Couch, Mr. Carlton Dempsey, age 73, of Saline, Mich., died June 12, 1999. He was born August 10, 1925. He was in the U. S. Navy Recruiting, also a Chief in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Military Advisory Group in the Embassy in Rome, Italy, Baghdad, Iraq, Rabat, Morocco. He was a Field Secretary for Civitan International for 5 years, owned and operated a Motel in Loveland, Colorado for 14 years. For the past 8 years, he was an antique dealer. He worked with Elizabeth May with the Cerebral Palsy Telethon. He was the nominee for Man of the Year 1964-1965. His Navy Recruiting of Birmingham, Alabama won the Governor's Trophy for Veteran's Day Parade for the Float. Worked with Boy Scout's of America and the Soap Box Derby. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and now he has gone to be with his Savior and Lord. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Roebuck East Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Rev. Steve Parr and Rev. Gary Fisher officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Survivors: son, Mr. Marcus A. Shelley of Grosse Point Park, Mich.; daughters, Mrs. Carole Couch Moormann of Birmingham and Mrs. Marian L. Grabbe of San Francisco, Calif.; preceded in death by parents, Luther Frederick Couch and Vera Lois Couch. Other survivors include: brother, Mr. Uhland F. Beard, James A., age 83, of Birmingham, died June 14, 1999. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gardendale. He was a veteran of Army 4th Division in World War II. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #836. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 16, at 10:00 a.m. from Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Valhalla Cemetery. Rev. Brown, Mrs. Lola M., passed away at Medical Center Blount in Oneonta, AL on June 9, 1999. Born in Harrelson County, Georgia. Mrs. Brown resided in Alabama for most of her life, living in Trussville for the last 40 years. The daughter of Mattie Lou and James Arthur Moore of Altoona, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, Dewey Allen Brown, and her son, Jerry Earl Hopson. Mrs. Brown was active in the First Baptist Church in Oneonta and served as Director of the Community Center there for a number of years. She was later a dental assistant in Leeds until her retirement in 1980. Mrs. Brown is survived by one sister, Grace Brothers of Altoona and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, 1999 from Ridout's Roebuck East Chapel in Trussville. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
