LYLE BURTON AARHUS

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Lyle Burton Aarhus, 84, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Cosby and the Rev. Sonny Champion officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Aarhus died Dec. 1 at Coosa Valley BMC. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and was retired from Kimberly Clark. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Battle Star in the Aleutians Islands Campaign. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lars and Britha Aarhus; brothers, Robert and David G. Aarhus; and sister, Lillian Bussma.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Lavene Aarhus of Sylacauga; son, Anthony (Tony) Lars Aarhus and wife Cheresa of Sylacauga; brother, Olav Aarhus and wife Betty of Sherwood, North Dakota; sisters, Solveig Barnett of Childersburg, Junice Holte and husband Olaf of Newburg, Ore., and Evelyn McIntyre and husband Mac of Coos Bay, Ore.; grandchildren, Kevin E. Sargent and wife April, Craig Aarhus and Anthony Lyle Aarhus and wife Jeanna; and great-grandchild, Kylie Nicole Sargent.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The body may be viewed Thursday from 10:30 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Pallbearers will be Kevin E. Sargent, Anthony Lyle Aarhus, Alan Barnett, Don Pruitt, Greg Bassett and Richard Gill.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

EDWARD GROCE

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Edward Groce, 56, of 202 Curry Court, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Union Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Groce died Nov. 27 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Turner Groce; two sisters; and one brother. He was a member of Union Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughters, Cherlyn Hunley of Titusville, Fla., and Renita Ware of Anniston; sons, Edward Groce Jr. of Wichita, Kan., and Stephen Groce of Kentucky; his father, Thomas Groce of Munford; sisters, Gwenoble Parmer and Mary Joyce Rowland of Buffalo, N.Y., and Gary Ann Groce of Talladega; brother, Kimmeth Groce of Buffalo, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Groce, Michael Groce, Willie Turner, Daniel Thomas, Christopher Thomas and Demetrick Thomas.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

BERTHA MAE HAMILTON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Bertha Mae Hamilton, 89, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Danny Bynum and the Rev. William R. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Hamilton died Dec. 2 at Wilbanks Health Care Services in Sylacauga. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Floyd Thomas Hamilton, and a grandson, Rickey Edwards. She was a member of Mignon Baptist Church Merry Makers Band.

She is survived by sons, William Thomas (Buddy) Hamilton of Milton, Fla., Charles R. Hamilton of Marble Valley and Milton Hamilton of Climax, Ga.; daughters, Katherine Edwards of Fayetteville, Lorene Bess of Dadeville, Jean Poe of Birmingham, Mae Connelley of Weogufka and Judith Bush of Mt. Olive; brother, Clyde McNeal of Prattville; 31 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

NED JUNIOR McKINNEY

GOODWATER — Funeral service for Ned “Dee” Junior McKinney, 77, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Goodwater with the Rev. Marvin Ervin officiating. Burial will bein Macedonia Cemetery.

Mr. McKinney died Nov. 30 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center. He attended school in the Coosa County School System and was preceded in death by his parents, Ned McKinney Sr. and Sally Bradford McKinney of Coosa County.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Mae McKinney of Goodwater; two sons, Allen McKinney of Michigan and Calvin McKinney of Cottage Grove; and one sister, Yates Hezekiah of Connecticut, Ohio.

Visitation will be held Friday after noon at the funeral home in Sylacauga.

Madden’s Funeral Service will direct the service.

CHRISTIE BUTLER BUTTRAM

ROCKFORD — Funeral service for Christie Butler Buttram, 28, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church in Coosa County with William Casady officiating. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Coosa County.

Mrs. Buttram died Dec. 2 at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Buttram of Rockford; son, Travis Dean Shaw of Rockford; daughter, Heidi Nicole Owens of Sylacauga; son, Preston Lee Butler of Rockford; son, Zackery Lance Buttram of Rockford; daughter, Jocee Shiane Buttram of Rockford; father, Robert Butler of Sylacauga; mother, Lucretia Butler of Weogufka; stepfather, Robert Curtis of Weogufka; brother, Bobby Wayne Butler of Childersburg; sister, Cynthia Diane Butler of Sylacauga; and brother, Tommy Shane Butler of Weogufka.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WILLIS M. CARROLL

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Willis M. "Buddy" Carroll, 69, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Jerome Allen and the Rev. David Houston officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Carroll died Dec. 2. He was an electrician with Carroll Electric. He was a Baptist by faith, was loved by all who knew him and was preceded in death by his sister, Adele Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Tommie Jo Carroll of Pell City; daughter, Tina Bagby (John) of Italy; stepdaughter, Christine (Ronnie) Howell of Pell City; son, Mike Carroll of Lincoln; stepsons, Bobby (Dawn) Waldrop, Jimmy (Cindy) Waldrop and Jeremy Waldrop, all of Pell City; half-brother, Royce Carroll of Pell City; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alan Graham, Wade Graham, Brandon Ham, Shay Pierce, Larry Rich, Joey Bunt, Michael Bunt and Danny Howell.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

JOHN L. DUNSON

ANNISTON — John L. Dunson, 82, died Dec. 3 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel.

CHARLES WILLIAM MOORE

CLANTON — Funeral service for Charles William Moore, 73, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. J.D. Davis officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mr. Moore died Dec. 3 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. He was married for 28 years and was a member of the High Noon Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wesson Moore of Clanton; nieces, Carolyn Greger, Teresa Watkins and Pamela Wynn; nephews, Kenny Browning, Joey Justice, Keith Wesson, Chris Wesson and Dwayne Wesson; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

Pallbearers will be Art Greger, David Watkins, Kenny Browning, Chris Smith, Chad Browning and Matthew Wynn.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

FRANCES ELAINE OLIVER

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Frances Elaine Oliver, 66, was Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home South chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Oliver died Dec. 1 at her residence. She was a Baptist by faith.

She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Oliver Sr. of Sylacauga; son, Frank Allen Oliver Jr. of Sylacauga; daughters, Caprece Clinton and Lori Chandler of Sylacauga; grandchildren, Jamie McEwen of Sylacauga, Aaron Chandler of Sylacauga, Jamie Isabell of Sylacauga, Brandy Brasher of Chelsea, Tiara Chandler of Sylacauga and Leslie Oliver of Sylacauga; and three great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. William Friday, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home South Chapel directed the service.

KATHERINE H. ROBERTS

GROVES, Texas — Funeral service for Katherine H. Roberts, 87, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Talladega with the Rev. Robert Blackwell officiating.

Mrs. Roberts died Nov. 29 at Christus St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur. She was born June 30, 1916, in Birmingham, was a former resident of Chicago, Ill., and Talladega. She had lived in Groves for the past five years. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Talladega.

She was also a longtime member of the Central School PTA and also belonged to the local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a direct descendent of Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. She was a member of the Delta Omicron Sorority and a classical music DJ for a local radio station for a number of years. She received her degree from the Chicago Conservatory School of Music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Wells Hall and Katherine Burt Forney; her husband, Dr. Edward H. Roberts; and a granddaughter, Michelle Powell.

She is survived by her children, Kate Noble Roberts Powell of Virginia, Edward H. Roberts Jr. of Talladega, David Hall Roberts M.D. of Talladega, Jennifer Suzanne Roberts Fairchild of Groves, Texas, Jean Middleton Roberts Tate of Talladega and Duncan MacGlaughin Roberts of Tuscaloosa; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Katherine Roberts' Fund for Animals, P.O. Box 765, Groves, Texas, 77619 or to St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Talladega.

Broussard's Mortuary, Nederland, will direct the service.

IDA TRAYLOR

DADEVILLE — Funeral service for Ida Traylor, 100, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Dadeville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Traylor died Nov. 30 at Hamilton House Nursing Center in Columbus, Ga.

She is survived by one grandson, Charles Traylor of Sylacauga; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.
