DOROTHY LOUISE ADAMS

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Dorothy Louise Adams, 82, of Talladega will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jacobs Chapel C.M.E. Church with Pastor W. Clinton Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Adams died Dec. 11 in Northport. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega, and was a member of Jacobs Chapel C.M.E. Church, where she served on the Stewardess Board and Kitchen Committee and was a member of Ethel Chapter No. 75 O.E.S. She was head cook for the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, Talladega Nursing Home and the Red Door Kitchen.

She is survived by five daughters, Jo Ann Barner-Nelson of Madison, Janet Smith of San Diego, Calif., Dr. Rita Simmons-Diggs of San Pedro, Calif., Gwendolyn Brown and Dr. Connie Diggs of Northport; one stepson, James Adams of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Irma Thornton of New York; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church one hour before the service.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

VELEREE McCALL HILL CHANDLER

SPRINGVILLE — Funeral service for Veleree McCall Hill Chandler, 84, of Springville will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Pell City. Burial will follow in Hepzibah Cemetery in Talladega.

Mrs. Chandler died Dec. 19.

She is survived by her husband, Monroe Chandler of Springville; two daughters, Dorothy Allen of Athens and Connie Hill of Cropwell; two sons, Robert Hill of West Linn, Ore., and Larry Hill of Springville; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

MINEKO HOWARD

PELL CITY — Mineko Howard, 30, of Pell City, died Dec. 19 at Medical Center East in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Rest in Peace of Talladega.

NANCY TAYLOR ROGERS LEE

CHILDERSBURG — Nancy Taylor Rogers Lee, 84, of Childersburg died Dec. 18 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center in Sylacauga.

Funeral arrangements will be announce by Childersburg Mortuary Service.

VON H. THORNTON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Von H. Thornton, 79, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chpael with the Rev. Buddy Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Thornton died Dec. 23 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Hayes Thornton and a daughter, Juanita Tarplay.

Mr. Thornton was a native of Coosa County, born there April 15, 1924. He was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene and was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by one daughter, Lorita Brannon, of Bon Air; one son, James Thornton, of Sylacauga; five brothers, Lyex Thornton, Brice Thornton, Donald Thornton, Brent Thornton and Clifford Thornton, all of Sylacauga; two sisters, Coleen Bailey and Odel Bailey, both of Sylacauga; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARY ELIZABETH TURNER

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Mary Elizabeth Turner, 52, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Holy Faith Temple Church with the Rev. Stanley Threatt and minister Billie Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Lilly Rhoden Cemetery in Childersburg.

Mrs. Turner died Dec. 19 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Childersburg.

Mrs. Turner is survived by one daughter, Kimberly D. Turner of Childersburg; eight sisters, Laverne Towns of Sylacauga; Lillian Turner, Patricia Arnold and Sandra Arnold, all of Albion Mich., Linda Arnold and Toni Atchison, both of Roswell, Ga., Linda Garrett of Talladega, and Treviana Funderberg of Childersburg; five brothers, Wayne Arnold of Albion, Mich., Kevin Funderberg of Childersburg, James Arnold, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Cornelius Funderberg, of Talladega and George Chatman; four grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 9 p.m. at Community Funeral Home.

Pallbearers and flower bearers will be family and friends.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARY LEE TURNER

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mary Lee Turner, 87, 354 Turner Road, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.L. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Kelly Springs Memorial Garden.

Mrs. Turner died Dec. 21 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cora Kirksey; her husband, Alvin Turner; two sons, Alvin Turner Jr. and Robert Lee Turner; one grandson, Robert Wayne Turner; four sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Turner was a lifelong resident of Talladega County and a member of the Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess until her death.

She is survived by two sons, Ronell Turner of Huntsville and Bruce Turner of Munford; two daughters, Willie Pearl Williams of Chicago, Ill., and Sandra Tuck of Talladega; five sisters, Gertrude Snow of Cleveland, Ohio, Corine Storey of Talladega, Fannie Archer of Oxford, Odessa Williams of Waukegan, Ill., and Rosie Lawler of Talladega; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends of the family will serve as flower bearers.

Westview Funeral Home will direct the service.

AARON BROWN JR.

ANNISTON — Aaron Brown Jr., 62, died Dec. 24 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Home.

GERALDINE C. BURGESS

MUNFORD — Funeral service for Geraldine C. Burgess, 76, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Foreman officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Burgess died Dec. 23 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Herman Burgess Sr. and her daughter, Ginger Lockwood Burgess.

Mrs. Burgess was a native and lifelong resident of Munford and Talladega County. She was a member of Munford Baptist Church and a former employee of Palm Beach and Young's Florist. She was employed by Martin's Department Store in Oxford.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Brasher, of Munford; two sons, Ben Burgess, of Munford and Regan Burgess, of Birmingham; one sister, Emily Haynes of Lincoln; and two grandchildren, Klay Brasher and Brandon Brasher.

Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Corby Tinney, Todd Tinney, Ted Lackey, Steve Mace, Jeff Haynes and Jeff Taylor.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

BILLY WAYNE BUTLER

SYLACAUGA — Billy Wayne Butler, 13, died Dec. 23 in Clay County.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel.

CATHERINE BYERS

RAGLAND — Catherine Byers, 64, 403 3rd Ave., died Dec. 24 at Medical Center East in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.
