Cain, Jack Reid, age 68, of Houston, TX, died Monday, June 21, 1999 at his residence in Houston, TX. (SELMA SERVICES) will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 1999 at the Christ the King Episcopal Church. Officiating: Right Rev. Chuck Jones with burial at New Live Oak Cemetery. (HOUSTON SERVICES) Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 1999 at the 2nd Baptist Church, 6400 Noodway Dr., Houston, TX. Mr. Cain attended the University of Alabama. He is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and from the Birmingham School of Law. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include: wife, Mary Nan Reeves Cain of Houston, TX; daughter, Karen Cain Miller of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; son, Reid Stephen Cain of Selma; four grandchildren, Gregory Miller, Michell Rene Miller, Courtney Rives Cain and Krister Taylor Cain. Measel, Mr. Marshall Crenshaw (MARTY), age 74, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999. He was born in Dermott, Arkansas and grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Mr. Measel was employed as an Engineer with Amoco Oil Company for 32 years. Mr. Measel was an active member and teacher of the Bible at both Green Valley Baptist and Shades Crest Baptist . He was involved in Meals on Wheels, Soup Kitchen, and the Food Pantry at Green Valley Baptist Church. Memorials may be given to Green Valley Baptist Church Building Fund. Survivors include: wife, Susan Trimble Measel; sons, John Marshall Measel, Charles Thomas Measel, Albert Anderson Measel; daughter-in-law, Pamela McCullar Measel; g rand sons, Matthew Thomas Measel, Adam James Measel; brother, Harold Measel. Atkins, Allen Page, age 58, died June 23, 1999 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on October 31, 1940 in Birmingham, Ala. He graduated from Shades Valley High School and received his degree in Business and Commerce from the University of Alabama in 1964 where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and was a devoted Alabama fan. Mr. Atkins served as an officer in the U. S. Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. He embarked on a career in the commercial construction business and owned his own business when he retired in 1998. Mr. Atkins was a dedicated member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. George W.P. Atkins, Sr. Siblings and spouses, George and Martha Atkins of Atlanta, Alice and Charles Mercer of Knoxville, Tenn., Susan and David Pruet of Daphne, Ala. and several nieces and nephews. A service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's on the Highlands Episcopal Church and the family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until service time at the church. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Mary's on the Highlands Episcopal Church, 1910 12th Ave. So., Birmingham, AL 35205. Pitts, Carrie Nelson Andrews, age 69, of Trussville, died June 25, 1999. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Trussville; former member of the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be Monday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Roebuck East with burial in Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer. Rev. James Long officiating. Argo, Mr. Clarence Matthew, age 72, of Westover, died on Saturday, June 26, 1999. He was a retired postal worker and a veteran. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Argo; son, Gary Argo; daughters, Delores Rowe, Rhonda Helbing, and Karen Kennedy, all of Birmingham; brothers, Donald Argo and Grady Argo; grandchildren, Katrina Pilgrim, Steve Rowe, Mariah Argo, and great-grandchild, Chase Pilgrim. Busby, Arlie W., age 87, of Gardendale, died June 27, 1999. He was a salesman with Blacks Department Store; member of Gardendale First Baptist Church and McCarty Masonic Lodge. Franke, J. Paul, age 65, died June 28, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lester; three daughters, Carole Demuth and Kim Lepley of Birmingham, and Paula Mears of Aubrey, Texas. He is also survived by stepsons, Mark Lester and Mitchell Lester and stepdaughter, Debbie Lester, all of Birmingham; eleven grandchildren; and a sister, Bettye King of Rockville, MD. Mr. Franke was professor emeritus of Philosophy at Birmingham-Southern College, having taught there for 28 years, after having taught previously at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He was educated in the public schools of Birmingham, received a B.A. degree from Birmingham-Southern College, and S.T.B. degree from Boston University, and a Ph.D. degree from Vanderbilt University. From his paternal grandmother, he is descended from pioneer Jefferson and Shelby County families, Watkins, Lees, Actons, Byars, and Baileys. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 30, 1999, 5:00 p.m. with a memorial service 6:00 p.m. at Johns-Ridout's Southside Chapel. Memorials to Birmingham-Southern College, Leukemia Society of America, or American Cancer Society. Johns-Ridout's Funeral Parlor will be directing.
