CARPENTER, Dorothy Mae, 76, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Thursday, November 22, 2007, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial on Sunday November 25, 2007, with Reverend Randy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Carpenter was a dedicated member of the Baptist Church ministry. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Dale Carpenter; one brother, James Haggett; and her parents, Clecy and Edith Haggett. She is survived by her husband, Calvin C. Carpenter; one daughter, Christine (Scott) Easterling ; two sons, Wayne Woolsey and Timothy Carpenter; seven grandchildren; one brother, Frank (Vernell) Haggett; and one daughter-in-law, Linda Carpenter. Pallbearers will be Wayne Woolsey, Scott Easterling, Eric Carpenter, Brandon Easterling, Daniel Carpenter, and Jordan Easterling. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial on Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Nilawan Coyle
COYLE, Nilawan, 59, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, died peacefully at her home in Prattville, AL, on Saturday, February 9, 2008. A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., from Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Coyle was preceded in death by her father, Wade Coyle. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Oye Coyle, Peace and Amy Coyle; and numerous other family members residing in Thailand.

BROWN, Clarence Arnold, 75, a resident of Stoney Point, AL, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 13, 2005. Burial will follow in Pine Level Methodist Church Cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by one grandchild, Justin Brown. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Brown; one daughter and son-in-law, Nannette and Gene Klein; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kim Brown, all of Deatsville, AL; three grandchildren, Tisha Klein, Josh Klein, and Tanner Brown; five great-grandchildren, Karly Dulaney, Lauryn Dulaney, Brandon Klein, Derik Klein, and Austin Bass; one sister, Mae Cole, Birmingham, AL; and two brothers, Earl Brown, Montgomery, AL, and Bob (Judy) Brown, Wetumpka, AL. Cannon, Frances Kathleen, 88, a resident of Marbury, AL, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 13, 2004, at a Montgomery hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend W. L. Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial with Prattville Memorial directing. Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by her husband Grady E. (Red) Cannon; two brothers, Edward Meeker and Grover (Buzz) Meeker Jr. She is survived by her beloved two daughters, Mary Ruth (Harold) Simpson of Marbury, AL and Joann (Robert) Cobb of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Dorothy (Bob) Baggett of Marbury, AL; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Darrell Sambor, Hal Simpson, Arland Hilyer, Phil Riley, Adam Sambor, and Homer Ray Nelson. COOK, Mary Palley, 78, a native of Prattville, AL, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 30, 2005. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., from Prattville Memory Gardens, with Reverend Chip Smith and Reverend Mike Grindle officiating, Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Cook is survived by her beloved spouse of 60 years, William F. Cook; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Charley Hester, all of Prattville, AL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Simon and Vicki Cook, Germany, Michael and Sue Cook, Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Jack Bartley
BARTLEY, Jack Weston, (USAF, OSI-SA, Ret’d), 72, a native of Pike County, KY, and current resident of Millbrook, AL, died peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2006, at a Montgomery hospital. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2006, with full military honors, at twelve noon, EST, from Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Seale, AL, with Pastor Jim Whorton officiating. Mr. Bartley is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ruby Coleman Bartley, Millbrook, AL; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Murray, Summerville, SC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Ruth Bartley, Millbrook, AL, Kevin and Jamie Bartley, Edmond, OK; five granddaughters, Jillian Bartley, Heather Murray, Erin Murray, Kelsey Bartley and Danielle Bartley; and one great grandson, Logan Murray. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
James Aubrey Alford
James Aubrey Alford, age 93, a resident of Luverne, died on Friday, December 28, 2007.
Graveside services were held at the Rutledge Cemetery, Rutledge, on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Leverette officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.
The family received friends at the Floyd's Residence, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jim Thompson, Jeffrey Alford, Justin Hulsey, and friends Ed Beasley, William Baker, and Huriah Stroud.
Mr. Alford was born on August 10, 1914, in Crenshaw County and with the exception from 1941 to 1945, he was a life-long resident of Luverne. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 48 years, Cleone Rhodes Alford, his brothers; Leroy Alford and Climmie C. Alford and his parents E.A. and Laura Ivey Alford. He is survived by his three children, Dr. Pat A. (Earl) Floyd-Dees of Luverne, James W. (Ruby) Alford of Headland, and Dr. Jean A. Thompson of Greenville.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, James S. (Nancy) Thompson of Woodstock, Ga., Vickie Alford (Justin) Hulsey of Carrollton, Ga. Courtney Floyd (Matt) Zinke of Shalimar, Fla., and Jeffrey W. (Chasity) Alford of Headland.
He has seven great-grandchildren; Taylor Michelle Thompson and Amanda Claire Thompson of Woodstock, Ga., Zachary Alford Zinke, Matthew Colton Zinke, David Reed Zinke of Shalimar, Fla., Jacob Landon Hulsey and Jalynn Hulsey of Carrollton, Ga.
In addition, he is survived by an Aunt Edna Alford Bray of Hendersonville, Tenn., a nephew, Charles (Fran) Alford and his second wife Madeline C. Alford of Luverne.
Mr. Alford served as Crenshaw County Commissioner of Districts Three and Five for a total of 22 years, was a cattle farmer and businessman for 55 years. He was a member of the Methodist church for 81 years; during this time he served in every position, including song leader and chair of the board of trustees, for a lay person; he was a member of the Crenshaw County Shrine Club for 61 years serving as president for two terms and was co-founder of the Shriner's Peanut Boil to raise funds for the Shrine Club's Cripple Children's Program. Since 1942 he was a member of the Crenshaw County Cattleman's Association and served as president for two terms; he also served as a director of the Luverne Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Crenshaw County Hog Producers Association.

COMPTON, Jean, 76, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2005, at a Montgomery hospital. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and David Singleton, Wetumpka, AL; one grandchild; and one brother, Ernest McFarling, TN.

CAIN, Vera Maline, 98, a native of Bessemer, AL, and resident of Prattville, AL for thirty-three years, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2007, at a local health care facility. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2007, at 2:30 p.m., from Cedar Hill Cemetery in Bessemer, AL, with ________________ officiating. Mrs. Cain was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Ralph Cain; her parents, Eugene and Mary Trussel, and a special aunt and uncle, Bessie and Robert Clay Jones. Survivors include cousins, Mary Osie Jones, Prattville, AL; Bobbie McFall, Jack Cross, and Andy Cross, all of Bessemer, AL; nephews, Robert C. Jones, Crestview, FL, Daniel Zach David, Prattville, AL, and David Z. Jones, ver, Lenuard Jacobs, Jaclyn Jacobs, Joshua Brasel, Abbagail Brasel, Jessica Brasel, and Stephen Brasel; and one great-granddaughter, Ella June McKeever; one brother, John (Jean) Jennings, Griswold, IA, and one sister, Amy Winger, Dodge City, KS. Avis Berry
BERRY, Avis Tatum, 93, a resident of Deatsville, AL, died peacefully at home, on Friday, January 11, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., from the Stoney Point Church of Christ, with Minister Terry Claunch and Minister Lanier Tatum officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Berry was a beloved wife, mother, and devoted grandmother and a long-time member of Stoney Point Church of Christ. She was the last survivor of eight children. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Gordon Hill Berry, Sr.; three sons, Gordon Hill Berry, Jr., John Thomas Berry, and Robert Edward Berry; one daughter, Addie Berry Welch; two sons-in-law, John Lewis Henderson and Clyde Coleman Welch. She is survived by four daughters, Betty (Karl) Tule, Rosie (Charles) Price, Linda Henderson, and Jo Davis; two sons, James (Jean) Berry and Ronald Berry, Sr.; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Berry; four sisters-in-law, Beatrice Tatum, Elise Tatum, Omega Tatum, and Margaret Tatum. Pallbearers will be Ronald Berry, Sr., Gordon Berry, III, Wesley Berry, Terrell Elliott, Gary Ralph, Jim Fisher, Todd Baker, and Stacey Seamon, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. COLON, Robert Soto, 64, a native of Puerto Rico and long-time resident of Prattville, AL, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 4, 2008, while visiting his family in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Arecibo Memorial Funeral Home in Arecibo, P.R. Burial followed in the Nuevo Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Colon was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Colon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Eleanor Colon, Prattville, AL; five sons, Robert Scott Colon, Bronx, NY, Desmond (Alicja) Colon, Guyton, GA, Blake Colon, Rincon, GA, Andrew (Leigh Anne) Freeman, Seale, AL, and Anthony Freeman, Birmingham, AL; two grandchildren; his mother, Juanita Soto Colon, Arecibo, P.R.; three sisters, Judy Colon, NYC, NY, Blanca (Paco) Velez, Lares, P.R., and Carmen Colon, Arecibo, P.R.; two brothers, Luis Colon, Arecibo, P.R., and Hector (Carmen) Colon, Long Island, NY; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
