ALICE SUE JACKSON

SYCAMORE — Funeral service for Alice Sue Jackson, 53, of Sycamore will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Home Baptist Church in Sycamore with the Rev. Stanley Threatt. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Jackson died Oct. 8 at her residence.

She is survived by special friend, Willie Bledsoe of Sycamore; one daughter, Eula Jackson of Sycamore; two sons, Willie Anthony Jackson of Sylacauga and Martin Jackson of Sycamore; mother, Essie Jackson of Sycamore; father, Tony Jackson of Sycamore; five sisters, JoAnn Funderburg, Joyce Cook, Janice Jackson, Rosetta Jackson and Jackie Jackson of Sylacauga; four brothers, Charles Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., Terry Jackson of Sycamore, William Jackson of Talladega and Johnny Jackson of Sylacauga; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Brothers and nephews will be pallbearers.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

DOUGLAS McKENZIE JR.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Douglas "Brut" McKenzie Jr., 76, of Sylacauga will be Monday at 1 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Sylacauga with the Rev. Eddie King officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Hanover.

Mr. McKenzie died Oct. 8 at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae; his parents, Douglas and Easter McKenzie; a son, Douglas McKenzie III; and a sister, Mary Alice Stallworth. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, and was employed by Avondale Mills for more than 47 years. His last position at the Eva Jane plant was as a computer control specialist. He was also employed by the Talladega Board of Education as a bus driver for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie Bonner of Childersburg; six sons, Kenneth Neal, Edward Wayne, Terry Lewis and Tony Earl of Sylacauga, Reginald Lonell of Huntsville and Derrick Duran of Birmingham; two sisters, Nora Pearl Williams and Ethel Mae Junious; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Madden's Funeral Service will direct the service.

DONLEY DENNIS SWAIN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Donley Dennis Swain will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Porter F. Wheeler Jr., the Rev. W.J. Posey, the Rev. Matthew Leonard, the Rev. Bruce Alford and moderator Stafford Rowser officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Swain died Oct. 9 at his residence. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and was retired after 34 years with CSX Transportation Railroad. He was a member of the Golden Key Club and a native of Talladega County.

He is survived by his wife, Ada Dean Swain of Sylacauga; three daughters, Donna Strown of Talladega, Deborah S. Beavers and Stephanie Fields of Pell City; six sons, Craig Swain and Broderick Swain of Pell City, Anthony Swain of Sylacauga, Malcolm E. Swain of White Pine, Tenn., Robert Swain of Jacksonville and Sherman R. Swain of Stone Mountain, Ga.; four sisters, Mary Kelby of Talladega, Nevelyn Grier and Marion Kelby of Kansas City, Mo., and Ella Watson of Marietta, Ga.; three brothers Lamar Swain of Talladega, Algie Swain Jr. of Pell City and Lochinvar Swain of Anniston; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends between 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Madden's Funeral Service will direct the service.

GLADYS COOK DOBBS

BIRMINGHAM — Funeral service for Gladys Cook Dobbs, 90, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with the Rev. Amy Parsons Vaughn and the Rev. Keith Pugh Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Dobbs died Oct. 10. She was a member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church and spent most of her life in Birmingham. She retired after serving 25 years as secretary for Vine Street Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Wilson Dobbs, and brothers, Otis and J.T. Cook.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Faye Carter and husband Ray of Huntsville and Judy Frazer and husband Charles of Sylacauga; one sister, Margaret Wade of Sylacauga; one sister-in-law, Emily Cook of Kissimmee, Fla.; six grandchildren, Cynthia Carter Campbell, Camilla Parsons Shelton, Amy Parsons Vaughn, Kathy Frazer Bozeman, Chuck Frazer and Jim Parsons; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Sylacauga or to Holmes Street United Methodist Church of Huntsville.

Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary Elmwood Chapel will direct the service.

TALLADEGA — Janie Lindsey, 80, of Talladega died Oct. 11 at Talladega Health Care Center Nursing.

Funeral arraignments will be announced by Sims Funeral Home in Talladega.

JERRY WADE PRICE

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Jerry Wade Price will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga with Dr. Todd Henderson and the Rev. Wayne Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview Cemetery in Alexander City.

Mr. Price died Oct. 10 at his residence in Sylacauga after a lengthy illness. He was a 1963 graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. in textile management, and was employed in the industrial division of West Point Pepperell in West Point, Ga. He held manufacturing management positions at Lanett and Shawmunt Industrial Mills, and accepted a sales position in the division's Atlanta, Ga., office in 1978.

A member of Ray Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Ga., he was a member of the Atlanta Textile Club. He returned to the Valley, Ala., area in 1990 as a sales representative for Wellington Sears Company and continued in that position after the sale of the company to Johnston Industries until 2001.

He lived in Pine Mountain, Ga., from 1991, 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pine Mountain and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was active in the building of two mission churches in Harris County.

He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Harris County Habitat for Humanity and was actively involved in the planning and building of several homes. He enjoyed his gardening and greenhouse, and shared vegetables and plants with friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Price.

Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Patricia Gallops Price of Sylacauga; two sons, Wade Price of Alexander City and Glen Price of Newnan, Ga.; one daughter, Lisa Wilkins of Sylacauga; mother, Vera Price of Alexander City; two sisters, Janet Spann of Alexander City and Glenda Memory of Montgomery, four grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Harris County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1522 Pine Mountain, Ga., 31822 or to the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

BRENDA GAIL ROUSE ROBERSON

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Brenda Gail Rouse Roberson, 49, of Anniston will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Anniston with Dr. J. E. Merriweather officiating. Burial will follow in Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston.

Mrs. Roberson died Oct. 8 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Eugene and Effie McLaughlin Rouse. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Anniston. She retired from Beckwood Manor Nursing Home.

She is survived by her husband, Patrick Roberson of Anniston; one daughter, Sonya Madden of Talladega; four sisters, Marion Rouse of Newnan, Ga., Charlotte Rouse of Severn, Md., Cynthia Rouse and Janet Rouse of Anniston; one brother, Calvin Rouse of Anniston; and two grandchildren.

The Cobb Avenue High School Class of 1972 will be pallbearers

Funeral service will be directed by Anniston Funeral Service.

SAM WOODRUFF

JACKSONVILLE — Sam Woodruff, 96, of Jacksonville died Oct. 10 at Jacksonville Health and Rehab Nursing Home in Jacksonville.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

PHYLLIS CALDWELL MILKINS

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Phyllis Caldwell Milkins, 67, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Childersburg First Baptist Church with Dr. John Beck officiating. Burial will be in Childersburg Cemetery.

Mrs. Milkins died Oct. 18. She was a native of Childersburg and was court magistrate for the city of Childersburg.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Sklar and husband Michael of Childersburg; sons, Kevin Kallenbach and Kenneth Kallenbach of Childersburg; her mother, Clarice Caldwell of Childersburg; sister, Carolyn Ray and husband Jack of Cullman; and grandchildren, David Tier, Ian Sklar, Cassidy Sklar, Jillian Kallenbach and Rumi Kallenbach.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

BESSIE BAILEY

SYLACAUGA — Bessie Bailey, 94, died Oct. 20 at Coosa Valley Baptist Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

BUFORD T. BRASHER

VANDIVER — Funeral service for Buford T. Brasher, 73, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds. Burial will be in Union Hill Freewill Cemetery.

Mr. Brasher died Oct. 18. He was employed by Hayes/Pempco for 41 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lampkin and Lourilla Brasher, one sister and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Marie Brasher; daughters, Janet Howard and Patti Brasher; son, David Brasher; brothers, Raymond and Gene Brasher; and two grandchildren.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

VIRGIL CALHOUN

TALLADEGA — Virgil Calhoun, 65, of 11775 Plant Road, died Oct. 18 at Brookwood Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

ANNISTON — Arthur Couch, 83, died Oct. 18 at Jackson Nursing Home.

CARROLLTON, Ga. — Mary Ann Dothard, 41, died Oct. 20 at Peidmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
