JOHN L. SHELTON JR.

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for John L. Shelton Jr., 58, of Talladega will be held Monday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. B.E. McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Garden.

Mr. Shelton died July 8 in Leeds. He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Shelton of Jacksonville; his mother, Lillian Shelton of Talladega; one sister, Linda Shelton of Anniston; two brothers, Howard Gregory Shelton of Hoover, and Marshall Lee Shelton of Talladega; one grandson, John Shelton of Talladega; and a host of other relatives.

Shelton was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He also was a member of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be John R. Twymon, Manchester Armbrester, James Williams, Woodrow Wilson, Ramber Montgomery, Kenneth Dickerson, Erskine Bell and Greg McKenzie.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

MYRTLE BLOCKER CULVER

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Myrtle Blocker Culver, 81, will be Sunday, July 18, at 3:30 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Tommy Reaves and the Rev. Sonny Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Culver died July 16 at her residence. She was a member of Marble City Baptist Church where she was a member of the Hope Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Go Group at Frontier Bank. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Blocker. She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy R. Culver; her sister, Carolyn White; and her stepmother, Sadie Heaton Blocker. She retired from Pinecrest lunchroom after 15 years of service.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rudolph Culver of Sylacauga; daughter, Peggy C. Boothe of Sylacauga; son-in-law, Tom Boothe of Sylacauga; sister, Evelyn Hardy of Phenix City; brother, Harland Blocker of Blountsville; sister-in-law, Jenny Blocker of Blountsville; grandchildren, J.J. Culver and wife Rachel of Stockbridge, Ga., Leah Boothe of Gainesville, Fla., Marc Boothe of Sylacauga, Matt Boothe of Sylacauga and Jodi Gamel and husband Billy of Sylacauga; great-grandchildren, Brady Gamel and Kristen Gamel; daughter-in-law, Linda Culver of Munford; special care giver, Sandra Williams of Sylacauga.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will receive flowers or suggests contributions to Marble City Baptist Church Building Fund.

Pallbearers will be Ray Harris, Kendall McConatha, Preston Ousley, Ray Faulkner, Blois Payton and Bill Haisten.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

OLIVER JULIAN HAYNES

BIRMINGHAM — Graveside service for Oliver Julian Haynes, 80, will be Saturday, July 17, at 10 a.m. at Halls Cemetery in Refuge in Talladega County with the Rev. Dewey Wilhite officiating.

Mr. Haynes died July 15 at Prince Place in Trafford. He was a native of Lincoln and lived in Birmingham for the past 60 years. He retired from U.S. Steel in 1980. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of United Steel Workers Local No. 1013 at U.S. Steel.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie R. Haynes of Birmingham; daughter, the Rev. Vickie R. King of Hayden; sisters, Ruby Moses, Betty Ruth Jackson and Kathleen Fisher, all of Lincoln, Anna Rose Tannozzini of Baltimore, Md., Alma Sanders of Irondale and Lucy Letlou of Birmingham; brother, Charlie Haynes of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

JEWEL ARANT

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Jewel Arant, 87, will be Saturday, July 17, at 3:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Tommy Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Arant died July 15 at her residence. She was a longtime employee of Avondale Mills.

She is survived by brother, George McEwen of Sylacauga; and sister, Mary Gilliland of Sylacauga.

Pallbearers will be Lance Cabaniss, Ashley Cabaniss, Chris McEwen, Jimmy McEwen, Bobby McEwen and Stan McEwen.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

MYRTLE CULVER

SYLACAUGA — Myrtle Culver, 80, died July 16 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

GRACE B. HAYES

PIEDMONT — Graveside service for Grace B. Hayes, 78, will be Saturday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Munford Cemetery in Munford with Robert Hayes III officiating.

Mrs. Hayes died July 15. She was a native of Talladega County and was a Baptist by faith. She worked at General Electric in Oxford and retired from Citizens BMC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hayes; three sisters, Ollie Butterworth, Thelma Lackey and Ella Lee Johnson; and one brother, Alvin Bussey.

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Gail Hayes of Piedmont; sons, Dan Hayes of Piedmont and Bobby Hayes of Munford; and grandchildren, Robin Gurganus of Tuscaloosa and Robert Hayes III of Jacksonville.

Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Brandon Gurganus, John Bussey and Bobby John Fuller.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

DIANN KELLEY

MUNFORD — Graveside service for Diann Kelley, 56, will be Sunday, July 18, at 12:30 p.m. in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Carr officiating.

Mrs. Kelley died July 15 at Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Calhoun County and was a resident of Munford for 25 years. She was employed with Anniston Sportswear and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lynn Kelley; and her father, Andrew Conner.

She is survived by her husband, Grady Kelley of Munford; son, Michael Kelley of Jacksonville; her mother, Betty Brown and stepfather, Leon Brown of Jacksonville; sisters, Marie Conner Cupp and Vicki Conner Morgan of Eulaton and Dawn Conner Young of Brilliant; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Dann Cupp, Chris Morgan, Steffan Young, Doug Kelley, Arcus Castaneda and Andy Kelley.

Miller Funeral Home will direct the service.

OTIS MAXWELL

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Otis Maxwell, 77, will be Saturday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Cross Key Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy Holley officiating. Burial will be in Cross Key Cemetery.

Mr. Maxwell died July 14 at Adams Nursing Home.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Maxwell of Alexander City; sons, Kevin Maxwell, Keith Maxwell and Rodney Maxwell of Alexander City; daughter, Betty Jean Maxwell of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

DONAVAN MIMS

ANNISTON — Donavan Mims, 20, died July 15.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

ZANNIE MAE WILSON

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Funeral service for Zannie Mae Wilson, formerly of Talladega, will be Saturday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Belview Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Wilson died July 11 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Edward Wilson.

She is survived by nieces, Frances (David) Rudolph, Genora Crawford and Debra Fuller, all of Rochester; nephews, Eddie Fuller, Willie Fuller and James Fuller, all of Rochester; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.
