Archie Thorpe officiating. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Monday at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home. Survivors: wife, Floy (Flo) Adkins; sons, Richard Lawrence and his wife, Martha; Roy and his wife, Becky, all of Birmingham, Don and his wife, Darlene of Gardendale; daughter, Myrna Smith and her husband, Bob of Adamsville; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, Jim Adkins of Decatur. Visitation, Tuesday, June 29 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Service of Resurrection: Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at 11:00 a.m., First United Methodist Church, Sylacauga, AL, Rev. Bill Brown and Rev. Hughey Reynolds, officiating. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Sylacauga, AL. She was an active supporter of the B.B. Comer Memorial Library Foundation, and other civic organizations. Survivors include: husband, Harry I. Brown, Sr., Sylacauga, AL; son, Harry I. Brown, Jr., Sylacauga, AL; son, John Marshall Brown, son, Sylacauga, AL; grandson, Harry I. Brown, III; granddaughter, Catherine Susan Brown; grandson, James Adam Brown; brother, Dr. Wood Whetstone, Jackson, TN; and sister, Nell Savis, Sylacauga, AL. Family will receive flowers or suggest contributions to the B.B. Comer Memorial Library Foundation, 314 N Broadway. Howard, Susan, age 52 of Moody died on June 27, 1999. Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 1999 at Kilgroe Chapel with burial in Cedar Grove. Barnett, Mr. Simmy, 74, of Pinson died June 14, 1999. Funeral service will be Friday, June 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout's Roebuck East Chapel, Dr. Gary Fisher officiating. Burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pinson, and was a Naval Veteran of W.W. II and the Korean War. He was retired from CSX (L&N;) Railroad. Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Kathryn (James W.) Johnson, Pinson; JoAnne (Forrest) Odom, Pinson; four grand children: James Alan Johnson, Michael Taylor Johnson, Jessica Anne Odom, Robert Lewis Odom; two brothers, Walter Arwine Barnett, Pinson, Halbert W. Barnett, College Park, GA; sisters, Mary Helen Burgin, Tuscaloosa; Mildred B. Moore, Wyoming; numerous nieces and nephews. Ridout's Roebuck East Chapel.

Lewis, Catherine, age 62, of Bessemer, died June 12, 1999. She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Bessemer. Funeral services will be Friday, June 18, at Noon at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Bessemer with burial in Highland Cemetery. Rev. William H. Walker officiating. Survivors: daughter, Joni L. Jackson (Roderick); mother, Amzlee Lewis; sisters, Dorothy L. Burpo and Betty J. Flanigan (Harvey); grandchild, Nicholas D. Jack son; aunt, Pinkie Yarbrough; nine nieces and four nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. R. L. Lumzy directing.

Marks, Alexander, age 91, Bessemer, AL, died October 29, 1999. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Rev. David Knight, officiating.

Edgil, Laverne "Brucie", age 76, of Crumly Chapel, died June 16, 1999. Lifetime member of Crumly Chapel United Methodist Church. Graveside at Crumly Chapel Cemetery will be Thursday at 11:00. Rev. David Carboni officiating. Survivors: husband, L. J. Edgil of Crumly Chapel; son, Kerry Edgil of Quincy Fla.; daughter, Joe Ann Edgil of Crumly Chapel; grandchildren, Alicia, Richard, Cameron, and Tracy; great grandchildren, Sierra and Dade; brother, Don H. Hughes, Tommie E., age 81, of Luverne, AL, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000. She belongs to the Grace Baptist Temple Home, Luverne, AL, volunteer at the V.A. Hospital for 25 years and was connected with the Red Cross. Survivors: one daughter, Shirley Griffin; son, William Patrick Hughes; three sisters, one brother, and five grandchildren. Graveside service will be held on Friday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m., at the Elliottsville Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Rev. Graham Gerald, officiating. Turner Funeral Home, Luverne, AL, directing.

Gay, Jimmy A., age 60, of Birmingham, AL, died Saturday, June 19, 1999. He was past president of Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors. he was owner of his surveying business for 40 years. Mr. Gas was also past president of the Hoover Athletic Association and past president of Homewood Lions Club. His survivors include his wife, Lucretia "Cricket" Gay; three sons, Don Strength, Jr. and wife, Dina of Roanoke, AL, Jon P. Strength and wife Sandra L. of Hoover, and Ben Strength and wife Angie of Hoover; seven grandchildren; four brothers: John Gay of Clanton, Thomas Gay of Prattville, Steve Gay of Clanton, and Bill Gay of Jemison; two sisters: Bobbie Gorman of Nashville, TN, and Anita Muller of Hoover. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Bluff Park Methodist Church with burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Southern Heritage Funeral Home is directing.
