HUBERT WILLIS ALLEN

PELL CITY — Graveside service for Hubert Willis Allen, 76, of Pell City, will be Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at Coosa Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Michael King officiating.

Mr. Allen died Wednesday. A retired member of Iron Workers Local #92 in Birmingham, he is preceded in death by his brother Johnny Allen and his sister Billie Rainey.

He is survived by two sons, Greg N. Allen and Thomas H. Allen; two daughters, Sheila J, Humphries and Trina L. Pike; a brother, Tommy Allen; a sister, Ruth Simpson; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.

ANNIE BAKER

BIRMINGHAM — Annie Baker, 44, of 340 Threatt Lane, died Feb. 3 at Baptist Montclair Hospital in Birmingham.

Funeral service will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

EMEL CANTY

ANNISTON — Emel Canty, 85, of Jacksonville died Feb. 3 at Jacksonville Health Rehab.

Funeral service will be announced by Anniston Funeral Services.

MARGARET K. DENNEY

ROCKFORD—Funeral services for Margaret Denney will be held Friday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Johnnie Rainwater officiating. Mrs. Denney died on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

She was a native of Coosa County. After retiring from Avondale Mills, she volunteered her time to sit with the disabled. She was also a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Denney is survived by one son, Ken Denney and wife, Sheila, of Rockford; two granddaughters, Cathy Gruice and husband, Ken, of Alexander City, and Summer Denney of Rockford; two grandsons, Tim Bunn and wife, Pat, of Reeltown, and Randy Bunn of Rockford; six great grandchildren, Heather and Corey Gruice of Alexander City, Drew Denney of Rockford, Matt and Ashley Bunn of Reeltown, and Allison Dennis of Alexander City; and one great, great granddaughter.

Mrs. Denney was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Skaggs; her husband, Dewey Eugene Denney; three brothers, Raymond Skaggs, Grady Skaggs and Donald Skaggs; three children, Billy Gene Denney, Shirley Denney and Charles Wayne Denney; and two daughters-in-law, Ann Denney and Mona Denney.

Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 3 from 6-8:30 p.m.

JACK HORACE DICK

LINEVILLE - Funeral service for Jack Horace Dick, 83, of Lineville will be held Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Clay County Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin P. Grice officiating. Burial will follow in Clay County Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Dick died Wednesday, Feb. 2 at Clay County Hospital.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. A graduate of Auburn University, Mr. Dick earned a bachelor’s degree in vocational education and a master’s degree in secondary education.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Clay County Board of Education for more than 30 years as both a vocational agriculture teacher and principal at Lineville High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and had been a member of First United Methodist Church of Lineville for more than 55 years.

Mr. Dick was preceded in death by his sisters, Euna Wheeles, Anna Lura Riddle and Lochie Toland; brothers, Ezra Dick, Herbert Dick, Lon Dick and Grover C. Dick; and grandson, Anthony Brian Dick.

He is survived by his wife of more than 58 years, Dorothea L. Dick of Lineville; two sons, Richard E. Dick and Thomas E. Dick; one sister, Mary Jo Horne of Ashland; and one granddaughter.

Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Dick will be his nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Clay County Rescue Squad in Ashland.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clay County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

JEANETTE WEEKS FARMER

TALLADEGA — Graveside service for Jeanette Weeks Farmer, 91, of Munford will be Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. in Munford Cemetery with the Rev. Jackie Morgan officiating.

Mrs. Farmer died Feb. 2 at Citizens BMC. She was a native of Talladega County, where she lived most of her life. She was a homemaker and a retired textile worker. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Farmer; two sons, Larry Farmer and R.C. Farmer; three brothers and six sisters.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Dean of Munford, Sarah Hudgins of Gretna, La., Loretta Turner and husband Jim of Munford, Brenda Ploegstra and husband Steve of Lake Stevens, Wash.; one sister, Lurelne Rudd of Sylacauga; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

ANNIE MAE GAMBLE

GOODWATER—Funeral service for Annie Mae Gamble, 92, of Sharon, Penn., formerly of Goodwater, will be Saturday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Goodwater with the Rev. Thomas Bullock officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Home Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Gamble died Jan. 28 at her home. A native of Clay County, she is preceded in death by her parents, Prince Carmichael and Emma Craig Carmichael.

She is survived by two daughters, Nell Dawson of Sharon and Brenda Johnson of Warren, Ohio; two sons, Robert L. Gamble of Warren and Norman Gamble of Goodwater; one sister, Irene Gunn of Goodwater; one brother, J.T. Carmichael of Goodwater; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home of Alexander City will direct the service.

FELIX GARRETT

SYLACAUGA — Felix Garrett, 59, of 1464 Pine Grove Road, died Feb. 3 at Baptist Montclair Coosa Valley.

Funeral service will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

CHARLEY WESLEY GOVER

CROPWELL—Funeral service for Charley Wesley Gover, 83, of Anniston, will be Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Hobson City with Pastor Torrail Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery in Cropwell. The procession will leave from Ervin Funeral Chapel at 1518 Brown Street in Anniston at 12:20 p.m.

Mr. Gover died Jan. 28 at Opelika Care Center in Opelika. After serving in the U.S. Army, he was employed by the Anniston Army Depot until his retirement in 1983. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Pell City, where he served as a deacon. After relocating to Anniston, he united with the Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Hobson City, where he served faithfully until his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Gover of Moody; one daughter, Anne Sanders of Alexander City; one sister, Nollie Mae Waites of Pell city; one step-son, Billie Joe Ledford of Los Angeles; and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends at the church two hours before the service.

Ervin Funeral Chapel will direct the service.

ALBERT HAY

ROANOKE — Funeral service for Albert "Ed" Hay, 73, was Thursday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Shannon Mapp officiating. Burial was in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Hay died Feb. 2 at East Alabama Medical Center. He was a native of Elmore County and a member of Central Baptist Church in Lanett. He was retired chief of police for the city of Wedowee. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Hay.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Stewart Hay of Roanoke; one son, Charles Hay of Valley; two daughters, Stacy Mapp of Roanoke and Barbara Ann Bachman of Bainbridge, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Sherry Conville, Vicky Vincent and Crickette Ballard of Sylacauga; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Quattlebaum Funeral Home directed the service.

RUBY LEE HAYES

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Ruby Lee Hayes, 78, of Ashland will be Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Church with the Revs. John Luckie and James J. Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Hayes died Feb. 2 at Baptist Montclair Hospital in Birmingham. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Norma Lee Bryant of Ashland; two sisters, Ertis Wolfe of Ashland and Dorothy Hayes of Montgomery; one brother, Buck Williams of Wadley; four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland will direct the service.

FLORENCE EDITH WILSHAW

OCALA, Fla. — Memorial service for Florence Edith Wilshaw, 91, will be Monday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal of Ocala, Fla.

She died Feb. 2 at Estelle House in Ocala, Fla. She was born in Blackpool, England, and lived in Sylacauga before she moved to Ocala, Fla., in 1988. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Ocala, Interfaith Emergency Services of Ocala, Episcopal Church Woman, Daughters of the King of Ocala and was a past president of the Pilot Club in both Ocala and Sylacauga.

Mrs. Wilshaw participated in the Boy Club of Sylacauga, and enjoyed the theater and the symphony. She was an avid reader and a past member of First Presbyterian Church of Sylacauga. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Walter J. Wilshaw, and her sister, Minnie "Mickey" Sekreta.

She is survived by her daughter, Judi Smith of Ocala, Fla.; her son, Paul Wilshaw of Pensacola, Fla.; her sister, Bertha Nagle of Connecticut; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church of Ocala in memory of Mrs. Wilshaw.

Roberts Funeral Home in Ocala, Fla., will direct the service.

GEORGE YOUNG

DADEVILLE — Funeral service for George Young, 79, of Dadeville will be Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. George H. Pulliam officiating. Burial will follow in Dadeville City Cemetery.

Mr. Young died Jan. 31 at Dadeville Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eel and Lelar Young.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo (Otis) Taylor of Dadeville; a sister-in-law, Ruth Young of Montgomery; four nieces, Mary H. Powell of Alexander City, Shirley (Larry) Woodyard, Delois Pogue and Barbara Pearson of Dadeville; three nephews, Tommy Young Jr. and Eugene Pearson of Jackson’s Gap and Al Rowe of Alexander City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wright’s Funeral Home will direct the service.
