BIRMINGHAM - Irene Dykes Hall, 63, of 1012 48th St., formerly of Sylacauga, died May 9 at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

FAYE HORTON

TALLADEGA - Faye Horton, 68, died May 9 at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Talladega Funeral Home.

L.R. ROSS

SYLACAUGA - Graveside service for L.R. Ross, 72, will be Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Reaves officiating. Mr. Ross died May 8 at Coosa Valley Nursing Home. Mr. Ross worked for many years in the Sylacauga area as a radio broadcaster. He was a graduate of B.B. Comer High School Class of 1952 and was a member of Mignon Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Sterling L. Ross of Birmingham and Stewart W. Ross and wife Haley of Sylacauga; sister, Mary L. Ross of Birmingham; two granddaughters, Crystal Ross and Cheyenne Ross; niece, Donna Haughton and husband James of Concord, N.C.; great-niece, Shannon Haughton of Atlanta, Ga.; and great-nephew, James C. Haughton III of Childersburg. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

MABEL T. SAUNDERS

TALLADEGA - Mabel T. Saunders, 101, of 823 West Battle St., died May 8 in Lincoln. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

CHARLES L. SEARS

HEFLIN - Funeral service for Charles L. Sears, 82, will be Wednesday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church in Heflin with Pastor Edward L. Turner officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Grove Church Cemetery. Mr. Sears died May 7 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Rena Mae Sears; one daughter, Shelia Sears (Les) Cunningham of Heflin; one step-brother, Yelvage Sears of Louisville, Ky.; two step-grandsons, Xavier Cunningham and Jamal Cunningham, both of Montgomery. The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service. Cousins will serve as pallbearers. Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

BERNICE THOMAS

ALEXANDER CITY - Bernice Thomas died May 9 at Russell Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright's Funeral Home.

SYLACAUGA - Janie Thomas, 90, of 3337 Forrest Glen Road, died May 8 at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

HUEY MICHAEL TRAVIS

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Huey Michael Travis, 65, will be Tuesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Ed Heptinstall officiating. Burial will be in Stockdale Baptist Church Cemetery in Talladega. Mr. Travis died May 7. He was a native of Piedmont and lived in Talladega the majority of his life.

He received his B.S. degree from Troy State University. He retired from the Alabama State Troopers in 1981. After retirement, he worked for Alabama Power Company. He served two tours of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion, a member of Stockdale Baptist Church and a member of the Alabama Peace Officers Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Huey Travis and Hazel Baxter Travis.

He is survived by three daughters, Debra Podoris of Childersburg, Donna Sudsberry of Pell City and Stephanie Chappell of Oceanside, Calif.; four sons, Michael Alan Travis of Talladega, Jeff Travis of Ashland, Chris Travis of Alpine and Brian Travis of Sylacauga; one sister, Carol Butler of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Charles (Gizmo) Travis of Talladega; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Michael Travis Jr., Tommy Travis, Danny Travis, Robert Stamps and Jeff Podoris. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Brown, Tommy Laird, USMC Platoon 134 and the Alabama State Troopers. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

MARY WATSON

SYLACAUGA - Mary Watson, 91, died May 9 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

FLORINE INICE BOOKER

PASADENA, Calif. - Funeral service for Florine Inice Booker will be Friday, May 13, at Scott United Methodist Church in Pasadena, Calif. Florine Inice Booker was born a two-pound preemie on Sept. 23, 1911 in Talladega to loving parents, Mary Jane Montgomery and Spurgeon Jackson. She spent her early years in Talladega, graduating from Westside Elementary and attending Phyllis Wheatley High School, which she left before graduating, to help with her younger siblings, as her mother was ill. After moving to California, she attended California School of Practical Nursing and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Florine Inice Montgomery and William Jay Booker were married Jan. 20, 1944. William and Florine were sweethearts through almost 59 years of marriage until his death in 2002.

Florine was a faithful member of Scott United Methodist Church until she was no longer able to attend on a regular basis. She was a member of the Olivett Chapter No. 10, Order of the Eastern Star, and maintained that membership until her death. She was employed as a housekeeper for Dr. Irving C. and Mrs. Shelby Rector and as a childcare provider for the three Rector girls.

Florine was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Montgomery; her father, Spurgeon Jackson; a sister, Mary Francis (Cunningham) Rankin; and a brother, William George Cunningham. She leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Milton "Pops" Cunningham Jr.; a niece, Elizabeth J. Sawyer-Cunningham and spouse, William J. Cunningham of Pasadena, Calif.; a grand niece, Valerie L. Graves of Altadena, Calif., and her son, Corey R.L. Hernandez, U.S. Navy, Virginia; a cousin, Donald Swain and spouse, Johnetta Swain of Altadena, Calif., and their son, Reginald Swain and grandson, Reginald Jr. of Altadena, Calif.; a niece-in-law, Elizabeth Anne Jackson-Davis and spouse, Mack Davis, of Baton Rouge, La., and their sons, Brandon Davis of Riverside, Calif., and Wilbert Brazille of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of relatives and friends.

SALLIE MAE CHILDERS

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Sallie Mae Childers, 84, will be Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Randall Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Childers died May 11 at RMC in Anniston. She was a native of Mississippi and a resident of Talladega since 1957. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Talladega. She was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Childers.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris Edwards and husband William of Knoxville, Tenn., and Marry Mizzell and husband Walter of Oxford; one son, John Cary Childers of Talladega; one sister, Mildred Hunt of Talladega; two brothers, Gerald Seawright of Hernando, Miss., and Bruce Seawright of Faulkner, Miss.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Edwards, Brian Childers, Wayne Mizzell, Joe Whicker, Mike Childers, Randy Hunt and Cory Reeves. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

CHARLIE HARRIS

ANNISTON - Charlie Harris, 62, died May 10. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel.

FAYE HORTON

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Faye Horton, 68, was Wednesday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Pettus officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Horton died May 9 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Crawford Horton. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Shocco Springs with 20 years of service. She is survived by three sons, Danny Horton and Stan Horton, both of Talladega and David Horton of Sylacauga; two sisters, Faustine Marcum and Ann Collier, both of Ethelsville; three brothers, Douglas Kimberly of Wetumpka, James Kimberly of Washington and Charles Kimberly of Wetumpka; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Paul Hutto, Joe Frank Hutto, Joe Sparks, Johnny Wayne Trammell, Terry Britt and Terrell Gaither. Talladega Funeral Home directed the service.

BERNICE THOMAS

Funeral service for Bernice Thomas will be Friday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at Seleeta Baptist Church. Burial will be in Seleeta Cemetery. Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA - Charlotte Boatright, 71, died May 12 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

WILLIE ALBERT BROWN

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Willie Albert Brown, 82, of 1708 W. Battle St., will be Saturday, May 14, at noon at 1st Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Milton S. Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Brown died May 9 at his residence. He was a member, Deacon and treasurer of 1st Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a retired educator, was an honorably discharged veteran of World War II and was a graduate of Elmore County Training School and Alabama A&M University.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Terry Brown of Talladega; daughter, Cordelia A. Warwick of Talladega; and two grandchildren. The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

BARRY SCOTT COKER

ALEXANDER CITY - Funeral service for Barry Scott Coker, 43, will be Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Talladega Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Lee Frost officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Coker died May 12. He was a native of Talladega and lived here most of his life. He worked for Frito Lay several years. He was a Baptist by faith. He was a graduate of Talladega High School and also attended Jacksonville State University. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Rachel Coker; and a brother, Richard P. Coker Jr. He is survived by a sister, Linda Abrams and her husband Millard of Clanton. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

DANIEL CRAIG CULPEPPER

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Daniel Craig Culpepper, 27, of Corpus Christi, Texas, a fighting cancer survivor, passed away on Mother's Day, May 8. He was born Aug. 14, 1977 in Birmingham to Dominique Schallhorn and William Culpepper.

He is preceded in death by his uncle, Bill "Sammie" Williams. He is survived by his mother, Dominique Culpepper and George Custer of Corpus Christi; his father, William Culpepper of Corpus Christi; his daughters, Stephanie and Vanessa; his half-brother, Black Dog; and his longtime friend, Gloria Alvarado; grandparents, Beverly and Bobby Jones of Alabama; aunts, Dixie Beavers of Alabama, Noelle and her husband Iain Stewart of Alabama; uncles, Phillip Beavers of Alabama, Kenneth Schallhorn and Glen Schallhorn, both of Florida; numerous cousins and great-cousins. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Pell City. Graveside service will be conducted at noon Saturday, May 14, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Daniel to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, c/o Dr. Lance Pagliaro, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas, 77210-4486 Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

ALICE LEONA KELLY FEIST

GADSDEN - Alice Leona Kelly Feist of Gadsden passed away on Saturday, May 7, after an extended illness. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Gadsden. Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Pallbearers were Fredric Warren Feist Jr., Annamaria Leona Feist, Fredric Warren Feist III, Richard Minton Feist Jr., Jack Edward Feist, Valentine Georg Assen Feist, Joe Michael Feist, John Russell Feist, Charles Samuel Kelly and Jim Neill. She is survived by her husband of almost 52 years, Dr. Fredric W. Feist Sr.; daughter, Dr. Alice Caroline Feist Calhoun; sons, Dr. Fredric Warren Feist Jr. and Dr. Richard Minton Feist; daughters-in-law, Lori Jane Dooley Feist, Karen Ann Zokoff Feist; son-in-law, James Walter Calhoun; grandchildren, Richard Minton Feist Jr., Annamaria Leona Feist, Jane Elizabeth Feist, Fredric Warren Feist III, Jack Edward Feist, Josephine Katherine Raina Feist and Valentine Georg Assen Feist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Bussey Kelly Jr. and Carolyn Ladufsia Johnston Kelly; her maternal grandparents, John Dilmus Johnston and Alice Salter Johnston; and her paternal grandparents, Richard Bussey Kelly and Leona Bledsoe Kelly.

Mrs. Feist was born on Aug. 6, 1931, in Sylacauga. She attended Sylacauga High School and Ward-Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in home economics and taught elementary school in Galveston, Texas. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Mrs. Feist moved to Gadsden in 1964. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 41 years. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Gadsden Sanctuary Fund or the American Cancer Society. Special thanks to Dr. J. Todd Cross and the other wonderful people involved in her care in the last months of her life. Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden handled the arrangements.

WYLAM - Pergie Gooden, 96, of 1114 Seattle St., died May 11 at Fairview Health and Rehab. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.
