DALE BRANSON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Dale "Doc" Branson, 44, of Sylacauga, will be Monday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Branson died Jan. 14 in Sylacauga. He worked as a construction worker for the past 25 years, and traveled extensively across the United States. He was a member of Marble City Baptist Church. All who knew him loved his zest for life and living it to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert L. "Buddy" Branson.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Branson of Sylacauga; his mother, Audrey Branson of Sylacauga; one brother, Wayne Huff of Orange Beach; two sons, Chris Wallis of Opelika and Brad Wallis of Sylacauga; one niece, Ashlie Weeks of Atlanta; and four grandchildren, Sloane Wallis, Lane Wallis, Dusty Wallis and Hannah Wallis.

Active pallbearers will be "The Creek Road Gang:" Kevin "Sparky" Wood, Steve "Cogs" Cardwell, Michael Sayers, Roger Martin, Harold "Chuckie" Hickman, Don Taylor and Mark "Pete" Fulmer.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Joiner, Paul Remson, Buddy Patton, Tony Patton, Walls "Junior" Aaron and Russell Fulmer.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel.

Curtis and Son North Chapel will direct the service.

JOSEPH MICHAEL CAMP

MUNFORD — Funeral service for Joseph Michael "Mike" Camp, 47, will be Sunday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega with Cliff Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Camp died Jan. 14 at Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Munford, was a Baptist by faith and was a self-employed painter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Camp Stephens.

He is survived by daughters, Debra M. Smith and husband Craig of Munford and Brittni Camp of Munford; sons, Joey Camp and Brent Camp of Munford; his father, Guy Stephens of Munford; sister, JoAnn Thompson of Munford; and two grandchildren, Makayla Camp and Jacob Smith of Munford.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Dean Camp, Jerry Sanderson, Johnny Adams, Clark Davis, Dickie Holcombe and David Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Wright and Bryan Thomas.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

GRADY LEE GREATHOUSE

CAMP HILL — Funeral service for Grady Lee "Bubba" Greathouse, 59, of Jackson’s Gap, will be Monday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. George Pulliam officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Camp Hill.

Mr. Greathouse died Jan. 13 at Bethany House. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Greathouse.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Greathouse of Detroit; his mother, Myrtis Greathouse of Jackson’s Gap; seven children, Sandra L. Walker and Tammy Stanford, both of Highland, Mich.; Felicia A. Walker of Dadeville; Damon Crayton of Alexander City; James F. Bentley of Newsite; Carlatrena M. Walker of Birmingham, and Grady F. Walker of Kellyton; two sisters, Mae Ruth Johnson of Jackson’s Gap and Bettye D. Belyeu of Alexander City; one brother, Joe Nathan Greathouse of Jackson’s Gap; 16 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Wright’s Funeral Home will direct the service.

THEO MOORE

ANNISTON — Theo Moore, 33, of Miami, formerly of Anniston, died Jan. 14 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

OVEDA SEXTON PAYNE

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Oveda Sexton Payne, 82, of Sylacauga, will be Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel with Dr. Todd Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Payne died Jan. 15 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hilltoppers, United Methodist Women, Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class, and was a former member of the Matrons Study Club and the Sylacauga Service League. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. "Bill" Payne.

She is survived by two sons, Tim Payne and his wife Fran of Birmingham and Ron Payne and his wife Carol of Sylacauga; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

SEMUS WALKER

ANNISTON — Semus Walker, 91, of Bynum, died Jan. 14 at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Home.

RUBY AGNES HICKS BUCKNER HOLMES

Holmes, Ruby Agnes Hicks Buckner, age 95, died January 16, 2005 at the Huntsville Hospital. She was born in Birmingham, AL, on November 28, 1909. In 1945 she moved to Talladega where she resided until she moved to Huntsville in 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Rufus Alton Buckner. She later married Otis R. Holmes, who also preceded her in death in 2000.

Ruby Holmes was a remarkable woman who had a full active life. She was an annual competitor at the Alabama State Fair in the homemaking division and came home with multiple ribbons each year. She studied piano in her forties, took diving lessons in her fifties, traveled across country in her sixties, seventies, eighties and in her nineties, with her second husband Otis, traveled throughout the country and as far away as Hawaii and Mexico to build churches with Campers on Mission. Her sense of humor and her love of life are the legacy she leaves to her family.

She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church in Talladega and was active in all phases of the church’s life. She was a long time member of the Talladega Home Demonstration Club where she won many awards in their sewing and cooking competitions. She was in the Senior Citizens Rhythm Band and loved performing at functions in the area.

She is survived by three sons: Charles A. Buckner (wife, Edna) of Birmingham, Gary N. Buckner (wife, Ida) of Huntsville and Robert W. Buckner (wife, Jeanne Hope) of Austin, TX; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Talladega Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 18, at 10 o’clock with the Rev. Chet Rhoden officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Southside Baptist Church, 400 Christian St., Talladega, AL 35160 or the charity of your choice.

Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

BETTY DAVIS RENDA

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Betty Davis Renda, 67, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Harvey Bowlin Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Renda died Jan. 16 at her residence. She was a native of Jefferson County and had lived in Talladega since 1967. She was a member of Trinity Lighthouse Church of God. She was the co-owner of Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Casey Renda; and two grandchildren, Zoe and Hope Renda.

She is survived by her husband, John Renda Sr.; sons, John Renda Jr. (Gina), Mark Renda (Terri), Tim Renda (Teresa) and Cooley Horn (Gina); daughters, Nina Bills (Joe) and Cheri Harris, all of Talladega; 12 grandchildren, Angela, Amaris, Zapharah, Zachariah, Daniel, Justin, Kayla, Leah, Kristin, Alan, Jessica and Seth; and two great-grandchildren, Reagan and Ty.

Pallbearers will be Randy Covington, Chris Covington, Anthony Covington, David Covington, Joe Reneman and Bo Reneman.

Honorary pallbearers will be all her remaining nephews.

A special thank you to Alacare’s nurses Renee, Cheryl, Laura, Carolyn and Vanessa.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.

VIRGINIA JUANITA BAIN BARNETT

OAKLAND, Tenn. - Funeral service for Virginia Juanita Bain Barnett, 76, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Christian Church in Collierville, Tenn. Burial will be in Bethany Christian Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnett died Jan. 14. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, O.J. Barnett; daughters, Jenny Bryan of Collierville, Tenn., and Pat Williams of Talladega; sister, Lillie Mae Godwin of Cordova, Tenn.; brother, Paul Bain of Dunnellon, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Miss., will direct the service.

JAMES RAY BUSH

ASHLAND - Funeral service for James Ray Bush, 59, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at Clay County Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bruce Willis officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Bush died Jan. 16 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was a native of Tallapoosa County and had lived in Coosa County before moving to Clay County 35 years ago. He was self-employed and owned Bush Backhoe Service. He was a member of the Ashland Water Authority, Veterans of Foreign Wars and First Baptist Church in Ashland.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bush of Ashland; daughter, Reba Patterson of Ashland; son, Kevin Tomlin of Ashland; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bob Allen, Larry Hallman, Gary Reynolds, Mickey Brown, Josh Nelson and Van Mattox.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Clay County Water Board and the Ashland Water Authority.

Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

FRANK EDWIN CULPEPPER

HOLLINS - Funeral service for Frank Edwin Culpepper, 78, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Tom Hilyer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Weogufka.

Mr. Culpepper died Jan. 15 at Russell Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Arrie Culpepper Wilson; his stepfather, William "Aud" Wilson; his sister, Gladys Marlowe; and his grandson, Zach Culpepper.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah Culpepper of Hollins; sons, David Culpepper of Gainesville, Ga., Danny Culpepper of Goodwater and Joseph Culpepper of Moody; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Morton, Daryl Perry, Lenn Perry, Josh Culver, Mark Stokes and Chris Culver.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, French Perry, Mac McBryar, Ernest Perry, Leonard Perry and Jimmy Culver.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.
