Taffee
Funeral Mass for the Rev. Mr. William "Bill" F. Taffee, Jr., 82, of Anniston, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Cathedral of Saint Paul in Birmingham, with Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5-7 tonight at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anniston. The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Entombment will be at Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston.
Deacon Taffee died early Wednesday, March 9, surrounded by love, with his family by his side. His death follows a long illness. He is preceded in death by two of his children and survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois; two children; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Deacon Taffee was born in Calhoun County, Michigan in 1922 and lived in Anniston, Ala. from 1964 until his passing. A retired chemical engineer and a Permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church, he was active in many civic and fraternal organizations, especially the Knights of Columbus in which he served as State Deputy. His warm smile, wisdom, wit, and firm handshake (which doubled as a hug), will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to any of the following: Girl Scouts of America Cottaquilla Council, Boy Scouts of America Choccolocco Council, Sacred Heart Building Fund, Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County Children's Department, Saint Paul's Cathedral Capital Campaign, or any other organization or charity that can benefit from a donation made in Deacon Taffee's honor.
Taylor
PIEDMONT — Services for Kathleen "Granny Bunch" Taylor, 86, of Piedmont will be 2 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Doyal and the Rev. James Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery
with Thompson Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include four daughters, Pearlie Surrett, Jean Carroll, her husband Tommy; and Myrtis Atkins, her husband Larry, all of Piedmont, and Rubye Harbin, her husband Jerry, of Tuscaloosa; two sons, Howard Lee Taylor and George Taylor, his wife Peggy, all of Piedmont; a sister, Gladys Minter of Calhoun, Georgia; two brothers, Howard Motes and Bill Motes, both of Piedmont; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Nellie Hanson.
Pallbearers will be Marty Messer Jr., Taylor Broome, Henry Taylor, Brian Taylor, Shane Messer and Jeff Rigsby. Mrs. Taylor was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont. She was of the Congregational Holiness faith and was crowned Mrs. Piedmont Health Care in 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. L. Taylor; two sons, Curtis Taylor and John Taylor; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Thompson
Services for Carol Thompson will be 2 p.m. Today at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. Keith Merrit officiating. Family will receive friends from noon til service time.
Turner
TALLADEGA — Graveside services for Mr. Grover Cleveland Turner, 90, will be 12 noon Saturday at New Hope Church Cemetery
in Sylacauga with Pastor Bobby L. Harris officiating and Sims Funeral Service in charge. Processional will leave the funeral home at 11 a.m. Mr. Turner died Monday at Beverly Ingram Health Care in Pell City. He is survived by four daughters, Alma T. McKenzie of Talladega, Mary L. Henderson of Ragland, Billie N. Turner of Cleveland, Ohio, Eva M. Turner of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; six sisters, Ada Beebe of Red Springs, N.C., Luster B. Braves of Cincinnati, Ohio, Stella Lasley, Mona Wells, Annie Kings, Sadie Looney, all of Sylacauga; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. The family's request is to receive NO Food.
Turner
TALLADEGA — Services for Lois M. Turner, 61, of Talladega will be announced by Anniston Funeral Services. Mrs. Turner died Thursday at Regional Medical Center, in Anniston.
Whitson
TALLADEGA — Services for Ms. Catherine Whitson, 29, of Talladega will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary. Ms. Whitson died Wednesday at her residence.
Zimmerman
ROXBURY, Mass. — Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Zimmerman, 74, of Roxbury, Mass., formerly of Anniston, will be Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Anniston, with the Rev. Quintin P. Woods officiating. Burial will be at Eden Hills Cemetery, in Anniston, with Anniston Funeral Services in charge. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the services. Mrs. Zimmerman died Sunday, March 6, 2005, in Roxbury, Mass.
Survivors include her husband, Ananise Zimmerman, of Anniston; two sons, Ananise Zimmerman, Jr. and Roosevelt Zimmerman, both of Massachusetts; two daughters, Rugenia Zimmerman and Anna Stoudemire, both of Massachusetts; three sisters, Cora Lee Robinson, of Gadsden; Mary Lois Butler, of Cleveland, Ohio; Bertha Barker, of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Mrs. Zimmerman was a native of Alabama and a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church before moving to Massachusetts. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Massachusetts. The family will receive flowers. Anniston Funeral Services are in charge of the services.

Crow
ANNISTON - Graveside services for Mrs. Grace G. Crow, 88, of Anniston will be Today at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln City Cemetery
in Lincoln, with Dr. Bobby Green and the Rev. Dan Brown officiating and Gray Brown Service Mortuary & Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 today at the funeral home. Mrs. Crow died Friday at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mavis Griffin of Lincoln, two nieces, Susan Younger of Olathe, Kan. and Betty Bishop of Jacksonville, two nephews, Bill Griffin of Dora, and Bobby Griffin of Lincoln, five great nephews and 2 great great nephews.

or The First United Methodist Church in Anniston or to a favorite Charity. Mrs. Crow was a native of Lincoln. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Anniston and a member of the Neysa Coker Sunday School Class. Mrs. Crow was a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing. She enjoyed a long career in nursing and after retirement she worked as a volunteer Pink Lady at RMC. She was preceded in death by her husband J.D. "Snooks" Crow, her sister, Irene Collins and her brother Curtis Griffin.
Payne
PIEDMONT - Services for Glenda Sue Payne, 57, a former native of North Carolina will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Jordan Funeral Home with Jerry Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight. Mrs. Payne died Thursday at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Bryson, Lloyd Rice, Buddy Holbrook, Sammy Singleton, Jimmy Donaldson, Cale Donaldson and Steve Kirschbaum.
Survivors include her husband, David Payne, of Piedmont; 2 daughters, Leasa Ash, of Atlanta GA., Jennifer Kirschbaum, of Roswell, GA.; a brother, J.B. Prince, of Greensboro, NC.; three sisters, Clara Roland, Tampa, FL., Naomi Campbell, of Mena, Arkansas, Rita Rice, of Brevard, NC.; and 3 grandchildren. Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late James and Arlesa West Prince. She was of Baptist faith and a homemaker.
Perry
ANNISTON - Services for Odell Perry, 49, of Anniston will be announced by Goodson Funeral Home. Mr. Perry died Friday at his residence.
Simpson GADSDEN - Mr. James E. Simpson, age 82, formerly of Piedmont, died Saturday March 12, 2005 at McGuffey Healthcare Center in Gadsden. A native of Calhoun County, Mr. Simpson was born on April 23, 1919, the son of the late Grade & Pearl Doyal Simpson. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Betty Rainey Simpson in 1998. Mr. Simpson was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his son, Mr. Terry Simpson of Piedmont; a daughter, Mrs. Jane S. Johnston, of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Heith Simpson, Dana Simpson, Stephanie Johnston and Amber Johnston.
Funeral services for Mr. Simpson will be conducted Monday, at 11 a.m., from the chapel of Folsom-Mickelsen Funeral Home with the Rev. Orville Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Gnatville Cemetery
with military honors. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. and they include, Ray Fagan, Austin Odom, William Maddox, Mike Atkinson, Mike Naugher, and Ed Langley. Folsom-Mickelson Funeral Home of Piedmont has charge of the arrangements.

NORTHPORT - Services for Dr. Luther Charles Sprayberry, 83, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Northport Baptist Church with Dr. John Nixon, the Rev. Jim Hamm, and the Rev. Michael Miller officiating and Sunset Funeral Home in charge. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-8 tonight at the funeral home. Dr. Sprayberry will lie in state an hour prior to the service. Dr. Sprayberry died Friday at Northport DCH and is preceded in death by Betty Sprayberry.
Survivors include his wife Helen, three daughters, Julie Standish, her husband Walter, Tina Sprayberry, Carolyn Bell; five sons, Stan Sprayberry, Eric Sprayberry, his wife, Janet, Byron Sprayberry, his wife, Susan, Jeff Sprayberry, his wife, Marsha, Charles Bell; a brother, Virgil Sprayberry, and his wife, Linda.
Pallbearers will be Eric Sprayberry II, Brett Sprayberry, Zachary Boyd, Cody Sprayberry, Chad Sprayberry, Chris Sprayberry, Chase Sprayberry, Adam Boyd and Hudson Standish. LOS ANGELES, CA - Services for James Thomas Woodruff, 58, of Los Angeles, CA., formerly of Jacksonville, will be 12 noon Monday at First Baptist Church Jacksonville in Jacksonville, AL. with the Rev. Jeffery Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery
with Anniston Funeral Services in charge. The family will receive friends from 5-7 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Woodruff died Tuesday at Kiser Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Alberta Woodruff, and a son, James Thomas Woodruff III, of Los Angeles, Calif., two daughters, Bridgett and LaNadra, both of Anniston; a sister, Alfreda Morris, of Jacksonville; his mother, Florence Woodruff, a brother, Godfrey Sampler, both of Jacksonville, two very special brothers, Ralph Herrell, of Los Angeles and Clinton Magby, his wife Otis, of Atlanta Ga.; nine grandchildren; a nephew, Carlos Sampler, a niece, Tonya Sampler, both of Gadsden.
Pallbearers will be Cobb Class of 1965. Mr. Woodruff was a native of Jacksonville and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, graduated from Cobb Avenue High School in 1965. He attended A&M University and then joined the U.S. Army for 3 years, during the Vietnam Era. The he retired from the County of Los Angeles after 25 years of service, then worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Elizabeth Woodruff Sampler, his father, Samuel Robert Woodruff and a brother Carl Sampler.

Adams
ANNISTON - Anne Whitney Smith Adams passed away Easter morning, March 27, at the age of 101 years old. It was her wishes to give her body to the Anatomical Donor Program, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mrs. Adams was living at NHC Healthcare in Anniston at the time of her death.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Robert Scott, of Chico, Calif.; and local caregivers, Elizabeth Richardson and Charles Everett. Mrs. Adams, a native of Richmond, Ky. and resident of Anniston, was a member of Grace Episcopal Church on Leighton Avenue, in Anniston. She was last employed at Anniston Academy (now Donoho), where she taught Latin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Presley S. Adams.
Bowden
OHATCHEE - Services for Mr. Nathan A. Bowden, 78, of Ohatchee, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Gray Brown Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6-8. Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery
in Ohatchee with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bowden died Friday.

Flemmons
TALLADEGA - Funeral services for James H. "High Ninety" "Slim" Flemmons, 82, of Talladega will be today, 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Anniston, with the Rev. Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Green's Chapel on Highway 9 in Heflin. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Flemmons died Wednesday at Baptist Montclair in Birmingham. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Resch of Columbus, Ga.; son Steve Flemmons and wife, Becky, of Anniston; and special friend Hazel Johnson of Talladega; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Frank Chastain, Wren Heath, Eli Henderson, Willie Carpenter, Eddie Jacobs and Norman Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers will be Union Foundry Retirees Breakfast Club, Reiber Heath, Hargas Jackson. Mr. Flemmons was a native of Heflin and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He retired from Union Foundry with 30 years of service. He was an avid supporter of Wellborn Athletics and was a member of First Brecon Baptist Church of Talladega.
Heflin
TUSCUMBIA - Howell Thomas Heflin, 83, of Tuscumbia, Ala., died March 29. He was born on June 19, 1921 to the late the Rev. Marvin Rutledge and the late Louise Strudwick Heflin in Poulan, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Heflin; his son, Howell Thomas Heflin, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Cornelia Hood Heflin; his grandson, Wilson Carmichael Heflin; his granddaughter, Mary Catherine Heflin. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Carmichael Heflin; his brother, Wilson Lumpkin Heflin, Ph.D. and his sister, Julia Clarke Heflin. Senator Heflin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tuscumbia, Ala.
He was a U.S. Marine having served in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1948 until 1971. He was an Attorney-At-Law in Tuscumbia. He was then elected Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and was privileged to serve three terms in the United States Senate. He retired from public service in 1997 and returned to home in Tuscumbia.
Senator Heflin graduated from Colbert County High School in Leighton, Ala. in 1938 and graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific where he was twice wounded and where he received the Silver Star. After World War II, he attended the University of Alabama School of Law and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1948.
In accordance with his wishes, a private burial will be held. There will be a Public Memorial Service on Sunday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at Deshler High School Auditorium, 200 N. Commons, Tuscumbia, Ala. Visitation will follow at the Winston Home, Tuscumbia, Ala. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial be made either to the First United Methodist Church, 104 E. Third Street, Tuscumbia, Ala. 35674; Grace Episcopal Church, 103 Darby Avenue, Sheffield, Ala. 35660; or Colbert Caring Center, 102 N. Water Street, Tuscumbia, Ala. Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia directing.
