Bynum III, and Luke Bynum Bryant; four great-grandchildren, Zachary McCrary, Mason McCrary, Buddy Campbell and Charlie Campbell.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral.

Memory Gardens Funeral Home of Talladega will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA - Mr. Robert Ballard, 55, died Friday at his residence in Sylacauga Friday. Madden Funeral Services of Sylacauga will announce funeral arrangements later.

ELIZABETH "BETTY" HAYNES

PELL CITY - Funeral service for Elizabeth "Betty Haynes, 73, is at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pell City First Baptist Church with the Rev. A.L. Courtney, Rev. John Thweatt and Rev. Don Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Hill Memorial Gardens in Pell City.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., Monday at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City.

Mrs. Haynes died Saturday, May 28 in Pell City.

Mrs. Haynes was a member of Pell City First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She held various offices of state and local levels in the WMU organization. She also was a member and past president of the local and state Garden Clubs of Alabama.

Mrs. Haynes held offices in the Broken Arrow Chapter of DAR, and she served on the Board of directors of the Baptist Home Mission Board. She was the first coordinator of the St. Clair County Chapter of the Red Cross. She was a 1948 graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham, and a 1951 graduate of Howard College, now Samford University.

She is survived by two daughters; Ann (Keith) Haynes Murwin and Reba Carol Haynes; one son, John Edward (Sue) Haynes Jr.; brother-in-law Terry Leesburg; grandchildren, Seana (David) Alexander, Elizabeth Ann Haynes, John Edward Haynes III, Erin Marie Haynes, Kelly Ann Haynes, Dylan Russell Haynes, Kristen Elizabeth Murwin, Alexandria Lauren Haynes and Kyle Thomas Murwin; and great-grandchildren, Claire Alexander and Paul Garrett.

Kilgroe Funeral Home of Pell City will direct the service.
