Wells

COLLINSVILLE - Services for Ellen G. Wells, 90, of Collinsville, formerly of Anniston, will be 4 p.m. Friday at New Testament Church in Portersville with G.A. Hamby officiating and 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Bessemer with Rev. Lawrence Harris officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Bessemer with Ervin Funeral Chapel of Anniston in charge. The body will be at the church four hours prior to services.

Mrs. Wells died July 29 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Herman and Mary Louise Wells of Birmingham; 16 grandchildren, and 70 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends of the family.

Mrs. Wells was a mother of the church and a minister. She taught school and owned a business.

Abrams

WOODLAND - Services for James Camp Abrams, 87, of Woodland will be 2 p.m. today at Shiloh Baptist Church with Revs. Ronnie Puckett and Tony Morris officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Abrams died Monday at Wedowee Hospital.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Julie and Randall Ussery of Roanoke; three sons and their wives, Jerry and Margaret Abrams of Woodland, Russell and Paula Abrams of Roanoke, and Roger and Dale Abrams of Newell; two sisters and their husbands, Nellie and Horace O’Kelley of Anniston, and Earnestine and John Cobb of Oxford; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Abrams, Jason Simpson, Damon Kabetzke, Lynn Coffee, Bobby Ezell and Thomas Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Mr. Abrams, a Clay County native, was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas. A World War II Army veteran, he received two Bronze Star Medals, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clois E. Abrams; and a sister, Evelyn Abrams.

Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made to Clay County Hospice, or Gideons International.

Austin

Services for Pearl Prater Austin, 79, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Revs. Brian Camp and Mike Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Austin died Monday at her home.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Earnest and Linda Prater, and Johnny and Susie Prater, all of Anniston; two brothers and their wives, Rev. Walker and Hazel Dean of Saks, and Homer and Eddie Dean of Branson, Mo.; five grandchildren, Wendy McGuffie, Scott Prater, Kevin Prater, Blake Prater and Billy Lynn Pressley; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Lynn Pressley, Gene Dean, Kevin Prater, Blake Prater, Keith Prater and Roger Prater.

Mrs. Austin, an Anniston native and lifelong resident, was a member of Westwood Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a choir member. She was employed at General Electric, House of Eyeglasses and Anniston Parks and Recreation. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Ernest Prater and J.D. Austin; her parents, S.H. and Susie Dean; and two sisters, Pauline Roach and Flora Prater.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Beacon Hospice.

Batchelder

GALT, Calif. - Services for Julia Chapman Batchelder, 64, of Galt, Calif., formerly of Oxford, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home in Oxford with Rev. Burgess Austin officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Batchelder died Thursday at her home.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Steven A. and Nina Parks of Galt; her mother, Lonnie Mae Chapman of Oxford; four sisters, Hester Sims and her husband, Junior, of Wedowee, Polly Davidson and her husband, Bud, and Frances Nelson and her husband, Eudean, all of Heflin, and Wanda Archuletta of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Batchelder had lived in California the past three years. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Batchelder; and her father, James Floyd Chapman.

Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made to Southside Baptist Church, or the American Cancer Society.

Hall

MACON, Ga. - Memorial services for Rev. John Rhea Hall, 71, of Macon, Ga. will be 1 p.m. EDT Thursday at Northminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Walton officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 EDT tonight at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Rev. Hall died Sunday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Kaye McAnnally Hall; three sons, Robert Anthony Hall II of Warner Robins, Ga., Joel Payton Hall and his wife, Kathy Todd, of Hoover, and Joshua C. Hughes of Savannah, Ga.; a daughter and her husband, Jonna Hall and Terry A. Wallace of Helena; a brother and his wife, Rev. James Payton and Fran Hall of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister and her husband, Martha "Marti" Hall and Otis "Pokey" Warren of Anniston; and five grandchildren, Logan Payton Hall, Joel Taylor Hall, Sydney Lauren Hall, Rachel Eleanor Wallace and John Clinton Wallace.

Rev. Hall, a Louisville, Ky. native, ministered at several churches in Alabama and middle Georgia throughout his career, including serving as associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church and minister of Church of the Covenant, which he built, in Anniston. He served on the Presbyterian Ministers Fund in Macon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Gray Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Talladega Home of Children, 905 Ashland Highway, Talladega, AL 35160, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 501 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210, or to Hospice of Central Georgia, 3780 Eisenhower Parkway, Macon, GA 31206.

Lackey

TALLADEGA - Services for Rudolph Lackey, 69, of Talladega will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Talladega Funeral Home with Jimmy Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Munford. The family will receive friends 5-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Lackey died Tuesday at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Lynn Lackey of Talladega; a son and his wife, Rick and Brenda Lackey of Lincoln; two sisters, Becky Isbell and her husband, Gus, of Oxford and Betty Lackey of Talladega; a brother and his wife, Jerry Lee and Nina Lackey of Munford; a stepson, Eric Paul Lackey of Talladega; and two grandchildren, Shannon Lackey and Jayme Lackey.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Lackey, Keith Lackey, Larry Elder, Leslie Horn, Kyle Horn and Wes Patterson.

Mr. Lackey, a Talladega County native and lifelong resident, was a member of the Church of Christ. He retired from Talladega Pattern.

Martin

TALLADEGA - Services for Jerry Allen Martin, 60, of Talladega will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Talladega Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Pettus officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin died Monday at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include three sisters, Sandra Herrington of Ashland, Mazie Kramer of Ocala, Fla. and Frances Fowler of Talladega; a brother, Steve Martin of Ocala; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Buddy Nelms of Ocala.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Harrington, Matt Hamlin, Ricky Hurst, Sammy Fowler and Shannon Lathem.

Mr. Martin, a Talladega County native and lifelong resident, was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. He retired as a hairdresser. He was preceded in death by five sisters, two brothers, his parents, Johnny and Dorothy Martin; his grandparents, John and Ada Sellers Martin, and Robert Lee Johnson and Daisy Burdette Johnson.

Rice

ALEXANDRIA - Graveside services for Telassar Rice, 89, of Alexandria, formerly of Sumiton, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper with Rev. Doug Tate officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora.

Mrs. Rice died Tuesday in Jacksonville.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Holaway of Alexandria; three sons, Ret. Army Col. Robert C. "Bobby"Rice and his wife, Linda, of Niceville, Fla., and Frank Lecil Rich and his wife, Mary, of Shelbyville, Ky. and Oren Leroy Rice of King George, Va.; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Rice.

Smith

OHATCHEE - Services for Brenda Gale Wilson Smith, 45, of Ohatchee will be announced by Gray Brown-Service Mortuary of Anniston.

Ms. Smith died Tuesday in Weaver.

Wells

Services for Sandra Gail Wells, 57, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Rev. Billy Mack Quick officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wells died Tuesday in Anniston.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Lewis Wells; three daughters, Betty Faye Webb and Amanda Lynn O’Dell, both of Anniston, and Debbie Louise Pittman of Oxford; a stepdaughter, Kay Nance of North Carolina; a stepson, Larry Dewayne Surrett of Cullman; her mother, Mildred Louise Johnston of Bynum; three sisters, Mary Sue Fleming, Susan Diane Bryant and Teresa Collen Gravitt, all of Anniston; two brothers, Kenneth Wayne Hayes of Anniston and David Ferron Smith of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Jessica Pittman, Christopher Webb, Terry O’Dell, Kenneth Pittman, Woodrow Pittman, Ashley O’Dell, Erica Pittman and Michael Webb; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hayes, Tim Holder, Larry Fleming, Steven Smith, William Spurlin, Wayne Deese and Daniel Lee Bryant.

Mrs. Wells, a lifelong Anniston resident, worked at the Salvation Army for 17 years.
