RUTH K. LONG

HARPERSVILLE — Funeral service for Ruth K. Long, 89, will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Scott’s Grove Baptist Church in Harpersville with the Rev. Joseph Petty Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Harpersville Cemetery.

Mrs. Long died Feb. 4 at University Hospital in Birmingham.

She is survived by daughters, Mary B. Neal of Birmingham and Mary L. Haynes and Martha Myles of Harpersville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Ushers and friends of the family will serve as flowerbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from noon until 9 p.m.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

JOSEPHINE McKENZIE

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Josephine McKenzie, 97, formerly of Talladega, died Feb. 10 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

TraSHUNDEZ TARELL TRUSS-SMITH

TALLADEGA — Graveside service for infant twins LaShundez Tarell Truss-Smith and TraShundez Tarell Truss-Smith will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at noon in Knoxville Cemetery with Apostle Darryl Thomas officiating.

The infants died Feb. 10 at Citizens BMC in Talladega.

They are survived by their mother, Sherrika Truss of Talladega; father, Paul Smith Jr. of Talladega; grandmothers, Carolyn Smith of Talladega and Valerie Truss of Talladega; and grandfathers, Paul Smith Sr. of Talladega and Andre Duncan.

Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

RUBY ESTELLE WILLIAMS

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Ruby Estelle Williams, 89, will be Friday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel with the Rev. Penny Drummond officiating. Burial will be in Tallassahatchie Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams died Feb. 9 at Coosa Valley Nursing Home. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and was a former resident of the Tallassahatchie area and Millerville.

She is survived by sons, Henry Williams of San Jose, Calif., Jerry Williams of Dallas, Ga., Dexter Williams of Stewartville and Larry Williams of Alpine; daughters, Doris Hamlett of Bessemer, Gail Benton of Birmingham, Margie Carden of Sylacauga, Glenda Whitehead of Fayetteville, N.C., Maxcine Carpenter of Sycamore, Kathy Phillips of Heflin and Victoria Corson of Lineville; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

Dr. Ralph Joseph "Doc" Ratliff

Longtime Childersburg chiropractor Dr. Ralph Joseph "Doc" Ratliff died Feb 13 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.
Dr. Ratliff opened his practice in downtown Childersburg in the 1950s, where he continued to work until his death.

Dr. Ratliff was born July 29, 1925, in Blount County to Willie A. and Eula (Loyd) Ratliff.

Upon graduation from Blountsville High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17. He served two campaigns in the European and Pacific Theater during World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart and Expert Marksman Badge.

After his discharge from the Navy, he completed his education, graduating from Palmer Chiropractic College in 1950. He received one of the first chiropractic licenses to be issued in Alabama.

He married Antoinette (Toni) Rady Dec. 11, 1951, and the couple later moved to Childersburg.

In December 2004, Dr. Ratliff received his service certificate and pin honoring him for his 50 years of service in the Masonic fraternity.

He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. In later years, he enjoyed raising exotic birds and playing music with his friends.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel with Brother Tommy Bounds officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, with military honors and Masonic rites.

Dr. Ratliff is survived by his wife, Toni Ratliff of Childersburg; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Randy Guy of Childersburg; daughter, Cynthia Ratliff of Santa Cruz, Calif.; son, Joey Ratliff of Childersburg; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Larry Moxley of Madison, Ala.; grandchildren, Clay and Justin Guy, Michael and Matthew Moxley, Clint and Isabella Ratliff; and great-grandchildren, Summer and Megan Guy.

Pallbearers will be Clay Guy, Justin Guy, Michael Moxley, Clint Ratliff, Milton Blakely and Travis Harris.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

PEARL BUTLER

SYLACAUGA — Graveside service for Pearl Butler, 92, will be Thursday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. in Fayetteville Methodist Cemetery in Fayetteville with the Rev. Sherrill Green officiating.

Mrs. Butler died Feb. 14 at Sylacauga Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Butler.

She is survived by sons, Thomas F. Butler of Hamilton, Ohio and Charles M. Butler of Sylacauga; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from noon until 1:30 p.m.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

WILLIE MAE DeSHAZO

LEEDS — Funeral service for Willie Mae DeShazo, 88, was Monday, Feb. 14, at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds. Burial was in Bold Springs Cemtery.

Mrs. DeShazo died Feb. 11. She was a charter member of Valley View Baptist Church and was retired from Alabama Power Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud DeShazo.

She is survived by daughters, Mary Jo Jeter Anderson and Lou Dixon; sister, Ostella Maxey; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

THELMA HAM GOODMAN

PELL CITY — Graveside service for Thelma Ham Goodman will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. Eastern Time in Pineview Memorial Gardens in North Augusta, S.C.

Mrs. Goodman died Feb. 13 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham. She was born April 23, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vanara Jermy Smith Ham and Willie Irvin Ham; a granddaughter; a sister; and husbands, Searcy W. Moore and Harold Fowler. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pell City and a member of the DUO Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in North Augusta, S.C.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth M. Goodman of Pell City; daughters, Aloha Prather and husband Vernon of Martin, Tenn., Ann Taylor and husband Wyman of Sumter, S.C.; stepdaughters, Libby Howell and husband Jim of Aiken, S.C.; Jennifer McCroskey and husband Lynn of Birmingham and Priscilla Wright and husband Gary of Pell City; stepson, Kenneth Goodman Jr. and wife Peggy of Duluth, Ga.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; sister, Sadie Skeen of Phenix City; and brother, Willie Ham of Parks, Ariz.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

CLEMON C. GRABEN

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for Clemon C. Graben, 85, will be Friday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Lineville with the Rev. Jerry Colquett officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Graben died Feb. 14 at Clay County Hospital. He was a native of Clay County, a former resident of Birmingham and has been back in Clay County since 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for Sentell Oil Company for 32 years and was a member of Lineville Baptist Church and the Fellowship Bible Class.

He is survived by son, Carl Graben of Kimberly; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Michael Graben, Ricky Graben, David Graben, Stephen Graben, Jerry Edmondson and Walt Wilkinson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday and until service time Friday.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

LUTHER GREEN

ANNISTON — Luther Green, 67, died Feb. 14.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.
